Eisenhower Auditorium was once again rocked by the refreshing and exhilarating performance of hip hop dance by the Compagnie Kafig performers. There was two pieces to the performance that night; Correria and Agwa, both choreographed by the troupe’s artistic director Mourad Merzouki. The troupe is acknowledged for their thrilling combination of hip hop, capoeira, samba, electronic music and bossa nova integrated in their dance routines with the addition of their finest acrobatic skills as publicized by the Carolina Performing Arts in their websites. Compagnie Kafig proved that the review is absolutely true with their astounding performance that night.
Ask any Step Up movies’ fan, the chance of seeing hip hop dances performed on stage in front of their eyes is definitely in their wish list and so do I. The two are so heterogeneous in their make-up that one would not think of them as having similarities. The truth, however, is that all dance forms are linked in some way or another; they all strengthen and sharpen each other. In the video we see where Chris Garcia created a piece that not only captured my attention fully but also showed me a combination of different cultural practices. The song lyrics are a combination of the Caribbean and Indian dialect along with a feet moving, finger snapping, and hip swaying beats that make the entire piece enjoyable from start to finish. In the video we also see that the wardrobe of the dancers were their traditional Indian Sari and that the dance moves were a combination of the Caribbean Soca and the Indian style of dance.

Charisma and positive energy of actors peaked in final scene; consequently, the dance in the rain is the most memorable moment due to used movie techniques, soundtracks and dancing, and a positive effect on the audience. Dance is a part of every culture. Whether it is the fire dances of the native Hawaiians, or the Tango from Spain, dance is a part of every culture. This event is not an event I would usually attend. I am not into art of any kind except music. At first, there were two reasons I went to this performance.
They hit each movement in sync with the music and with each other, which mirrors the professional and put-together environment of the business meeting. Some of the most notable are “Cloud” Campos and Stephen “tWitch” Boss, both recognized for freestyling; “Sweepy,” an innovator of his own dance style; and Allison Holker, known for her athleticism. Although he is not a dancer, the famous beatboxer “KRNFX” is featured and adds an unexpected twist to the flow of the routine. The piece was choreographed by Jamal Sims and Christopher Scott, and the entire program was directed by Jon Chu (Surface).
