Fifth grade started it all, the pain the lied beneath my journal was more than descriptive words it was my story. At the age of ten, my uncle was addicted my body type he used to just stared at my figure, and when I would catch him staring he would pretend to not care. When I turned twelve he showed my porn for the first time, that was the first time I wrote about something so detail it made me cry. “A piece of me wanted to sink into the floor he was stroking my hands, my heart couldn’t take no more.” He asked me one question that is piercing in my heart to this day, “do you like what you see” I promise myself to obey. I listen to his every command and went to my room I fell asleep listening to his secular music he was giving my heart the blues. …show more content…
A poem had no restriction, a poem just had feeling and desires base on the reader. Poetry left the person with one thought it was how you perceive it. I love it. Every waking moment I listen to Maya Angelou, I met her and she told her life story and it blew me away, she was such a phenomenal person. Even though she was my poetry hero, my oldest aunt set the foundation. My aunt actually publish her own book of poetry, it wasn’t as successful as she hopes but it was amazing to me. One day I was at her house writing and she asks me could she read it, I title the poem, Hurt. “Something is dead inside. It’s crawling inside of me, its curling up to die. It sits in the corner of the soul, this dark place never wanting to let go of the hurt inside. This hurt is producing growth, rather I run and hide or produce enough courage to rise up in the die. This hurt inside of my could never lie. It could only dream of one becoming something unfamiliar transforming into the peace that would be familiar, but when I finally open up my mouth to speak that hurt began to speak. I am hurting inside and painting a happy face on the outside, blending in with the world so they could not take a peek at this hurtful heart that lies beneath me.” I was thirteen when I wrote hurt, the first time I made my aunt look at me different, the first time I made her cry. She took interest in the fact that even though I wasn’t as talkative and sociable was the rest of my siblings I was something special. She encouraged me to keep writing in a sense that pulled your audience toward you, I went to my first poetry lounge that week. It was amazing people actually reading what they wrote, not being afraid of what the outcome they was just up there speaking of their piece. I spoke slang, standard English wasn’t popular where I came from it was broken grammar. I came from a family where the eleventh grade was the highest school level our parents attended, so speaking was
Poetry, is a literal writing where any human being can express themselves, feelings, or anything they desire. Some of them even write poems that touches us so much that we could almost feel and know what their going through. Audre Lorde, a professional and amazing writer, was a great example of that. She wrote about her experiences with cancer, black issues, and how attacks on being a lesbian was a black issue. There were reasons for that.
Poetry is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities; it is solely used to evoke emotive feelings in the reader in which to convey a message or story. This form of literature has a long history dating back thousands of years and is considered a literacy art form as it uses forms and conventions to evoke differentiating interpretations of words, though the use of poetic devices. Devices such as assonance, figurative language, alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhythm are sometimes used to achieve a musical and memorable aspect to the poem. Poems are usually written based on the past experiences of the poet and are greatly influenced by the writer’s morals values and beliefs. Poetry regularly demonstrates and emphasises on the
In today’s modern view, poetry has become more than just paragraphs that rhyme at the end of each sentence. If the reader has an open mind and the ability to read in between the lines, they discover more than they have bargained for. Some poems might have stories of suffering or abuse, while others contain happy times and great joy. Regardless of what the poems contains, all poems display an expression. That very moment when the writer begins his mental journey with that pen and paper is where all feelings are let out. As poetry is continues to be written, the reader begins to see patterns within each poem. On the other hand, poems have nothing at all in common with one another. A good example of this is in two poems by a famous writer by the name of Langston Hughes. A well-known writer that still gets credit today for pomes like “ Theme for English B” and “Let American be American Again.”
Empathy is one major reason. In this current day and age, it seems more and more like we are unable to feel more for the plights and experiences others go through. Poetry itself is an expression of experiences that occur in all the different parts of the human experience and one could learn much from the experiences written from someone who different from them. The poems written during the Harlem Renaissance articulates the perspectives and feelings that African Americans were experiencing during that time and that we are still seeing some of today. One could read poems from these times and really consider what the author is trying to say and could possibly find themselves a bit empathetic towards
In this chapter 2 of Knox and Schacht the authors explain the way to conceptualize love as well as all the aspects that are incorporated into love. The ways in which people view romantic and realistic love and how here in America we look at romantic love in a sort of fairy tale way. The authors explain the different styles of love that people can be categorized under in different relationships. Knox and Schacht take a look at arranged marriages in other countries and how love is intended to come after you are married and not before Knox and Schacht 2016, pg. 37-45). If relationships are focused on sexual attraction it takes away from simply being friends with a person which can also lead us to not actually seeing a person for who they really
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it- self has been experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend’s mom. What is love? A choice that people make by putting their partner’s wishes, desires and needs above everything else. What is love? The act of forgiveness, the infatuation with someone, the communication between two people. What is love? A friendship that turned into a lifelong commitment, that special someone who has vowed to spend the rest of their lives to honor and protect, to love each other “till death do you part.” When in love nothing else in the world matters. According to the online Encarta Dictionary love is the passionate feeling of romantic and sexual desire and longing for somebody. Poets and philosophers may never know what love really is, and we may never truly understand the question what is love.
A famous poet once said, " I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of beauty." That famous poet was known as Edgar Allan Poe and he is seen as one of the most significant writers from the romanticism era. If you think about it, Poe was right. Poetry is a creation of beauty that one reads with the heart instead of their eyes. It allows you to express yourself and inspire others. poetry is everywhere, It’s the lyrics on the radio and the plot to your favorite movie. If you have never written a poem before, then you have not lived the life from a true literary perspective. Perhaps you just don 't understand the values of writing or maybe you aren 't able to express your thoughts into words, so I 'm going to show you how you can overcome these obstacles.
In conclusion, I feel poets mainly write poems to express feelings, thoughts, and messages to the world. It’s an easy approach for them to use this writing technique as a way to articulate different aspects which could be improved in this world. I think what attracts people to poetry is writing which relates to each person in their everyday life no matter how it could be portrayed by. For some people poetry could be a relaxing thing or it could be something which cheers someone up, but people look to poetry to get a deeper thinking in life rather than a simpler thinking. This is clearly evident through authors, William Wordsworth and William Blake, and their poems “The World is too Much with Us” and “The Tyger.” Both poems related to one another one way or another, and they depicted different messages and themes which do relate to real life situations.
There are four types of love in this world, philia, eros, agape, and storge. Philia is the love of friends. Eros is romantic love. Agape is unconditional love. And storge is the love of family. In the four stories “A Secret for Two”, “The Gift of the Magi”, “Thank You M’am”, and “Too Soon a Woman” they all portray a type of love. This essay will show you how each of the stories portray a type of love.
Poetry in essence is a written artistic form of expression. It allows for writers to reveal their ideas and feelings in a very unique way. Wallace Stevens once said, “Poetry is a destructive force”. In other words poetry has power, I believe this is a very true statement. Another poet by the name of William Carlos Williams once said, “Poetry is a small (or large) machine made out of words.” I also believe this statement to be true, each aspect of a poem is important to its function as a whole, and if something is missing or changed it can no longer work in the same way. The poet Derek Walcott I believe knew these “rules of poetry” and modeled them in his own writing. For example we can see use of these statements in his poem “A City’s Death By Fire”.
Many people have different perspectives when it comes to the topic of love. The word love has been tossed around by everybody and not very many people really understand the true meaning of love. There are some exceptions, but I think this is especially true for teenagers and young adults. I might be one of those people who do not fully understand the topic of love, but I hope to better understand the topic of love and its true meaning is this course.
Love, that single feeling which generates the funny sensations in people's stomach, giving them the warm pleasures in their body, causing them to feel joy, and to believe every aspect in their life is right. It causes them to receive an exhilarating, appealing feeling that makes them want to rejoice. Love can be a speeding of their heart, but it can also be nerve-racking. It makes their hearts begin to rapidly pump, making a rapid beat— “ba-boom, ba-boom, ba-boom”. Attempting to describe love is a rigorous task, but it is possible. However, the easiest detail to describe and understand about love is not so much the feeling of it, but the concept of what it is about. Many people may obtain different views and definitions regarding love, but
Poetry must be music in the form of words. Some poets believe the definition of poetry is in the music it creates. "Smooth or rough, with them, is right or wrong." Alexander Pope believed that a poem must be pleasant to the ear. A poem must follow certain rules. A poem can never "ring round the same unvaried chimes" and "[drag] its slow length along." Poems must "[whisper] through the trees" to please the reader's ear. For a poem to create music the poem must follow certain rules. What is the usefulness of a poem if it doesn't communicate any emotions to the reader in the end? It is nice to hear pleasant sounds but the goal of a poem cannot just be to produce pleasant sounds.
There are many positive things and negative things about the movie and the story. In the movie
What is love? Love is a very special and meaningful word to each human being. Each human being has his/her own thoughts about love to guide himself/herself to land safely and smoothly into the kingdom of Love. Without this preconceived idea of love, people would be acting like a blind person searching for the light with thousand of obstacles in front of him.
