Harvard Model United Nations is a four days conference and international stimulation for students who have interests in politics. This conference is annually held in Boston, Massachusetts by Harvard University students. HUMUN have brought more than 3000 students and faculties from schools, colleges, and universities around the world in one place to discuss issues that international community is facing today. Students have been preparing for long time for this conference to come and participate, debate, negotiate, and come up with resolutions to solve world’s most complex issues ranging from international peace and security to human rights.
Students have gain benefits from participating and open their minds in many issues about international affairs and to represent countries that contribute in these issues. Furthermore, students have chances to build up their skills in many things such as public speaking, communicating, working as a team, learning how to be diplomatic, how to write quick using political terminology, and much more.
One semester before the conference begun, we have prepared a lot so we can understand the roles and procedures, how to debate, research, motion and negotiate. We have assigned certain countries by Harvard directors to represent its stances in particular issues. There are several different committees and I was participating in Disarmament and international security committee. I was assign to represent The Republic of Macedonia and do some research in what Macedonia stance for in terms of regional of two major topics that we have to discuss, security and civil war, and biological and chemical weapons.

I have my suggested draft with me at the moment, and I think I shall copy it onto this entry. This will be something, hopefully, that I will be able to look back on and smile after the war has come to an end.

However, I have had the privilege to be a part of my school’s Model United Nations team, where I/in which I collaborate with and discuss our world’s most pressing issues with other students. The opportunity to attend Governor’s Honors Program is a chance to further my skills both in working individually and collaborating with students in a subject area that I am likely to pursue a career in. I believe that Governor’s Honors Program gives students opportunities to learn and grow that cannot be attained in a regular school classroom; and these opportunities will give me knowledge and skills necessary to achieve my goals. I hope to attend this program because it will benefit me in a variety of ways and make a lasting impact on my academic decisions, from preparing me to attend a high level university, to providing me with insight and experience in this particular subject area, therefore aiding me to pursue a career in this field of
Out of all the dangerous powers and authority our government wields, possibly the most threatening powers are nuclear weapons. People tend to be frightened by things they do not understand, which make nuclear weapons a perfect catalyst for fear. These weapons have the most overwhelming and destructive power known to man; although, nuclear weapons are only safe in countries that try to maintain harmony and stability. Nuclear weapons are defined as “explosive devices whose destructive potential derives from the release of energy that accompanies the splitting or combining of atomic nuclei.” This power is both dangerous and unstable in the hands of small erratic countries.
infuses hope. JFK said “ask not what your country can do for you” which challenged americans to give in a way of a public good. After that the students learned that the civic action and how it got in there lives.
Throughout the movie of UP we are introduced to many creative yet relatable characters. This charismatic Pixar film is directed by Pete Docter and is mostly aimed at younger audiences. The main protagonist of the film is an elderly man named Carl Frederickson who for the majority of the latter scenes is paired with a young and energetic young boy named Russell. Along the way this movie takes viewers through a cinematic journey as Mr Fredricksen takes a trip to Paradise Falls in an unusual form of transportation. There are many important character actions in the movie and these actions all link to the events in the story.
Assuming that the production of chemical weapons in Libya is contrary to the goals of the non-proliferation regime supported by the United States, U.S. foreign policy must be bound to take a harsh stand against Libyan proliferation. However, obligations to U.S. security assurances expressed in Protocol I of the Pelindaba Treaty, the 1995 Review and Extension Conference for the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), and, most recently, the Presidential Decision Directive (PDD) proscribe the U.S. use of nuclear weapons on Libya.
From the creation of nuclear weapons at the start of the Cold War to today, the world has experienced struggles fueled by the want of nuclear power. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and Iran’s nuclear weapon program are some of the most important conflicts over nuclear weapons. Thanks to the use of nuclear weapons in 1945 to end World War II, the world has come extremely close to a nuclear war, and more countries have began developing nuclear power. Unmistakably, many conflicts since the start of the Cold War have been caused by nuclear weapons, and there are many more to come.
every nation in the world belongs to the United Nations. The United Nations has four purposes: to maintain international peace and security; to develop friendly relations among nations; to cooperate in solving international problems and in promoting respect for human rights; and to be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations. The United Nations is not a world government though, and it does not make laws.
Fifty-eight years after the signing of the Charter, the world has changed dramatically. Its universal character and comprehensiveness make the United Nations a unique and indispensable forum for governments to work together to address global issues. At the same time, there remains a large gap between aspiration and real accomplishment. There have been many successes and many failures. The United Nations is a bureaucracy that struggles – understandably – in its attempt to bring together 191 countries. It must come at no surprise, therefore, that a consensus cannot always be reached with so many different competing voices.
3. The UN structure is a very well thought-out one. The UN contains over 150 countries, with 5 main heads of state. These 5 countries are America, France, Great Britain, Russia and China. The 5 head countries always make the decision on whether to help a country that is in need or not. The basic structure is that there is a general assembly, which is the head of the UN. Off that there are 5 separately run systems, which are International court of justice, Economic and social council, Security Council, secretariat and the trainee council. All have different, yet major roles in striving to make the UN a success.
The conference, which began in July 1945, was held after the greatest victory of history. But the problem that had to be solved was very important: Rebuilding Europe. The need for Europe to be ruined by war has created this need. At the conference, a Council of Foreign Ministers was set up to prepare peace treaties. The most important issues addressed are:Germany problem, Poland problem, Occupation of Austria, Soviet duty in Eastern Europe, war reparations and war with Japan.
IV. The shift in global power has increased the importance for students to understand the world outside the United States and North America in order to be informed. Study abroad opportunities
The United Nations has made many achievements since the agreement made in 1945. The efforts of the UN helped end the apartheid in South Africa allowing the citizens of South Africa equal participation in the Elections of April 1994 followed by a consensus in choosing a form of government. 90 percent of children in developing countries attend school and 60 percent of adults in these countries can read and write thanks to the UN and the struggle to improve education in developing countries. Over 300 international treaties have been created through United Nations efforts to strengthen international law. These achievements and many others encourage people like myself to promote and praise the United Nations.
Learning a foreign language takes time and devotion. It is said that you live a new life for every new language you speak. If you know only one language, you live only once. It will also help me share my experience and thoughts with developing leaders from different parts of the world. I will be able to learn more about conflicts and peace building aspect, cross-national similarities and how to promote inter cultural harmony among different cultures of the world. People of every country have there own communication styles and possess different attitudes towards completing tasks. Therefore I want to learn more about different decision making styles and versatile problem resolution skills which make it more attractive to learn from others and to share your own ideas. We are all living in cultures with different values and traditions. Culture also affects human behavior, the more we understand it, and the better member of society we will be and the more peaceful world we can create. In current scenario where I only see hatred, extremism and terrorism all around, it is very essential to cultivate tolerance for different cultures and ways of living. This is only possible by learning new languages and by studying and developing an understanding of foreign cultures and their way of thinking. Masters in International Affairs will not only enable me to enter the political and diplomatic world but
