Describe an object that is important to you and explain why
My Kelty Redwing backpack is folded up in my closet. Cramped on a shelf next to a box of old textbooks and forgotten letters, my backpack, like me, would rather be elsewhere.
Gloomy New England is no place for an active pack such as mine. There, the pack's buoyant purple, teal, and navy blue colors seem lost in shadow. Helpless, I do likewise, and watch my skin turn from a healthy tan to sickly white. We can hardly wait for the upcoming vacation. I take my pack to and from school with me. Holding up to 5600 cubic inches, my pack feels comfortable on my back even with sixty pounds of gear.
During winter vacation, I usually take a skiing trip to a cabin in the Washington State Wilderness. Loaded with everything from Monopoly to a waffle iron, my backpack shields me from snow dripped by evergreens. It never actually skis, but my backpack wouldn't dare miss a downhill ski trip in the Rockies of Idaho. I leav...
Imagine walking through a rainy, humid tropical rain forest with forty to fifty pounds of precious luggage strapped to your back wondering where and when the next shot will be fired. Wondering whether or not you will live to see another day of combat with your brothers. American soldiers carried this burden with them every day while in combat during the Vietnam War. In the short story, “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien, he explains the positive and negative effects of the things that soldiers carried with them during the Vietnam War.

Throughout Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried, there is a constant theme about all the things that the soldiers carry. In the opening chapter, The Things They Carried, the soldiers are carrying tangible and intangible items. The tangible items included things they carried like mosquito repellant, pocket knives, wound compress, tents, weapons, and ammunition for the purpose of basic survival in the war. As the rank of the soldiers increase, the responsibility that needed to be carried also increases. Being the highest rank, Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried the compass, maps, and the soldiers’ lives in his hands. Rat Kiley, the medic, carries the pain medication and malaria tablets to keep the men from getting disease. Besides the survival items,
Soldiers endured the daily round of roll calls, meals, drills, inspections, and fatigue duties. Throughout this tedious and seemingly endless routine, it was often the personal necessities sent or brought from home, or purchased from sutlers (licensed provisioners to the army) that made camp life tolerable. Many of these items were used for personal hygiene, grooming, and keeping uniforms in repair. Today these diminutive legacies provide us with a very personal and tangible connection to the soldiers of the Civil War.

Investigation of the heat energy produced by combustion of various alcohols. Aim: ---- To investigate how different alcohols produce different amounts of heat energy through combustion. I will be heating water using different alcohols as fuels and measuring the amount of fuel consumed.
one gram of water by 1ºC. I chose to use water because it is safe,
water has risen to 60°c I will then put the lid on the spirit burner
Rat Kiley has with him the medicine, surgical tape, painkillers, and other things that end up weighing a lot. Ted Lavender is very scared, so he also has with him a large supply of ammunition. They all carry with them as much as they can. Weather it be for protection or entertainment, fear and amazement of the things they have with them.... ... middle of paper ...
He wore the jacket for many years and he felt that not one good thing happened to him. He had bad thoughts of himself about embarrassment and feeling ashamed because of the jacket. When his brother started to call him “camouflage”, he threw the jacket over a fence into an alley. From that, I feel like he was done with it as if he was finally going to let go of it but he went to grab it and when he went inside he started to mope. From that point, he probably felt all these bad mixed emotions such as frustration towards himself and aggravated towards the jacket. He realizes that the jacket made him become someone he cannot accept as a person. That’s sad because he was highly feeling depressed with all these problems that he couldn’t resolve anymore because it was already done by making one simple decision of wearing that jacket in the first place. As a consequence, he feels that the jacket was a form of destruction to
Monday through Friday I carry my binder and pencil pouch because it has almost everything I need for school. I carry notebooks, paper, homework assignments, notes, and a bunch of other useful papers. I also carry pens of every color, because I color code almost everything. In my pencil pouch I have a few pencils and a big eraser to erase all my little mistakes too. And most importantly I have a calculator because I am terrible at math. This seems like a lot but right now it only weighs a few pounds and I don’t really mind carrying it because I need these things every day.
The measurements [Mass of alcohol burned (g), Temperature increase (oc)] will tell me what mass of alcohol is used during combustion to cause the temperature increase of 20oc in the water, I can then work out the energy released per mole and compare these values and see which has the highest enthalpy of combustion. I will need to repeat my experiment a number of times and take an average so I am sure of an accurate result.
Thin air encompasses me as I commence the final day of skiing at Vail, Colorado. Seven days of skiing elapse rather painlessly; I fall occasionally but an evening in the Jacuzzi soothes my minor aches. Closing time approaches on the final day of our trip as I prepare myself for the final run of the vacation. Fresh off the ski lift, I coast toward the junction of trails on the unoccupied expert face of the mountain. After a moment of thought, I confidently select a narrow trail so steep that only the entrance can be seen from my viewpoint.
Ultimately when conducting this experiment I need to look at how to determine chemical change and how to measure
At no point in life can you be perfect at anything, but you can prepare yourself for the adventures of life. One of life’s biggest challenges is marriage. Marriage requires preparation emotionally and spiritually. Marriage is considered to be one of the hardest aspects of life to control. Merging two different customary lifestyles into one can be difficult especially since the feelings of both are involved. I have learned both the numerous ways to destroy and build a successful marriage. Marriage is the union of man and woman becoming as one flesh according to God’s law and the law of the land.
