These pythons are a threat to small snakes, farm animals, pets and small children. These invaders came into Puerto Rico and Florida through trades and/or being sold as "exotic" pets.
It is also illegal to keep these snakes as a pet (without a permit) and owners can face a $1000 fine. Many websites such as Petfinder explain the pros and cons of keeping this snake as a pet and how to take care of them if you choose to keep such a dangerous snake as the pet.
