Culture of the 1980’s As decades pass through time, the culture of people change. 10 years is a long enough time for opinions, style and arts to change popularity in people’s minds. The 1980’s was an exciting year that brought along new styles, new music, new technology and more for the people of their time to enjoy.

The fashion of the 80’s was all about bold colours, the size and experimentation. People often would express themselves through their clothing styles and try to make big fashion statements through what they were wearing. It was very common to see women wearing shoulder pads under their shirts, mesh tops, leg warmers, shirts with popped collars and any clothing with bright neon colours. Judd Nelson was a popular one who starred in The Breakfast Club, Making the Grade and From the Hip. Another one was Molly Ringwald who also starred in The Breakfast Club and other movies such as Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles. Michael J. Fox was very popular because he was the main character in the Back to the Future trilogy and Teen Wolf. Tom Cruise was another, famous for movies like Risky Business and Top Gun. Robin Williams was very popular for his movies such as Mrs. Doubtfire and Jumanji. Some other popular movie stars of the 80’s were Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Whoopi Goldberg and Tom Hanks. The music industry was also gaining a lot of popularity due to all the technology that offered so many new and cheaper ways to hear the latest hits such as CD’s and T.V channels. Some of the most popular singers were Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Dolly parton, Cyndi Lauper, Paula Abdul, Ozzy Osbourne and David Bowie. Music was taking new turn because they were now introducing more electronically made music with something called a synthesizer.
