Usually when people talk about the good old days they are usually referring to the 1990s. The 90s was a decade where society and the way of living had change into something flashy and original. The 90s was the golden age for America as great achievements would be made and technology would revolutionize. The 90s is the greatest decade in the 20th century for America because it was the birth of new technology and science, entertainment and pop culture were at its finest and, the accomplishments made in the 90s. These aspects are what shaped the 90s into the greatest decade in the 20th century.
Reason 1: The birth of new technology and science

decade brought some of the greatest scientific findings and technological inventions in human history”(brighthub). One of the most useful tools to ever come from the 90s was the WorldWideWeb, when Tim Berners Lee and Robert Cailliau published the World Wide Web to the public it changed the perspective of online usage as popular websites like Google, Yahoo, Facebook, and Youtube wouldn't have came to existence without the “WWW”. Two great scientific breakthroughs in the 90s that would end up being one of the greatest scientific advancements which brought positive and negative attention and it opened up debates. This scientific breakthroughs were animal cloning and genetic engineering. Dolly was the first animal to ever be genetically modified or cloned and this breakthrough opened doors for genetically modifying Vegetables and fruits so they can become more useful and sustainable. Before 1999 more than 10,000 stores were selling genetically modified food. There are many more technology and scientific improvements or upgrades introduced like the hubble telescope, electric cars, Robotic Limbs and much more. These aspects are a piece of what makes the 90s the greatest decade. Reason 2: Entertainment and Fashion The Entertainment and pop culture were at its finest during the 90s as television and the internet were becoming more necessary or useful.
Television and movies were at its golden moments as majority of Tv shows and movies classics came from the 90s like the simpsons which is “The series currently holds the record for the longest-running prime-time sitcom in the US, running for 25 years since 1989, and becoming the longest-running program on FOX”(Wiki). American movie classics were born like Titanic, Forrest gump, Toys story, and The Matrix. Movies and Tv shows were amazing during this time but the “icing to the cake” of Entertainment came from videogames as gaming companies fought to get more support and purchase of their consoles and games as gaming became popular because of these games Super mario, Pokemon, Mortal Kombat, Sonic, Zelda and Tetris. Fashion of the 1990s was wild and colorful with crazy geometric shapes and If your clothes were not baggy then you were considered lame. Plenty of popular clothing brands in the 21st century made their launch to popularity because of the 90s. The group who molded 90s fashion to be greatest where the youth, the youth were the ones who started so many popular fashion trends that would make the 90s have a unique look. You were not a 90s kid if you did not have a pair or a bunch of Levi’s jeans, Levi’s was the go to jean as the popular 517 and 501 were born and everyone was cutting their Levi’s, Rolling up their Levi’s, or even
drawing on their Levi’s, Levi’s was surely the best Jeans company in the 90s. Caps were one of the significant trends to come from the 90s every young person had a baseball cap or a bike cap wearing caps became so popular the the moment you stepped out your house it is likely to see someone with a cap on. If it was hot outside or you just wanted to flex in front of your friends or the ladies the Tank top was the top a 90s person would wear, the tank tops of the 90s were baggy and loose and they obviously had to have bright fluorescent colors. One of the brand to revolutionize sneakers and the “shoe game” where Air Jordans everyone was going crazy over Jordans as each series of Jordan's had a unique shape and design which no sneaker brand could trample over. Sneakerheads believe that Jordan's were so popular because “Michael Jordan won SIX championships in the '90s. That fact alone made us believe that wearing Jordans gave us magic powers. (Also, they still do.) Each pair of Js released during this era was a banger. Every pop culture icon in the '90s rocked a pair. Undeniably the greatest trend of the '90s”(Complex). The most well known fashion trend to come from the 90s was jackets. Jackets were massively popular the best of the best of jackets were shell jackets and bomber jackets but that just a small fraction of what made jackets so astonishing. The main reason why jackets were so desired in the 90s was because of the designs and colors, the designs on jackets in the 90s were loud and wild as geometric shapes and graphic designs thrived but the icing to the cake was the colors, as the colors of the 90s had to eye catching and the only colors that could do that was fluorescent and gradient colors as every jacket in the 90s had to have crazy bright colors. Fashion and Entertainment is one of the key aspects that made the 90s the greatest.
After World War I, America was going through an uplifting time of good fortune and prosperity. This period of freedom, known as The Roaring Twenties was a time for fun and disobeying rules. The 1920s brought new and exciting things to American culture. Music, entertainment, pop culture, and fads were greatly impacted during this time in history. The effects of each of these areas still influences America today.
The roaring twenties were full of great invention, jazz and the fads. Everyone could find an interest in the twenties especially in the fads. Each fad made this decade one of kind. Without the fads this era would not have had the impact it did on the American history. This was a wonderful time in the American history but it also short lived and the great depression and WWI were just the corner and soon to come.
There is a reason why the 90’s was called the last great decade. The 90’s was a
Of all the 1980’s films, that can be described as “Eighties Teen Movies” (Thorburn, 1998) or “High School Movies” (Messner, 1998), those written and (with the exception of “Pretty In Pink” (1986) and “Some Kind of Wonderful”(1987)) directed by John Hughes were often seen to define the genre, even leading to the tag “John Hughes rites de passage movies” as a genre definition used in 1990s popular culture (such as in “Wayne’s World 2” (1994 dir. Stephen Surjik)). This term refers to the half dozen films made between 1984 and 1987; chronologically, “Sixteen Candles” (1984), “The Breakfast Club” (1985), “Weird Science” (1985), “Ferris Bueller's Day Off” (1986), “Pretty In Pink” (1986) and “Some Kind Of Wonderful” (1987) (the latter two being directed by Howard Deutch). For the purpose of this study, “Weird Science” and “Some Kind of Wonderful” shall be excluded; “Weird Science” since, unlike the other films, it is grounded in science fiction rather than reality and “Some Kind of Wonderful” as its characters are fractionally older and have lost the “innocence” key to the previous movies: as Bernstein states “the youthful naivete was missing and the diamond earring motif [a significant gift within the film] was no substitute” (Bernstein, 1997, p.89). Bernstein suggests that the decadent 1980s were like the 1950s, “an AIDS-free adventure playground with the promise of prosperity around every corner … our last age of innocence” (Bernstein, 1997, p.1). The films were very much a product of the time in terms of their production (“suddenly adolescent spending power dictated that Hollywood direct all its energies to fleshing out the fantasies of our friend, Mr. Dumb Horny 14 Year Old” Bernstein, 1997, p.4), their repetition (with the growth of video cassette recorders, cable and satellite with time to fill, and also the likes of MTV promoting the film’s soundtracks) and their ideologies.
The Roaring 20's was a time of celebration, but to many the 20's were instead
Although the teens of the fabulous fifties have come and gone, the teens of today have stepped up to the plate to instill their own fashion trends, music, slang and history. The teens of the twenty-first are said to "be the future", although the future may not look too bright in some elders eyes. In contraire, that is what may have been thought to be said of the teens of the fifties. With their endless rock and roll and rebellion the teens of the fifties are very much different but very much the same of the teens in the twenty-first century. It is amazing to see what the world has become, from bobby socks and roadsters to mini skirts and vipers.
The nineteen eighties were known for new music genres becoming popular, space travel, new technologies, and a galore of fun and interesting things. This is the life of an average human in the nineteen eighties but as you dig deeper into the eighties and look between the lines you will discover many things about the nineteen eighties, such as its economic, social and political state. In the nineteen eighties Canada benefited greatly and saw great prosperity socially and politically but economically there were many negatives as well as positives.
When examining all of the events that happened in the 90’s, many factors could lead to how babies will grow up. Such as the Grunge Era, which could have exposed some fetuses to drugs, and to Alternative rock. Moreover, Desert Storm was in full swing, so this potential exposure to war for fetuses makes babies more susceptible to all of the side effects that come from participating in a war, such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In addition, there is a possibility that children born in the 90’s, when there was a huge rise in computers, have an affinity for technologies due to their parent having experience with it. Lastly, from what I have learned about fetuses and brain development, that as the fetus is growing in the mother, they are growing
After World War 1 had ended, Americans were happy and called for a time of celebration. Times were beginning to change and revolutionize into an era never experienced before. Many people thought that with the ending of the war, things wouldn’t look to good in the United States but the reality was that things looked way much better than they expected. The ending of World War 1 resulted in a boom of great new things in the U.S. during the 1920’s called the roaring 20’s. This era seemed as if I was a carefree era and people seemed to have more money than ever. The Roaring 20’s consisted of an era with new inventions, prohibition, jazz music, and women becoming more independent. Most of the roaring 20’s, was an uplifting time for the spirit of the United States and enhanced American life.
The History of Hip Hop, in the 1970’s, when rap music was first going big, it was an underground urban movement known as ‘Hip hop, just began to develop to one of the biggest music genre’s in the South Bronx in New York. The 80’s saw a big impact om rap/Hip-hop music throughout the 80’s that made rap as big as it now. The Hip Hop genre focused on emceeing over house parties and neighbourhood block party events, held outside. The trends in 90’s changed when Hip-Hop/Rap music got popular, the fashion trends for rapper back in the 80’s and 90’s wore cloths all baggy, did not fit them and their pants maybe sagging.
In the early nineties, women were hyper-sexualized and viewed as pawns in a game. MTV showed music videos with scantily clad women which were seen as extremely scandalous at the time. The nineties was also an era of growth, liberalization and sex...
Many of us don’t get out of bed in the morning without checking our phone and going on the internet to see what the weather will be like for today, calling our friend to see where to meet before school, and instantly turning on our favorite songs to get ready to. Thanks to the 1990s, all of those things are possible. The 1990s introduced technology such as the internet, cell phones, cd’s, and many other things that has changed the world, and made communication and finding information faster and more convenient.
Moreover, many products were luxurious in the 80s because the economy recovered during that period. Modern fashion is meaningful; it brings many changes and has a huge influence on general life. Heskett (2002) mentioned that it not only changes the lifestyle, but also changes the minds of a generation.
Growing up in Africa as a millennial wasn’t easy. Over their dreams are like fairy tales something imaginal. I was stuck living a gen x live a live that is not main, people tell me what to do all the time. The poverty, poor economy, and the lack of education all played a big roll to evolve a millennial like me into a Gen X. every time I tried to do something new a wall of judgement stops me from it. I felt like I had been dragged down into the “save zone” as many old people called it. Many old people believe that millennials are lazy, stupid, undependable and can’t focus because they don’t know what is best for them. However, how anyone will know what is best for him/her without trying it first. I don’t want to be
The generation that I was born into can sometimes be easily misunderstood by those in earlier generations. The individuals in my generation get thrown many different labels such as those that Rosie Evans (n.d.) listed in her article, “Millennials, Generation Y, the Lost Generation, boomerang kids, the Peter Pan generation…” and more. This can impact us as a whole because some will begin to live by the labels, in some cases that can be negative but in others it may be beneficial. Many people in this generation believe that they can’t reach their full potential due to labels and prejudgment, while there are others believe nothing can hold them back. When we get labeled all together that is also what may drive some to try to stand out from the
