I was born February twenty-first 2,000, in Gainesville, Florida. My father was the assistant baseball coach at the University of Florida at the time, and my parents had to race to the hospital after a game to have me. I have lived in Florida, Arizona, and now Georgia. All those moves were because one of my parents got a new job. Augusta is now the place where I have spent most of my life growing up. I moved to Augusta, from Arizona, twelve years ago when my mother took a conference office job with the Peach Belt Conference. I was five years old then, and my father wanted to retire from coaching baseball to spend more time with me, so we moved out here so my mother could work and my father could spend his time raising me. This move helped me
Well, my brother's a golfer, so we moved partly because of him. But also my mom wanted to give me a chance to have more opportunities in acting, and so we moved here so that could happen.
When it comes to the topic of college, Martin Espada, the author of "Why I Went to College," argues that college is a must and that if you do not attend college there will be consequences. In comparison, David Leonhardt, author of "Is College Worth it? Clearly New Data Say," also argues that college is very important to get a higher paying job than those who do not attend college. In contrast, Leonhardt also argues that college may not be the best idea considering the substantial amount of debt provided with college. My own view is more with David Leonhardt because I understand both sides of attending or not attending college with the positives and the negatives of the dilemma. This discussion is important in our society today because we constantly push the idea of college on to kids that may not even be ready for college or the fact that the debt may not be worth it; also the rise in the wage gap between college students and non-college students.
However, when a student takes an online class the student and professor are at a disadvantage of building an interpersonal relationship. For example, a professor is unable to read the nonverbal cues of a struggling student through a computer screen or is unable to tell if a student is experiencing a true emergency. Just as, a student is unable to read their professors nonverbal cues that a particular chapter or assignment is vital to passing the course. I have taken classes on campus and online classes for three semesters now and have learned that regardless of class format a student needs to be dedicated, structured, self-motivated and not afraid to ask questions. A disadvantage of taking an online class is if a web portal is not working properly.
I grew up in Hemet, California in a neighborhood filled with friends that I grew up with. I remembered a lot about my home that I grew up in mostly because I remember details better than most people. I may remember details, but I love looking back on memories I had with my family and friends.
Although high schools have changed their standards over the years to prepare their students for the transition of college, does it actually work? In his essay “the Transition to College”, author Keith Hjortshoj explains no, because the conflict that develops when high school teacher and college professor assume upon one another is what makes the transition unpredictable. There was a survey done by students who were in a four year college that the result showed that 90 percent of students attend the first or second college of their choice. The author then explain with the limited perspective, one can assume that college is “ordinary, predictable experience, effectively regulated by educator at both ends of a transition that has become straight
I was born in Houston, Texas, and for that reason it has always been a home to me. Even though I love the quiet life of a small town (like Burns Flat, where I attend school), the lights and skylines of a big city have always stood for a lot of ideals that I hold very true to my heart. Opportunity, growth, and pride are just a few of these ideals that reflect not only how I feel about cities, but also how I view myself. I spend my summers and holidays in Christmas every year with my dad, my stepmom, and my stepsiblings and their friends, who I spend most of my summer hanging out with.
Detroit, Michigan is my hometown and I lived there for eleven years. My parents wanted to get out of the moody and violent environment, because they grew up in Detroit as well. In 2008 half of my family moved to Covington, Georgia. My new life was different, because not only did I have to adapt but I had to look towards the future. In this new environment I had to make new friends and get out of my comfort zone. Honestly moving to Georgia was one of the biggest jumps in my life, because I was in a whole new city and it was really a fresh start. So I had to look out for myself and make sure that I made better decisions than before.
I was hoping to move to Alaska or Arizona, but instead we got Arkansas. I wasn’t excited about it but, it was some place different. I moved around the end of July. It was really hard to move and leave my friends, but we still keep in contact every now and then. When I came to Arkansas it was really different. It felt weird to be in the States after seven years. There were new things that I had never seen or even heard of. I was anxious about starting school. Getting used to going to a small school on base in Germany was extremely different from going to public school.
I was born in Walnut Creek, California on a hot summer afternoon in the year of 1996. When I was only a few weeks old, my mother left my father for good
I first became a mother on a very hot day in North Carolina on August 2008, to a 9 lb. 7 oz. girl. We moved to Texas when she was 7 months old and have lived here ever since; except the 6 months we lived in Canada during the winter. It was a great experience living there but it made me very grateful for Texas winters.
An area of great contrast between the two forms of education regards the student experience. For example, students may enjoy taking tests or listening to lectures in the comfort of their own home. However, this poses a major disadvantage of not being able to ask questions as they naturally arise. An online student may have to wait around for their instructor to respond to an email, whereas being present in a classroom permits questions to be asked and answered on the spot. Another advantage of attending a brick-and-mortar college is having access to classmates for study groups or help with homework. After reading several students opinions on their online classes, I have come to realize the overall expe...
Online school and classes have major flexibility in many aspects. For example, a student can accomplish their classes from their own home. It also does not necessarily matter the time of day that the student feels to do their work, so the student can make their own schedule. Along with that schedule, the student can choose the pace of the class so they can learn the material to the best of their ability. Also, online schools such as Florida Virtual School (FLVS) may offer more
A main concern that many students have while attending college is time. Trying to find the time to work, spend time with their family, and go to school can be very stressful for some students. Someone who does not work, or doesn’t have kids might not have an issue with fitting time into their schedule for traditional classes. For the students who do have a busy life might find it harder to attend a traditional classroom, so they have the option of taking online classes and making the classes fit around their time schedule.
When I first enrolled here at State University, I never thought I would ever be in the position to graduate. Finishing college was a huge goal growing up but it was also my biggest fear. But after three and a half years of dedication I plan to get my degree in the fall. Getting this far in college was not easy, it took encouragement from family, dedication, and assistance from others to reach this position.
