“Right is right even if no one is doing it, wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it” once wrote.” Augustine of Hippo. That’s what the whole deflate gate is about who is right or wrong. Or if there is even a reason to be arguing over. The Patriots were punished for a crime and the Colts didn’t.
The deflategate is where the Patriots deflated the game balls against the Colts in the AFC Championship game in 2015. The Patriots were punished by a 1 million fine and docked two draft picks. The score was 7 to 45. Patriots taking the win. The odd thing is though that the Colts didn’t discover the deflated footballs until later in the game. The Colts apparently already knew or had a phantom knowing about the deflated footballs, but who is really
In the Conference Championship against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the game, Brady went down with an injury, but luckily Bledsoe finished the game out and won. The Patriots were heading into the Super Bowl as huge underdogs expecting to get crushed by the St. Louis Rams in the “Greatest Show on Turf.” Brady got the starting job for the Super Bowl and led the Pats to a seventeen to three lead at the half. The Rams came back in the 2nd half and tied it at seventeen to seventeen with less than two minutes remaining most people thought that the Pats should run the clock out and go to overtime, but instead “Tom Terrific,” and the Patriots drove down the field in spectacular fashion to get into field goal range. Bam! Tom Brady the 199th pick who became the seventh string quarterback was now the youngest QB to win a Super
Today I’m here to talk about how Tom Brady is a cheater. On February 1, 2015 super bowl XLIX was played. The game ended with the New England Patriates defeated the Seattle Seahawks 28-24. The balls used by the Patriates put in Tom Brady’s hands had been deflated prior to the game. The game was played in an over cast and rainy weather forecast. Where deflated balls would be easier to catch/throw.
Intro: In 1946 two members of the New York Giants were found associating with gamblers, trying to fix the NFL Championship Game. These members were suspended and in 1947 the NFL introduced their form of prevention, the injury report (Merritt). Every week, NFL coaches have to list their injured players on the NFL Injury Report. Each player has to be listed as either “doubtful,” “questionable,” or “probable” to play that weekend.
ESPN writer Jeffri Chadiha claims the NFL is getting too “soft.” He also compares the NFL to the “pansy league”. Jeffri expresses his frustration with the NFL innovating the
Currently, media coverage is putting pressure on the NFL and not letting them deal with bigger issues. There is a lack of leadership with the NFL and Roger Goodell. Goodell is not taking things the right way. Teams are losing players because of their crimes and instead of dealing with that
In the 2015 AFC Championship Game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts, the Patriots were accused of tampering with their footballs. They allegedly deflated the footballs to 2 PSI below the legal limit, supposedly giving them an unconstituted and illegal advantage. On May 11th, 2015, the National Football League ruled that the Patriots organization was guilty, penalizing them with a 1 million dollar fine, the loss of a first round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, and the loss of a fourth round pick in the 2017 draft. Tom Brady, the quarterback, was personally penalized with a four-game suspension for his involvement in the incident. He claims, however, to be innocent and has been exhausting every possible legal avenue to avoid his punishment.
This issue could cause a lot of conflict and could take a turn for the worse if not addressed properly. If addressed the wrong way it could be as bad as the Ferguson riots that happened a few years ago. I believe that the best thing for the NFL to do is let the players continue to do this and eventually they will stop. All of these players are very gifted and extremely luck that they are getting paid a lot of money to do something that they love. All in all, I believe that these players are mainly looking for attention and if we all just ignore them they will eventually stop what they are doing and realize what a great country they live
In Forbes Magazine, David DiSalvo’s article “College football steroid use is rampant and little is done about it” talks about the use of performance-enhancing drugs in college football and its rising use in football today. Everybody always bashes baseball and other sports for steroid use but nobody really cares if it’s used in football and many people are starting to question why. Another question that needs to be answered is how are these football players not getting caught by the many drug tests they are forced to take. In most cases it’s blatantly obvious that most of these players are on something. David’s article has opened many of the football fans eyes and people seek the truth behind all of this.
... in the USA. N.p., 6 Nov. 2004. Web. 13 Apr. 2014. This source was very general and it gave the history of the nfl is sections/ It did not really tell me how it affected america and was kind of short compared to my other sources.
Brady loved the public. He knew that, even before the time of radio and television, if he controlled the media, he controlled the masses. Thus, his first move every time was to choose the side which the public sided with, knowing that people listened to what they wanted to hear, which would be him, so he would essentially become the media. And thus, he would create a flock of loyal followers. And with the public behind him, a case was usually
The NFL has been making strides to improve their health and safety in light of the information being revealed in these new studies. The NFL has recently implemented new rule changes and have worked with equipment suppliers in attempt to make the game safer for it’s players. One of the mistakes the NFL made was denying their role in the situation so early on. A Main reason the NFL has had negative PR has been because of their unwillingness to act and take responsibility for head injuries. Now that they have assumed some responsibility in the matter, they have reached an agreement to help former players with head injuries to get the help they need, as well as reach other agreements with the NFLPA. These agreements insured that players were
Obviously rough and now medically proven to be extremely dangerous, football is dire need of rules and equipment change. Whistleblowers and cover-ups continue to find their way into mainstream media and government documentation, yet the NFL continues to side-step taking responsibility for prior, present day, and future players’
America wondered if its favorite game had become too aggressive. A study at Duke University analyzed the number of arrests for violent offenses in the NFL versus an extrapolation of the American population. This source titled Criminal Violence of NFL Players Compared to the General Population, will be used as background information. Alfred Blumstein and Jeff Benedict collected information on 509 NFL players as a sample population. The researchers then separated the population into the two most prominent racial groups, whites and blacks. This is because the rates of arrests for each race vary significantly. Using the FBI’s data resources, Benedict and Blumstein compared the ratios of NFL player arrests in each racial group to the number of arrests per racial group in the entire United States. According to the study, “NFL rates [of violent crime] are less than half of the general population rates for both whites and blacks” (Blumstein and Benedict 14). Another background source, entitled “Does Playing Football Make You Violent? Examining The Evidence”, also concluded that “It’s a myth that NFL players in general are prone to criminality; their overall arrest rates are actually much
While most argue that Colin’s actions were within the parameters and accordance with the constitution, they do state that the National Football League, can, in fact, fire the players for supposedly disrespectful behaviour. Looking at it from a non-political viewpoint, though the players don’t contradict the constitution, NFL ratings have been substantially down and if they continue to be so, the authorities may have to punish these supposedly “disrespectful” behaviours, to bring certain viewers who were offended, back to the
