Topic: Hope Purpose: Informing? Speech 2017 : Hope Hope. “A feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen.” Yes, that's the official dictionary definition, but what does it really mean? What is hope? That’s a question I’ve asked myself multiple times over the past couple of weeks. I didn’t know at first, in fact, I didn’t even know if I did hope. Turns out I do. Turns out everyone does. Everyone perceives hope as something different. Sometimes it’s taken as a positive thing. Sometimes a negative. And then it hit me. I was so focused on a deep and insightful meaning that I didn’t see what was right in front of me. I couldn’t see what was happening on a day to day basis. That it was the one thing I kept doing every minute of every hour of every day. Hope, to me, is something that gets me through the day. I’m always hoping. Hoping that it doesn’t rain. Hoping that I’m not late to class. Hoping that I can go straight home and sleep. It’s like a second nature to me. It’s something that makes me keep going, forcing me to believe in myself even the odds don’t seem to be in my favour. “Umeed pe toh duniya kayam hai”. This translates into ‘The world lives on hope’. What inspires me the most is the reality behind the quote. The world really does live on hope. Everywhere you go, no matter how secluded the place is or how corrupted the country is, there will always be hope. Hope for freedom. Hope for peace. Hope for mankind. I find it hard to think of a world without hope. All I see is chaos and pain. Lots and lots of pain. Hope takes away that pain. The world needs hope to keep burning because hope is what sustains human
