The Law of Respect People naturally follow leaders stronger than themselves. People do not follow others by accident. You have to grow and develop yourself into a leader that people will naturally want to follow. When you follow someone only because of their position, you only do it because you have to. But, when you follow someone because you respect them, then you follow because you want to. The more leadership ability that a person has, the more quickly he/she recognizes strong leadership or its lack in others. When people get together for the first time as a group, they start interacting, the leaders in the group immediately take charge (Maxwell).
When people respect you as a person, they admire you. When they respect you as a friend,

Insecure leaders don’t earn respect. Only secure leaders earn respect from others. If you want to earn respect, show respect. Most people are naturally good and want to do good work. When they are respected, they want to do better work. People who go see, ask why, and show respect are demonstrating strong character. When leaders show respect for others-especially for people who have less power or a lower position than theirs, they gain respect from others. When you show respect for others, you gain respect from others. People desire respect from those around them. If you are fearful and timid about making tough decisions, they will soon know that you are a coward. Don’t rely on violence, intimidation, or persuasion to get people to do what you want them to do, all leadership is voluntary. If a follower is to be led, they will inherently choose to be laid by someone who demonstrates mutual respect …show more content…
Earning respect comes from your natural ability, but natural ability alone limits leadership potential. Earning respect requires that you display respect for others. People will continue to follow when you respect others and lead consistently. We must continue to keep the courage and lead others in the right direction. However, in some point in our leadership, we will stand alone. We must keep in mind that although good leaders do the right things, some will still be faced with failure and criticism. Displaying courage provides a hope for the future that others respect. Earning respect also comes from the successes. People follow others with a good track record of successes. Loyalty contributes to your ability to earn respect.
One may wonder exactly what it is that qualities a strong leader possesses. A strong leader is determined, and strong willed. They must be of good judgment, and without bias. They cannot easily be persuaded, and they are firm, yet at the same time, a good lead must also empathize with his subordinates, and have the best interest at heart for said subordinates, at all times. However, with that being said, a good leader cannot be afraid to discipline his subordinates when necessary. Unmistakably, being a leader is a very difficult feat – one which not everyone can accomplish. A leader must be an authority, a friend and a counsellor, all at once. They must be responsible, and always take into account the disadvantages of a situation. Not everyone is suitable to be a leader, whereas, just about anybody can be a good role model.
A great example of a non follower is leopard man. He is doing something totally out of the ordinary compared to everyone else. Its also a lot easier to follow and not lead which is also the main reason most people aren't leaders. It's like jumping on a train. It's a lot easier to just jump on and ride instead of driving the train. I think people should stop following and start leading.
John Maxwell once said, “People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision.” A leader must have a solid foundation as a human being before he can try to pursue the public about his visions. He will be examined from every angle about his leadership traits, style, characteristic, and so forth. All of these areas of leadership comes together in what we know as integrity. Integrity is doing what is right morally; it requires honesty, making the “right” decisions for the community, taking the blame, and being selfless. In Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and Machiavelli’s The Prince, there are various examples as to what is the difference between a good and a bad leader, including initiative, accountability, generosity, and the leader’s values.
Let it be clear that no book will tell us the optimal way of leading, the best way of organizing subordinates, however, we need to realize that successful leaders have all something in common, their actions speak louder than their words, and that these actions are all guided by integrity. The emerging leader should in the end be able to build a character dependent on integrity. The character should be built by the core values we stand for, by our vision’s context, and what’s most important, we should always keep in mind, that “nothing is worse than losing trust, as it will mark our reputation”.
“A leader must be willing to sacrifice likeability in order to make decisions that are for the good of the people.” This is entirely true. When someone is a leader, their job is to watch out for the people and make the right decisions. Not every decision will be favored, but it’s most likely the best. A leader will understand that.
Leaders should lead by example. What a leader does and how they do it, serves as an example for others to follow. A leader’s behavior and actions are an important and effective way to influence the behavior of the people the lead. Leaders must treat other with dignity and respect. Leaders take responsibility for their actions, maintain their integrity by doing the right things and develop personable and commutative vision for their organizations. Leaders instill a sense of discipline; enforce organizational standards of the organization and do not turn a blind eye or overlook problems.
A true leader must show humility and appreciation for others, in order to be prosperous. This can be achieved through leading by example, working with others, and, surprisingly, letting go.
In order for a leader to be a leader he/she must begin with the assumption that you are the one who matters most. As a leader you have to possess that level of confidence in yourself that you are capable of leading yourself “before you can lead others”. And when you develop this belief then you are better able of affirmative influence “on others”.
Respect is probably the most important trait that needs to be shown towards your superiors. Every Armed forces branch in the United States of America has a chain of command in which respect is the main premise behind the entire organization. Respect backs the ideals and leadership within any chain of command. Respect is important in the design of the military system itself. You have to automatically trust and do what higher ranking cadet, or any cadre member says because they hold power and most likely have more experience then you. You must show them respect to because they have more knowledge and know how, not to mention they have earned the stop they are in. Respect also tires into the worrier’s ethos, which is an important aspect of what it means to be a member of the army.
“The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant,” once stated entrepreneur Jim Rohn on what it means to be a good leader. It is a difficult task, not crossing the fine line between pride and arrogance, for example, but an able leader must know how to do so. He must also feel close to his people and be approachable. A chief whose followers are afraid to address him clearly is coming off too strong and scary. A leader must know how to be humble yet proud of himself and his people.
One very important aspect of a great leader is to lead by example. Any person in a position to guide others cannot ask the team to do one thing and act in the complete opposite way. This is a sure way to show that the leader has a need to show power and quickly loose respect from those who should be learning from him or her. Being a role model is importan...
There are many different things I think of when I think of what leadership means to me. My idea of leadership is to be able to inspire others, get them excited to do something, motivate them and set an example to others. I also think that showing respect to others is a key part of leadership. You don’t just need leadership qualities, but you need to be a successful leader. To me being a successful leader is being able to have people follow you and not disrespect you. If you are a great leader your followers start to respect you more. To be a leader you also need to have certain qualities like being sociable, intelligent, have patience to deal with situations. A leader needs to be motivated or they will be a failure. I think I show leader ship all the time inside and outside of school. “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way (John C. Maxwell).
Leadership can be traced back to many ideologies over the history of time. There have been individuals that have achieved great success and accomplishments through inspiring others to believe and follow their leadership. This paper will explain some of the theories that philosophically explain how those great people inspired others to believe in their vision and goals.
Leading by example is real, people are very impressionable and follow leaders in order to conform and fit into society, however it is up to the leader to determine how their power
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
