I was entering the release papers Ned Kelly had signed yesterday at the Police Station. It was a difficult job and I had to make several trips to get them all filed. I heard a voice and looked up to see Ned Kelly riding a glossy chestnut horse and talking excitedly to a Hawker I didn’t know the name of. I don’t like him, that Ned Kelly. Too confident. I still had some papers for the boy to sign so I signalled for him to come over to where I was standing. “Could you please come over here a minute, Kelly?” I asked, trying to sound polite. “I’ve got some more of these papers here that you have to sign.” He didn’t look too pleased with me but trotted his horse over all the same. I knew the cheeriness was a lost cause. “Top of the morning, Constable
“Thank you, sir. I just don’t understand what’s happening, this seems so surreal...Mr. Morris, Where is Lizzie?”
As "Barn Burning" opens, an adolescent boy named Sartoris Snopes is in court, hoping he will not have to testify in the arson case against his father -- a charge of which Sarty knows Mr. Snopes is absolutely guilty. The judge, whom Sarty perceives as kindly, is nonetheless Sarty’s enemy because he is his father’s enemy, and Sarty has not yet separated himself from his father.
I had to go back to my country and come back to campus really feel the change I went through during the first year in college. I had to observe and interact with the first years to perceive the similarities between them and my old self, to see how I have changed and the extent to which humans are all alike. We might face the same struggles, but the ways we deal with them vary from person to person. I will try to tell my version of growing up in Lafayette.
A couple of weeks ago, the class was assigned a personal narrative essay and the prompt was to tell an interesting story of a specific experience that changed how you acted, thought, or felt. To be honest, I was awfully excited to write this essay because talking about myself is the easiest thing to write about sometimes. However, deciding what experience to talk about was challenging because I have already experienced so much in my seventeen years of being alive from dislocating my hip when I was three, to seeing my grandfather die in front of my eyes, from almost tripping off of the trail on the Grand Canyon, to meeting band members at an airport. Writing this essay brought me many challenges, I did not know what topic to choose, I had no
When I was four years old my father left home. Not only he changed neighborhood or town but he left the country. It may seem that I was too young to notice his absence, but the truth is that this changed my life completely. I was quite close to my father and even today I can remember the emptiness that I felt in my chest. At four years of age I did not realize that behind the story of his departure was one of the greatest life lessons that he taught me.
“Okay, and I’ll just have you stand up to this scale and I’ll take your weight. You weight 142, you are under the weight for your height. Don’t worry, you still have a lot of growing to do. You are only in sixth grade.” The nurse proceeded to show us to our waiting room so the doctor can have a follow up. I wasn’t here for a routine check up, I was here because I was having trouble with my asthma and was going to be testing out a new inhaler. I was out of school for this and the waiting time for a doctor after being administered is a very long. I enjoyed every minute wasted for the more school i missed. The happier I became with this appointment. During the time, I was a sixth grade and a sickly kid as well. I would miss school left and right due
The town starts to wonder who Griffin is and where he came from. Many rumors start to float around the town. Mrs. Hall even says to others he is not that bad of a man. When protecting his secret all the time, he is always on his guard. This creates an uneasy feeling for everyone around him. Finally a man named Mr. Cuss asks to interview Griffin. When Mr. Cuss is interviewing Griffin, Griffin takes his hand out of his pocket. Mr. Cuss can now see that there is no arm in the sleeve. Griffin then leans forward and pinches Mr. Cu...
Each person carries things with them, whether it’s a purse, or a backpack, or a slim wallet slid into their pocket. They may not carry these physical things all of the time, but these staple items are with more than they’re not. The become a part of the person’s identity. They become emotional burdens for the person to bear.
Waves I am a raging inferno of emotions. When I feel, I feel every single part of whatever it may be, even the ones they might think to be most insignificant. When I am cold, it feels as if hell has frozen over Earth. When I am sad, I do not find an ounce of happiness in the whole world.
The man that hops onto the highlight reel every game, the best wide receiver in the NFL. He has set records and has went to Pro Bowls, and was the 4 overall round pick in the 2011 draft A.J. Green. His head is as hard as nails, and when he’s under pressure he never spills the milk. Game after game he resembles great effort along with playing by the rules. He walks into every game with an I-can-do-anything attitude. Even one of the Steelers wide receivers Antonio Brown says, he is one of the most humble and fair players he knows. He could show me how to be a much better team player, and overall athlete. But the most important reason I want to meet him is because. He inspires me to be better everyday, and to keep pushing
I remember when I was ten years old, and my dad used to tell me how attractive parrots were. But I argued with him that roosters were more beautiful than parrots because I had never seen a parrot before. I remember Dad when he brought me a parrot in a cage and said to me it was the one that he believed to be the most attractive bird in the world. I looked at him and turned around and stared at the parrot because I was amazed. Since that day I have become convinced that parrots have many qualities, which make them superior to roosters.
Sometimes I wish there is only one language in the world which all human speaks fluently, so that everyone in the world can express their own ideas clearly and can understand others thoroughly. If this was true, the world will certainly be a much better place. Because many wars probably could be avoided by a long and deep conversation between the leaders of the opposing countries. An interpreter might be able to translate what one is saying to another language, but without emotions and genuineness. Imagine if Obama speaks the same language as Xi Jinping, so they could show some “love” for each other. The United States of America and People’s Republic of China might not be at odds with each other.
Throughout my life, I have always faced setbacks of numerous calibers, but none were as major as the predicament I was put into in early March 2017. It all started around 10:00 P.M. when my friends and I wanted to go get food at our local Wendys. Usually, my friend Justin is a very safe driver, but this time was different. Believing the car coming towards us was going to stop because we were turning into a drive-thru and the street we were turning into had a red light, he began to turn onto the street that led to the drive-thru. To Justin’s surprise, the car did not stop and flew right into the front of our car on the passenger side; which is where I was sitting. After that, I flew into the dashboard because my seatbelt was not locked, and lost consciousness for
During the summer it was a great time to do things that i like. This summer was like all the others because i really don't do anything special within the summers.
My aspiration toward a better education starts all the way back to when I started school in Russia. Out of the short educational experience that I had in Russia, I remember that almost everybody wanted to be the straight-A student (or straight-"5" by Russian grading). That, combined with the constant pressure from my family helped me get excited about school and made me want to learn. My education in Russia was cut short, however, when we moved to the United States.
