My Name Rational. Not the first adjective I would use to describe myself, but when people call me “Alyssa”, people are telling me that I am literally not insane. Strangely, even though I never thought of myself as logical, I love working on reasoning puzzles and ace tests based off of rationality. Plus, I certainly am not crazy (I think). Perhaps my parents were determining my future when they read the special name off of a magazine and knew that they just had to name their firstborn child that. However, this “complicated” name comes with many variations, such as “A-leee-saa” (by my parents, who speak English as their second language), “Liz” (by my friends, who are too lazy to call me by my name, which is just so long), and “A-lai-sa” (by one of Chinese teachers who couldn’t pronounce my name correctly, which resulted in everyone else also calling me by that name in a joking manner). …show more content…
The six year old me also wondered why my parents failed to give me a middle name, which was so important in American society because everyone I knew had one. But as I grew older and gained knowledge, I learned that since traditionally there are no middle names in Chinese, my parents didn’t understand the point of them and decided not to give me one when they integrated into their new country. (Or they didn’t give me one because they were too lazy to come up with good name.) Somehow not having a middle name doesn’t bother me at all anymore, because it makes me unique and reminds me of my parents’ past. Plus, I have less bubbles to fill out when I take standardized
“Can you imagine what a mess a world would be without names? (website)Names are very important to a person and their individuality. Ayn Rand’s novel “Anthem” is a book in which the people written about do not have names. The importance of having your own individual names is huge. A name can have meaning given to it, like how the name Sue means lily. Most parents when giving you your name have a meaning behind it and put much thought into what their future child should be named. Names can give you a part of your identity.

The middle name that appears on my birth certificate is Cristina and I’m quite fond of my middle name because to me the name sounds utterly cheerful and friendly. Maria and Cristina complement each other. Many people when I tell them how my middle name is spelled they tend to believe my mom made a mistake and spelled my name incorrectly. The truth is she meant to spell it like that not because she decided to be slightly unique and spell my name without the letter h but because she decided to commemorate someone or something.
Their selection of new names are hiding their past, but at the same time, representative of their future. Similarly, my great aunt’s name had an impact upon her life, as well as others. My great aunt, Ilene, had decided to change her name to Elizabeth, after graduating from William and Mary College as a English History major. My great aunt’s many family members thought this was an odd and irrational decision to suddenly change her name. Since she is an English History major and a great admirer of Queen Elizabeth I, my great aunt desired a unique name that reflects her love for the subject of her future. After careful thought, my family had come to realize how this choice is important to her new identity. My name also has a meaningful impact upon my life. My middle name, Christine, is connected to my grandmother’s first name. My mother chose the name Christine to honor my Grandmother, whom she strives to model each day, as do I. I am very blessed to have inherited her name and hope someday to obtain my grandmother’s courage, hospitality, wisdom, and kindness. In conclusion, a name defines who a person is and helps create the identity of a human being, which can influence how he or she is perceived by others. A name can never be taken away from oneself or others. If human beings did not have their own names, they are no longer individually unique.
Why would someone need to seek psychotherapy? Which type of therapist do we seek out? Each culture has different needs and those also need to be taken into account when choosing a therapist and the culture we will be discussing in the following pages is a branch of Orthodox Judaism called Hasidic Judaism. We will be investigating psychodynamic, cognitive, gestalt, and client centered therapists, and explaining which of these would be the best choice to help our demographic feel like themselves again. “Speaking of the effects of specific forms of therapy, we need to address the question of which form of therapy is most effective for which type of problem” (Nevid & Rathis p.323).
In middle school, kids’ minds began to develop and whenever I said my last name they would snicker. This also relates to my name being mispronounced, but it was not the first time having my last name mispronounced and definitely not the last. Middle school was probably one of the times I became the most aggravated towards people who said my name incorrectly. However, I had other
There is many different ways which the concept of identity has been defined and studied by social scientists. Some of these scientists include, Coatsworth, Shwartz, Srivastava, and Furstenburg. Our sense of belonging can change according to our perceptions of the world around us. Belonging is a part of human nature, and it can be enriched or challenged by our ever-shifting contexts. Significant experiences in life can often limit an individuals sense of belonging. The choices you make to overcome experiences, that can include barriers can enrich ones sense of identity. Barriers may arise when the individual fails to connect with community. They may also be evident due to cultural differences. The Crucible written by Arthur Miller and Shaun Tan’s The Arrival utilise various techniques such as juxtaposition symbolism and metaphors that explore the notions of enriched or limited sense of belonging using characters or real historical contexts to convey the complex nature of belonging.
Personality wise, most people would say I’m annoying, loud, and rude. Strangers would describe me as quiet and shy.
Before I was born, my mother was not able to get pregnant. Being a devout Christian, she kept her faith in God, hoping she would be able to have a child one day. After four years of waiting, she finally got pregnant. My mother had already made of her mind to name me Emmanuel because she wanted her child to be a constant reminder of her faith in God. However, my father wanted to name me George because that name was based off her name Georgina. My mother and father argued over the name, but my mother kept bringing up their beliefs with made my dad reconsider his decision. If if I was a girl, my mother would have named me Emmanuella because she was already committed to her idea. Ever since then, my name is still a reminder of my parents religious beliefs as well as my
JIAFILMS is an irregular license plate name. You might be pondering what is the meaning of this name? Obviously, it's my last name with “films” at the end. Other than that, this tale begins, 4 years ago, with three girls. Their names were Kaylee Yu, Jennifer Jia, and Jacquelin Jia. These girls were inseparable, although they lived 30 minutes apart. One day, they were playing with Kitty; Kaylee’s dog (yes the dog’s name is Kitty) outside in a garden, they were bored like always, then suddenly, Kaylee had a suggestion. She suggested, “we could pass the time by filming a random movie?” It was a peculiar and insane idea. Nonetheless, it was harmless and fun and they were only doing it to have time fly by right?
The English meaning of my first name Destanee is, certain, fortune, or fate. In Greece, this name has a connection to the Greek god Destanee who was the god of fate.
Each person carries things with them, whether it’s a purse, or a backpack, or a slim wallet slid into their pocket. They may not carry these physical things all of the time, but these staple items are with more than they’re not. The become a part of the person’s identity. They become emotional burdens for the person to bear.
Hi, my name is Rob Geis and I am currently in grade 12. I have been at County High School for a year now; I joined at the start of 11th grade, and have thoroughly enjoyed myself here. The school is great, the people are fantastic and the atmosphere is one that makes you actually want to go to school. Before I joined ASB I was studying at the Singapore American School for two years and prior to that I was at the International School of Kuala Lumpur for two years. I was born and raised here in Bombay city and grew up here.
After writing about my history and the themes I selected, I have learned a lot about who I am in society. I have realized that I am an average girl that has not experienced much of life. During this analysis I have come to realize I have not had much contact with other family types or other cultures.
