Deer Hunting
Is deer hunting just plain old hard work or is it deeper than that? Deer hunting can be really easy if you follow some simple steps. There are many different techniques that can get you closer to killing a deer. Sometimes you have to plan what techniques you need to use and when. The main techniques for killing a deer is scouting, knowing when the rut is, calling, and being in the stand. With these techniques you can be closer to be on your way to killing a deer. Scouting is a very powerful tool when hunting deer. Scouting is a sport on its own. Being able to pattern a deer by reading signs is very enjoyable. Heavey (2008) stated, “Deer hunting is an ancient sport, which can be easy to forget in an age of rangefinders and trail cams. But primal

It just has to be done in the right time. Most of the calling should be done during the rut. Like in the last paragraph, rattling works best during the rut. Hoods (2008) explained, “As for rattling some hunters believe it doesn’t work in some states” (p. 37). The reason most people believe calling doesn’t work is because they are doing it at the wrong time or doing it wrong. Every deer call has way and time to be used. You can’t rattle a month before the rut and expect it to work. Williams (2008) exclaimed, “Rattling is a deadly trick to play when bucks have girls on their minds” (p. 52). Calls also have to be used right for it to be effective.
The most important part of deer hunting is actually going. You can’t expect to kill a deer without going. The basic for hunting is camouflage and a gun/bow. According to Bradshaw (2010), “While deer don’t see as clearly as we do they can still detect motion fairly easy” (p. 45). Deer usually see humans by the movement they make and the form of a body. A deer’s eyes are just completely different than a human. Majority of humans can see color really well, while a deer can’t. We usually can’t see at night while a deer
...sed the cross hairs on its chest and took a shot. The deer jumped straight up in the air and then started running right at me. I racked another shell in the chamber. At less than ten yards I took another shot. This time the deer did two somersaults and landed about seven feet from me. Excited I got up to take a look, the deer was definitely dead. He laid there on the ground in front of me with the nerves in his massive body still twitching. He was a nice ten point, this really made me happy because he was bigger than my brothers. My first shot had hit him in that shoulder, because I was probably shaking when I shot and this threw my shot off. My second shot went threw the neck and into the chest. After sitting and enjoying the moment I gutted him and drug him up to the house. This last season turned out to be my best ever because I was persistent and never gave up.

The best way to control the overpopulation of deer in Alabama is to be an active hunter,
Calling coyotes with the right calls and proper use of them adds extra excitement during the hunting experience. One of the most popular calls available is one used with your mouth. These are the most popular because they are cheap and bring good results if they are used properly. Mouth blown calls are also very easy to carry around and there is a wide variety from which to pick. Another reason these calls are chosen over electronic calls, is because an experienced hunter is able to change the volume, frequency, and tone in the call (Coyote Hunting). Hunters also like the satisfaction of knowing that their experience and skills are the reason they were successful in their pursuit of the coyote. A disadvantage of a mouth blown call is that there is a limited amount of sounds for each call. While blowing on the call, the person may need to move around. In colder weather some calls could freeze leaving you unable to make a call, and there is a minimum skill level in making the proper call and benefiting from it (Coyote Hunting).
“The animals are reducing the number of trees and seedlings and affecting which species will survive, forestry experts say” (NBC news). A wildlife professor estimated that deer cause at least $750 million in damage to the timber industry. This becomes a big impact on the economy. “We view it as problem of our own making,” said Laura Simon, field director of urban wildlife and sanctuaries program for the Humane Society of the United States. “We have created an ideal landscape for deer.” (NBC news). Deer are said to eat anything and everything, this is especially proven when farms have their crops
The deer are easy to spot. In the summer, it’s coat is reddish-brown and in the winter it is buff. All year around its underside and tail are completely white as well as having a white spot on its neck. The prime deer habitat consists of deciduous trees, primarily cottonwood, ash, willow, elm and box elder. However preferred, the woodland cover is not essential to the deer’s survival.

Fall is just around the corner, meaning that it’s almost deer season and time to plan where to get some venison this year. Of course, there is no question that Alabama has plenty of deer, providing Cotton State hunters’ ample opportunities to bring home some meat.
Since the beginning of time man has been hunting animals for food. Even before fire, man needed to hunt, because hunting was the only way to eat. At first man used things such as spears and rocks to kill its prey. As man evolved, they started using bows and arrows. Next came an early model of what we use today, the firearm. It is powerful yet easy to carry around. It puts the animal through less suffering and is a lot more efficient than previous techniques. Hunting was once a necessity, but now it is a tradition, passed on from father to son as a way to spend time together, enjoy the outdoors, and experience what our ancestors went through in hunting their dinner. Since it is considered a sport some think we are killing off the deer population, when in actuality, “While most other big-game species have declined with the spread of urbanization, the whitetail has been able to adapt to its ever-changing environment. Through the efforts of state agencies and conservation groups like Whitetails Unlimited, wildlife officials estimate today’s whitetail population to exceed 30 million” (www.whitetailsunlimited.org).
Hunting as we all know can be a very controversial sport in the eyes of the public. Hunting as described by Webster’s Dictionary is the activity or sport of chasing and killing wild animals. There are numerous different ways to hunt the same animal as well as innumerable different species of animals to hunt. Hunting includes trapping, shooting, and even fishing. Americans tend to hunt for the sport of it while citizens of other countries often depend on the catch of the prey to feed their families and communities.
Hunters often reveal that being in nature provides time to clear the mind. In the woods, there is no rush, no schedule, and no deadlines; nature moves at its own pace. This interaction provides a deep spiritual connection with the land, the wildlife, and our planet. Hunting has been around since the beginning of time and has been in many people 's lives for generations, these are some reasons why people all across America continue to hunt. Hunting has many benefits such as reducing deer related car accidents, controlling deer densities in heavily human populated areas, creates jobs, and feeding and supporting families. Thus, deer hunting is necessary for several reasons.
They say that the easy part of moose hunting is up until you pull the trigger. Well, if this had been the easy part, I did not want to know what the hard part was. Then, six hours later, I understood! Actually, we finally had a lucky break; a half-mile before we caught up to the moose they had crossed a jeep trail. So, after we de-boned the Moose, it only took us four hours of packing fully loaded pack frames to get him to the road………and we are still eating that tasty meat.
Hunting is a passion for millions of Americans across the United States and without it who knows what the current deer population would be. With the white tailed deer having few predators and a large habitat to thrive in it is important to keep the tradition of hunting going. Besides, the real problem Anti-hunters should be focusing on is the growth of cities and communities because they are what truly hurts the deer population. As long as deer hunting safety remains under control and the deer population stays in tacked, there should be no reason to end future hunts for Americans. To conclude, it is true that many people don’t believe in the ethics of hunting and that is alright, because regardless of how they feel hunting is here to stay for many years to
Hunting does not only affect the animals you hunt but also ruins property and injures and kills horses, cows, dogs, cats, hikers, and other hunters. According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), thousands of injuries are attributed to hunting in the U.S. every year, and that number only includes incidents involving
Hunting has always been a cornerstone of the American way of life. To Our forefathers, and Native Americans before them, hunting was a necessary for their survival. In our current times hunting, generally, is not viewed as a way of life, but as a destructive pastime. What most people don't understand is that without hunting, the population of deer and other wild game could grow to unsustainable levels. Without hunters, animals could overpopulate, and cause great ecological damage. The role that hunting plays in sustaining animal populations is defiantly the difference between sustained populations, and mass starvations.
