With new technology introduced every day it might be the time to upgrade to a better computer. Now the question is whether to invest in a pre-built computer or invest in time and money to build a custom computer. Even though there are many good pre-built computers being sold today, custom building a computer is more beneficial because it saves the user more money in the future, builders will have the ability to decide on what components go in the computer, and it avoids many of the preposterous tricks that manufacturers pull off. Since many pre-built computers lack the power and performance needed by gamers and photo editors, they often turn to building a custom computer themselves. Custom built computers will ensure the user cheap prices plus higher and reliable performance. The total price of a custom built computer may be higher than purchasing a pre-built computer, because most OEM’s, or the Original Equipment Manufacturer, install inexpensive components that meet company benchmarks regardless of the quality. When those components fail, it is up to the user to find a certified computer repair shop or will have to ship it back to the manufacturer for repairs. Many repair shops charge as much as $80 just for labor, which still does not include the cost for the required components. “A part that may cost $10.00 for a custom built computer could easily cost over $50.00 from the OEM” (White). A typical repair bill could cost more than $100 just for one repair. With our economy in a recession it is nearly impossible for users to have the money to even fix their own computer. When performing a computer build, there may be old components lying around which can be put to use avoiding the cost of purchasing a new component of the same ... ... middle of paper ... ...i, Vito. Building a gaming computer may be an intimidating endeavour, but in all actuality with a little hard work anyone can be a whiz at putting together a gaming computer. Why build a custom gaming PC? Well it’ll save money, and give the builder a great experience. It’s always fun to learn how different things work. The price of a top of the line retail gaming computer runs from two thousand on up to five thousand dollars and beyond, a monitor alone could cost one thousand dollars. The two types of gaming PC builds are , the hardcore gamer build which will cost a little extra, and the casual gamer build which isn’t as expensive; moreover, the steps in building a gaming PC are: creating a budget, researching what the builder/user wants the PC to be used for, and purchasing the equipment.
Historically the personal computer (PC) industry has sold its products at reasonably high prices yet garnered only small profit margins. One reason for this is the high competition in the PC industry which led to competitive pricing among producers. Analyzing the competitive environment of the PC industry, it is evident that there is very little barrier to entry in this market. PC's have very low physical uniqueness and are made of standard components that require very little expertise to assemble.
The invention of computers has made a huge change in human civilization and society, by changing the way people think. Computers replaced jobs and tedious repetitive thoughts that were done by human originally. People became more and more reliant on computers, and thus, computers became essential to our lives. Computers can manufacture products quickly, and eliminate possible human errors. As technology progresses, new ideas have been brought into computer to make them perform more efficiently. Also, scientists and engineers tend to make things “smaller”, so we can enjoy the benefits from electronic devices anywhere and anytime. Therefore, size and efficiency are two main points for consumers. Desktop computer and laptop computer are representatives for each of these concepts. Although desktops and laptops come from the same origin, they are different in many ways.

I cannot forget how excited I was when I first bought my own computer. Like a mother who spends time sewing and knitting for her newborn baby, I spent hours and hours to sparkle my computer. I waited a long time to buy a brand new computer. I had to work more hours and saved money to buy a computer. I did not want to buy a cheap computer, but I wanted to buy a professional one. Was I professional on computer? No! I was not. I did not even know how to type, but I was sure that my expensive com puter could make me a computer expert. 17 inches monitor, color printer, two speakers and well-designed fancy keyboard made me just happy by looking at them on my desk.
The computer has progressed in many ways, but the most important improvement is the speed and operating capabilities. It was only around 6 years ago when a 386 DX2 processor was the fastest and most powerful CPU in the market. This processor could do a plethora of small tasks and still not be working to hard. Around 2-3 years ago, the Pentium came out, paving the way for new and faster computers. Intel was the most proficient in this area and came out with a range of processors from 66 MHz-166 Mhz. These processors are also now starting to become obsolete. Todays computers come equipped with 400-600 Mhz processors that can multi-task at an alarming rate. Intel has just started the release phase of it’s new Pentium III-800MHz processor. Glenn Henry is
