Before Police and Sheriffs, countries across the world ran protection and law enforcement very differently. More than a thousand years ago in Europe and Japan, a class of professional warriors rose, known as knights and samurai. They were both warriors who owed loyalty to their higher-ups and fought in several fashions. Both of the classes had been a part of Japan and Europe for a couple hundred years, until the invention of guns. In the 1500’s, the invention of guns and bullets had compromised their armor and gave them no purpose to fight. Some may believe that just because they were both parts of different countries that they’re different, But before the fall of two great classes, they both had similarities greater than their differences. From similarity in armor and training to how they would go their daily life, samurai and knights were extremely similar. The social order and how the societies were structured were very complex compared to the other, but Samurais and Knights description on a social pyramid are practically the same. The social pyramid shown in Document A of “Samurai And Knights: Were the Similarities Greater Than the Differences?”, the description of samurai and knights are “ Samurai: Warriors who owed loyalty and military service to the daimyos for land or regular payment.”, And “ Knights: Warriors who owed loyalty and military service to lord for land.”. This shows a similarity because the quotes tell us that besides the samurai also possibly receiving money as payment, they both serve loyalty to their higher ups and military service for land. Also, on the social pyramid in Document A, both the knight and samurai class are place in the middle of the pyramid. What that means is they shared the same social status between the two countries.
