I believe an interest that sets me apart from others is my love for dance. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old, and it is something I enjoy doing. Dance is an art form that I believe is truly underrated. It is my form of self expression, and I don't know where I would be without it. I do ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, pointe, and musical theater. I dance Sunday through Thursday for about 4 hours each day. I am also a competitive dancer, I go to several competitions each year, as well as a national convention. Dance is my escape from everything. It helps me, just for that time, forget about everything going on in my life and just dance. The best part about dance is being able to put everything out on the dance floor. Wether it be pain, anger, sadness, or …show more content…
I am stronger because of dance, physically and mentally. Dance is my grip on reality when I feel like i'm losing myself. Dance is my identity. I don't know another place where I could go and truly be myself and always be accepted. When friends fail, dance is always there. I honestly believe that dance saved my life. Throughout my life I have struggled with my self esteem and identity, and I believe that dance is the only thing that has kept me from slipping into a dark place. It is my life raft in an ocean full of fear and doubt. I would not trade dance for anything. Wether it be an upbeat tap number, or a slow and emotional lyrical piece, dance makes me happy. The friends I have made at dance are friends I have known my whole life, and will continue to be my closest friends for a very long time. We are all very different, but the thing that brings us together is dance. Dance is something that brings everyone together, wether it is dancing for a school, studio, or just dancing to have fun. Dancing makes people feel something, wether they are actually performing it or just a member of the
Since the age of two, I have been dancing. I have been involved in lyrical and classical ballet, contemporary, pointe, hiphop, jazz and tap. When I turned 6 I also took up gymnastics. Through middle school I danced, and did gymanstics as well as softball and soccer. I loved these sports but when high school hit, I had to pick one and I chose cheerleading. I chose this sport because it was not only a extraordinary team athletically but they were extremely involved with the community. We had fundraisers for less fortunate children multiple times and even got to interact with them every winter. The leadership role on the cheer team taught me so much, we lead the entire student body to have school spirit and respect at the football games every friday night. My senior year I decided to switch back to dance and tried out for my high school dance team, and made it! It has been such a blessing to me by showing me even more leadership and how to serve others at our school and in the community.
According to Judith Hanna, “dance may promote wellness by strengthening the immune system through muscular action and physiological processes,” which shows that a person can benefit from dancing by allowing the body to do physical exercises which can allow the body to strengthen itself. In order to do this, there are multiple ways in which Judith Hanna focuses in on to show that dance can have a powerful impact on the body. She explains that there are four different ways in which a person can develop a since of control over their body by (1) possession dance, (2) mastery of movement, (3) escape or diversion from stress and pain through a change in emotion, states of consciousness/ physical capability and (4) confronting stressors to work through ways of handling their effects.
According to an article by Marjie Gilliam, titled “The many Health Benefits of Dancing,” dance offers a total body workout, using all of the major muscle groups and providing heart-healthy benefits. And that “the benefits can extend beyond fitness.” His study shows that, a recent study in the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine found that teaching the cha-cha to a small group of older adults twice a week for six months was enough to improve their memory and cognitive function on a number of tests. Research published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that ballroom dancing at least twice a week made people less likely to develop dementia (Marjie Gilliam). In my personal experience, dance helped improve my health because it is a form of physical activity. For example, in high school, I was in a dance club and we had to dance to hip hop. It required a lot of body movements and a lot of energy. I remember sweating a lot after an intense hip hop dance session. Moreover, through this dance club I lost weight and got more fit. Thus, dancing definitely benefits our health and keeps our body in shape. In kinesiology where health factors are also present, it is important to reflect that dance has shown many groups of people, past or present, the significance amount of movements it offers as well as health benefits ever since back in the
According to Martha Graham, “Dance is the hidden language of the soul.” To me, dancing is more than just a hobby, it is my life. My dance team is also more than just a team, it is my second family. Each girl on my team has her own unique personality, but somehow, we all get along well. We are all such good friends and have had to make it through many difficult situations already, but all it has done was bring us closer together. The girls on my team are all caring, talented, and funny.
There is something beautiful about dance, but there is something more beautiful about dancing with others. When a group of 13 girls and 1 boy can come together from 14 different ways of life and move together as one, then a dance team become more than just a dance team. This was not something that happened over night, it took time, effort and about 7 conversations with our coaches about our values. Without all of those components this team would have never became the successful, fighting, dream team that we became.
Dancers can’t just practice their routines in class and expect to perfect it. I set goals and I work hard for those goals no matter how tough they are to accomplish because I am determined and when I reach them it makes me feel good. Although dance means everything to me, it does take up a lot of my time and I never have time for anything else. Dance is not easy at all! I am sore most of the week just from dance.
Have you ever felt so lonely you just needed to find a way to comfort yourself, by doing something you love? For me, that comfort is dancing. According to research, dance is good for your emotional, physical, and psychological health. “Dancing can improve your mental health by boosting your overall happiness.” ~Huffington Post Dancing has always been a way for me to escape the world and everything going on in my life. I have found a love in dancing because of this. I’m very passionate about it. Not only that, but it runs through my genes. Therefore, when I took dance class, it changed me in many ways.
I hear many people say that dance shouldn’t be a sport, but it has a team just like any other sport. While either at a dance competition or just dancing in the studio, you depend on the other dancers to help you not only individually but also as a team. If one dancer messes up it will hurt the team in many ways, you might not do as well when you compete, or you might have to slow down. I know not everyone sees it the same way, but I think dance should be a sport.
Ever since I was young I have always loved to dance. Dance is a very social activity that also requires physical strength and endurance. I always feel happier when I dance because it’s a great way to boost endorphins and lower stress levels. Dance has also enabled me to grow as a person both physically and emotionally. I have been dancing competitively for six years now. Throughout those years I have had amazing opportunities to meet so many inspiring people and make lifelong friends. One of my favorite parts of dance is definitely being part of a team and going to competitions, it’s so much fun! At competitions, I always get the feeling that all of my hard work has paid off. Even though it is a competition the atmosphere is still outstanding as I am surrounded by enthusiastic people who all love the same things as me.
Oletha Reel, owner and head instructor at/of Diamond Dance Centre believes that dance is an art “It is an art because it is an expression of emotion and is considered something aesthetically pleasing and beautiful.” A dance may not always be permanent, but it is something that is beautiful and heartfelt. Dance is not forced and even though it cannot be put on display in a museum for hundreds of years, it can be remembered. Although, no dance is a replica of another which makes it special. Dance is very complex and emotional, you have to pick through the layers of it to get to the best
My most favorite activities include entertaining an audience. Dance has been a part of my life for years. A way to grow and prosper into a better individual, dance involves training and skill. Taking jazz, tap, ballet and lyrical, dance has been a safe home for me to go to in need. During school and outside of school at Robin Dawn Academy, dance helps me in distress as well as work to becoming a better athlete. Cheerleading is also one of my favorite activities as well. Joining my sophomore year, cheerleading involves stamina and practice. Learning how to stunt and cheer on my

Always makes the best out of worst by dancing yourself in and out of it.
