Cyberloafing: A Costly Problem
A significant focus in today's corporate culture is the ability to balance the stresses and demands of one's work as well as the stresses and demands of one's personal life. Though technology has assisted many in maximizing the efficiency of handling one's personal life, the business world, including global business and competition from global challengers has also put stresses and demands on the corporate players, such that "there are not enough hours in ones' day". Globalized business has also created a 24-hour business day, and the different global business cultures and practices have, in addition, created and enforced a 7 day work week in many industries. Cyberloafing has become a large problem in various companies. How does one company deal with so many employees going on the Internet, and not focusing on the work at hand? Some companies have banned certain websites, such as AOl and Chat rooms. There are even websites that have boards dedicated to complaining or talking about company issues, sort of "Airing Dirty Laundry". Team A believes it is important to keep

Beneficial had complete access. The questions the interviewer asked included statistics as well. Two the managers were able to provide research data that their companies actually did on cyber loafing. After compiling the pros and cons of the workplace café's, Team A was able to get an average of hours spent cyber loafing, averages on non-work hours spent in the cyber café and so on. The companies that did not allow any internet access stated that their employees would benefit from having a café that had internet access. Overall, the managers and the company that they worked for supported the idea of the cyber café within their workplace. Clearly, cyber loafing is a critical problem among businesses today and ways to control it is to put restrictions for accessing other sites or offer an internet café to employees before or after

The employment interview has been the key element used for determining a candidates’ worthiness in filling an open position. Organizations rely on employment interviews as a way to predict the future job performance and work-related personality traits of interviewees. Over the years validity of the employment interview has been under scrutiny, so it is no wonder that is has been the topic of many research papers. The definition of the employment interview is “a personally interactive process of one or more people asking questions orally to another person and evaluating the answers for the purpose of determining the qualifications of that person in order to make employment decisions” (Levashina, Hartwell, Morgeson, and Campion 2013, p. 243).
I found this article to be of great interest to myself because my work and life has revolved around telecommuting for the past several years. As the article indicates, “a telecommuter is anyone who works at least part of the time at home, in their cars, from clients’ offices, and/or in hotel rooms and telephone booths.” Although the article is somewhat dated (1995 to be exact), I feel that what Robert Moskowitz wrote about telecommuting back in 1995 still applies today. When I chose to go to work for ADP-Automatic Data Processing several years ago, I already had some previous work experience as a telecommuter. At the time, I had no idea that my current position would actually transition itself to a telecommuting position or as I would like to call it now, “a virtual office position.”
Because of the many benefits of telecommuting, it makes sense that most employers would support telecommuting. However, the research suggests that there are disadvantages to some companies that would prevent them from supporting teleworking.
Cyber loafing is using personal internet during working hours (Liberman, Seidman, Mckenna & Buffardi 2011, pp. 2192). Cyber loafing is one of the issues that employees need to deal with at work. Websen (cited in Vitak et.al 2011, p. 1751) claims that there is a huge loses in work productivity in the US that cost the companies milli...
A typical day for most people in today's world starts out with an early commute to work. People working in the city know what a hassle it is to deal with the many thousands of other trying to make their way to work. Dealing with long commutes and traffic congestion is a commonplace in today's fast-paced society. What if you had a chance to do most of your work at home? Would it be beneficial to you and your company? That is a common question one, which more and more companies are finding out is the future of business.

Telecommuting may be the movement of the future, which will allow more people to work away from the office. Many people see telecommuting as a way to be close to home or allow them to be connected to their organization while working abroad. While telecommuting might work for some people, telecommuting is not for everyone. There are many disadvantages; as well advantages to telecommuting which most people do not take into account. When considering telecommuting, the advantages fall for both employer and employee. The same can be said about the disadvantages of telecommuting.
The researcher had gained knowledge about the habit of cyberloafing, and how it affects the employees’ productivity and performance at the workplace and the different deviant behaviors that arise. Cyberloafing refers to be involved in non-work related Internet activities during work hours. This researched helped to sort out negative aspects of cyber loafing at work place, which will help the organization improve their policies to maintain a productive working environment and to limit off or block internet bandwidth in order to prevent cyber loafing which reduces or destroys system
The recent revolution of internet and dot-com boom has brought more people familiar to computers and the Internet. It seems like that we can hardly find our way through everyday life with out using or having an internet connected computer next to us. The way we think, live, and communicate was changed once for all with the invention of networked communication of computers. Computers are no longer a piece of machine that sits on top of our desk for us to admire the marvelous technology brought by the geeks and freaks of 80's, but for us to constantly use and put in to work. And in a way, environment which we live in, the society, schools, jobs, forces us to make friends with that technology. Just like when you don't have a telephone you will have hard time communicate with meeting with your friends, absence of instant messaging programs, or ability to use one, will place you out of the circle of events happening with the friends, or don't let you do the work as fast or as good as the one who uses the technology. This is one of the reasons why increasing number of people choose to have computers and internet as a prime communication tool not only between friends and for socialization, but for everyday life. People are increasingly finding new ways of getting things done not by the waiting at the other end of the phone line, but clicking the way through a certain web pages, or typing their message on emails and messenger program. On-line part of the business of almost all industries, not only limited to the dot-com companies but other 'traditional' businesses as well, has been increasingly finding it self positioning more valuable and growing in potential. We are all too familiar with the online shopping sites and class websites that we use almost everyday in a very handy way of getting things done.

When technology such as the computer was invented it was meant more for the use of making everyday tasks at work or home easier. The original inventors had no idea that one day there would be sites like Facebook with over a million users. Now when people are at work most of the time they do not pick up the phone and call down to another office or business. They sit on the computer and either send an email ...
First, they are violating a contract or policy regulation. This means corrective action can be taken by the organization and by the giving state. Even more, this will not only call for employment termination but also federal charges. The employee must recognize that violating the terms set by the organization will mean a breach of contract. When any person is involved in a breach of contract, they must face the consequences. Above all, the employees must know that this policy is intended to protect them as much as it is intended to protect the organization. The policy must state that the abuse of the internet while at work will damage everybody’s professional
...chniques and procedures among those associated with quantitative or qualitative research. A literature review, which included document analysis, was used to answer sub-questions one, two and three. A model building approach was suggested to answer sub-question four. In addition, the study uses a case study as a proof-of-concept. The use of a case study is a qualitative empirical study to strengthen the research validity. Since the research methods directly responding to the research questions (Literature review and Model building) make use of textual data, we classified this study as a qualitative study. Table 3.1 below summarises the classification of this study in terms of the dimensions discussed above.
Striating from the research idea to the culmination of the findings, the research process entails many segments, all of which are imperative. By choosing the research methodology, the researchers can formulate the path to be used in conducting the study and reporting the findings. The methodology helps in the search of literature, development of research questions and the creation of the most suitable study design. It also assists in the interpretation of the results and the publication of the findings in journals.
