Since, I belong to cultural minorities in this country (in Canada), I found it necessary to write a reflection paper on the topic about minority cultures. As far as I know, Canada takes the second place on multiculturalism after Switzerland. Multiculturalism is one of the aspects of tolerance, which consists in demanding the mixing of cultures for the purpose of their mutual penetration, enrichment and development in the universal human channel of mass culture. In fact, this requirement is put forward exclusively to the highly developed societies of Europe, which have long existed a high level of cultural development. Adherents of universal values require such societies to include in their cultural field elements of the cultures of alien peoples …show more content…
who were either colonized by the metropolitan country or simply in view of their near-geographical location, they love to illegally enter the countries with a high standard of living, looking for easier bread than at home. As a result, a complete destruction of the centuries-old cultural foundations and developed cultural traditions is obtained, since such mixing always leads to averaging. And if the low level of cultural development of aliens is undoubtedly increased, then there is nothing surprising in that the high level of culture of the target country of multiculturalism invariably falls. The homeland of this term is the United States, but a huge contribution to its study was made by Canadian scientists. It was in Canada that the question of "Quebec" was acute, and it was connected with the cultural differences of this province with most of the country. In particular, these are language differences (Quebec is considered a French-speaking province, and most Canadians use English). Language differences led to the problem of the integrity of the state (the province wanted to obtain sovereignty). To avoid mounting confrontation, the Canadian authorities announced a "multiculturalism policy" aimed at reaching a consensus between the government and Quebec. Its meaning was to respect the ethnic minority, the right to use the local language on an equal footing with the state language, in preserving traditions, etc. “As immigration has made democratic societies increasingly pluralist and multicultural, minority ethnic and cultural groups have argued not only that their individual members must be granted equal rights and protections, but also that groups themselves are entitled to recognized status and collective rights” (Smits, Katherine, 44). Secondly, I want to talk about human right. Cultural rights and freedoms are the subjective human rights in the cultural (spiritual, ideological) sphere, that is, certain possibilities of access to the spiritual achievements of their people and of all humanity, their assimilation, use and participation in their further development. The assertion and assurance of the human right to education in any country is one of the most important duties of the state.
This is due to the fact that education in today's globalized and informative world is increasingly becoming a decisive factor in social progress and national security, an important component of the full development of the human person, and increased respect for human rights and freedoms.
Today, it is quite obvious that without the necessary education, a person will not be able to provide himself with proper living conditions and be realized as a person, as well as to realize and protect his rights. High level of education of the population is an important factor that positively affects the creation of favorable conditions for the full realization of human and civil rights and freedoms. That’s why I am really happy, that Canada gives me one of the best education in the world, and with this knowledge I will be able to secure my life.
Moreover, Canada allows people to choose their own religion, speak their language and maintain their culture. Since I am Ukrainian, and Ukraine is Christian country with Eastern Orthodox background. Canada gives me the opportunity to go to the Orthodox Church and adhere to my beliefs and I can be sure that nobody will judge me for my religion. I hardly imagine how I would go to the Orthodox Church in other countries of the world, which adhere to another

belief. Thirdly, I am going to talk about gender quality namely feminism versus society.
At present women's issues have occupied a special place in periodicals, literature, and art. In spite of the fact that both international and national legislative acts proceed from the principle of equality, in practice women do not enjoy equal rights in public life and activities. There is a pronounced contradiction between the new needs and the lack of conditions in society for their satisfaction: the social consciousness of women increases, they no longer satisfy the stereotype of social roles imposed on them, where the family and motherhood are the only values. The answer to the existing contradictions is women's movements. I'm not an adherent of feminism because I do not think that at the moment women have less rights than men. Several decades ago, there really was a division between men and women, while women were without humane rights. In modern society, all women have the right to vote, the right to choose and have the same rights as men, hence the movement itself as feminism in my opinion is not relevant in the 21st century. Yes, women did not make such a significant contribution to science or literature, like men. But do not forget that in the world there was and there is a sufficient number of women scientists or writers who managed to create something unique, capable of creating their own small revolution in the minds of many people. Hence, they are worthy of respect and recognition
of merit. In conclusion, Canada is one of the best countries for minority cultures, where you will feel yourself like at home and very cozy. This is a place where you can be yourself, but I think that multiculturalism has both pluses and minuses. Serious cultural conflicts can lead the country to isolation. An illustration of this can be found in Armenia, which is economically isolated due to the local mountain landscape and conflicts with Muslim Turkey and Azerbaijan on the grounds of the Armenian Genocide. The concept of multiculturalism implies the recognition of rights for ethnic and cultural groups. Sometimes there is no more humane solution than giving autonomy or independence to an ethnic group if conflicts are extremely difficult to resolve. Multiculturalism promotes the development of friendly relations between countries, and hence the development of their economies. A positive example is the relationship between Turkey and Germany. In Germany, more than 3 million Turks live. This factor played an important role in the development of economic and political relations between Turkey and Germany. Today Germany is the main exporter of Turkey, and Germany sees Turkey as a key link in strengthening partnership relations with Islamic states.
... presence of religious diversity amongst the multiculturalist scene, multiculturalism and its relationships to ethnocultureal minorities, Quebec’s reasonable accommodation as well as the overlap of Aboriginal and multiculturalism issues, require research and development. This speak volumes about Banting and Kymlicka, as it places their work on a larger spectrum that will one day be surrounded by other impressive works that may compliment or challenge their findings. Canadian multiculturalism is completely different than what takes place in different countries. It goes without saying that not every picture can be painted with the same type of brush because the world is not full of the same picture that has a white washed idealized understanding. With that being said, the problems in other countries are not inherent to the multiculturalism picture in other countries.
According to citizen and immigration Canada statistics, (Immigrating to Canada, 2009), each year, Canada welcomes more than 200,000 new immigrants. It creates a diverse of multiple nationalities. Most immigrants from Europe or their descendants have religious backgrounds which respect universal fraternity. Also the multiculturalism makes Canada a "melting pot" for every member in the "pot". People respect each other and live together peacefully. People with different backgrounds live together peacefully without discrimination.
Multiculturalism in Canada is actually a beautiful element. Through different texts such as “I am not racist” and “I’m a Banana and proud of it” multiculturalism may not be a beautiful thing after all. The stereotyping, that is describing people shape, colour and language they speak. In Canada, stereotyping and racism occurs even if we think it’s not as we are multicultural country.
“Multiculturalism” entered public speech in the late 1960s and early 1970s in Canada that focused on unique cultural diversity, nationalities, and ethnicity across the nation. Multiculturalism and Immigration are important factors in the development of Canada to attain a strong multicultural example of economic stability, social and political growth which leads to the emergence of Canada’s identity and culture.
Multiculturalism policy was first adopted in Canada in 1971, which reaffirms the dignity and value of all its citizens regardless of ethnic origins, race, religious affiliations, or language. Part of this policy, Canada confirms the rights of all the aboriginals along with the recognition of two official languages. Indeed, multiculturalism has great importance since its main purpose is to give equal treatment to all the citizens (Daniel, 2010). It ensures that all individual citizens could still maintain their identities, and have pride with their ancestry. Through this initiative, the Canadian government was able to give their citizens a feeling of self-confidence, making them more open to their diverse cultures. The multiculturalism policy
Nowadays, when concepts of integrity, complexity, and globalization play a huge role in shaping our society, a concept of multiculturalism is common and widely accepted by most countries in the world, including Canada. According to Statistics Canada, as of January 2014, an estimate of Canadian population exceeded 35 million people and 20.6% of the total population are immigrants from other countries (Statistics Canada, 2014). These figures mean that on average every fifth person living in Canada was born in another country. This is especially relevant for Province of British Columbia, where, according to BC Stats, the population estimate equals to 4.6 million people as of July 2013 and BC was named one of the three Canadian provinces that accept most immigrants from all over the world (BC Stats, 2014). Unfortunately, the most recent demographics research on British Columbia population available was made in 2006. However, those numbers can still help to evaluate proportions of different ethnicities living in BC right now. As of Canada 2006 Cencus, minority population equaled to 24.8% and 10% of those immigrants were Chinese. Chinese people represent the biggest immigration minority in British Columbia, followed by South Asian (6.4%) and Filipino (2.2%) (Chui, 2006). While being the biggest diaspora in BC, Chinese population keeps growing as new working and studying opportunities provided by federal and provincial governments. The main aim of this research is to 4study historical reasons that led to given nowadays demographics. This paper is going to try to support an argument that historical events happened in Canada in the past and involved Chinese immigrants, especially the building of Canadian Pacific Railway, had a positive eff...
Justin Trudeau's assertion that Canada lacks a "singular, dominant cultural identity" has ignited a profound debate about the nature of Canadian unity. Trudeau adheres to an inclusive and diverse approach. While his statement intended to promote a vision of diversity free of hierarchy, it was interpreted differently. Canada’s strong emphasis on multiculturalism stems from its heritage as a British colony, and its linguistic commitment is vital to Canadian nationalism. The coexistence of various cultural backgrounds and its ongoing efforts to foster inclusivity advocates for the recognition of all identities.
For hundreds of years, women are fighting a war of inequality in the male dominated society. Heather Savigny addressed a very important question in her article, what is Feminism? By definition, “Feminism” is a moment started by women to end inequality in all fields of society. Women in the society started this protest to gain rights that were deprived by the males in the society. A feminist can be a normal person who fights against the discrimination on based on sex, age and gender. The feminist movement is very important in our society, to protect women for sexual harassment and violence. To fight this problem, and to find a possible way to end it, many great writers wrote very influential poems and stories. A very few writers who chose to
Multiculturalism is a significant fabric of Canadian society that defines its unique identity among the rest of the world. Enactment of the Canadian multicultural policy (1971) affirmed government position and recognition of multiculturalism as a vital element of Canada. It is imperative to understand that multiculturalism is a static concept that keeps changing overtime and has a multidimensional entity. Canadians have always and will continue to revise the concept of multiculturalism to suit the ever expanding needs of Canadian society. In this paper, I will evaluate the reasons behind Canada’s adoption of multicultural policy and assess whether the policy should be maintained or not. I will defend the thesis that Canada’s multiculturalism
Inside the Charter contains fundamental freedoms, which are the foundation for Canadian rights and freedoms such as freedom of religion and association. Add to this equality rights; which ensures the same treatment of all Canadians regardless of age, sex, race, etc. Together these allows Canadians to freely choose their religion and not be discriminated because of it. But some people in Quebec want to restrict the extent as to which immigrants can represent their culture and religion. This is because they think their culture will be shrunk in comparison to the influx of immigrants; but they are forgetting about the Charter while doing so. Immigrants must be granted the same rights and freedoms as Canadian Citizens, even if it makes Quebec culture smaller. To conclude our first point it is unjust to only uphold the Charter to certain people even if it makes Quebec culture a minority because every Canadian should be protected under the Charter of Rights and

Growing up with a diverse community makes you realize that Canada is growing and slowly becoming a Multicultural society. Multiculturalism as stated in the textbook, is defined as allowing and accepting different cultures and providing them encouragement and support to keep their culture and diverse traditions (Mintz et al. 2015, 34). In 1971, Canada became the first country in the world to adapt the official policy of multiculturalism. (Government of Canada. “Canadian Multiculturalism: An Inclusive Citizenship” 2012). Canada grants all residents of Canadian citizens regardless of their “racial or ethnic origins, their language, or their religious affiliation”. (Government of Canada. “Canadian Multiculturalism: An Inclusive Citizenship”
Cultural issues are complicated and difficult to solve. Each society has their own custom in culture, it touches the heart of the people, their values, their beliefs, and their way of life. Many people felt the frequent exposure to foreign products such as movies, music, and periodicals will have a detrimental effect on their own cultural identity (Globalization101, n.d). As a result, in 1995 the Canadian government imposed a tax levy of 80% on the ad revenues in response to Time Warner’s split-runs magazines – Sports Illustrated (Maclean, 1999). This led to a trade dispute between the U.S and Canada.
Women have not been sleeping when it came to their rights. However, women have not been able to anything about their rights for several reasons. For example, the role of women was to take care of the home while the husband was winning bread for the family. In addition to this, very few women could read and write, and therefore, they did not have the means to express themselves, or to start organized actions. With the rise of equality of all men and democracy by the end of the eighteenth century, the cause of women started, particularly in the year 1792 when the first feminist publication was written by Mary Wollestonecraft, a British woman who was devoted to the cause of liberating women from their chains. The famous publication was known as the vindication of the rights of women. According to this publication which is the first organized step towards women’s liberation, the aim of women’s movements would be to eliminate the sexual discrimination against women on the political, economic and social level, so that women would have equal rights to men (Grolier, 1).
