We learned the importance of last mile delivery as a part of the distribution in chapter 11, Global supply chain procurement and distribution. Distribution encompasses all channels, processes, and functions including warehouse and transportation, that product pass through on its way to the final customer.

DHL is one of the leading companies in the logistics industry, DHL believes in investing in innovation and GoGreen to have low carbon emissions and other environmental impacts. As a part of innovation and GoGreen drive, DHL has introduced a solution to address the last mile delivery by the use of “Cubicycle”. The above video will help to understand how DHL van delivers the trailer into the city center, where the containers are then loaded on to two Cubicyles for last-mile inner-city delivery. It can then be reloaded for outbound shipments. DHL is delivering 60 % of parcels by Cubicycle in of some the cities. McDonald had a system to handle the high volume of the customer, but for very few products in 1980. The people become mobile and looking for the more options for lunch and dinner, to overcome these challenges, McDonald designed and implemented new just in time kitchens. These kitchens are the technological overhaul of their previous system designed to improve food quality allow menu items to be more easily introduced and to provide superior customer service.
