It is a violation of children’s rights, abuse to their well-being and denies them the opportunity to reach their full potential. When kids become trapped in a trafficking ring, their best interest is no longer being looked after. They can be forced to perform sexual deeds that could be considered horrendous to most; this said abuse can be categorized as sexual abuse. Not only will the children suffer but, the families that the children were pulled from will suffer in the loss of their loved ones. Despite the emotional toll that is placed on the children and families, some researchers have gained knowledge on the nature of child trafficking. While little was known about child trafficking profit margins as well as magnitude in which it was accruing. The International Labor Organization’s conducted a study in 2002 estimating that 1.2 million children are being trafficked each year and profits ranging upwards towards 32 million dollars are being made (Female genital mutilation/cutting). In order to understand how sex trafficking affects its victims, one must first know the severity of sex trafficking and what it is. The issue of sex trafficking affects 2.5 million people at any given time (Abas et al., 2013). The form of sex slavery affects many women and children across the world. Even though both males and females are sexually trafficked and exploited, there is a deep emphasis on the sexual exploitation of women and children. This is due to gender discrimination (Miller, 2006). This is because women and children are more vulnerable and appeal to the larger populations of brothels and the so-called “clients” since the majority are men. Ecclestone (2013) stated that children as young as age three are trafficked. Sex trafficking has changed over time; “Today, the business of human sex trafficking is much more organized and violent. These women and young girls are sold to traffickers, locked up in rooms or brothels for weeks or months, drugged, terrorized, and raped repeatedly” (Walker-Rodriguez & Hill, 2011). It is found that many of the victims of sex trafficking are abducted, recruited, transported and forced into involuntary “sex work”. These sexual acts include prostitution, exotic dancing, pornography, and sexual escort services (McClain & Garrity, 2011). What happens to these sex trafficking victims is extremely traumatizing.
Human trafficking is a form of slavery, forcing victims to engage in sexual activities and labors against their will. These activities can be taken place through force, fraud, or constraint. Human trafficking is not just affecting one group of people, it is a worldwide issue, affecting all different ages, genders, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds. Human trafficking is such an immense problem, apprehending the true size, knowing how to help, and how to keep the issue from reoccurring. Human trafficking is and is still becoming such a serious issue that something needs to be done about.

Human trafficking is a topic that is not discussed very often in society. Many people fail to realize that human trafficking still exists today. Human trafficking violates basic human rights. It takes away the freedom and security of men, women, and children world wide. The diversity and widespread execution of human trafficking make it difficult to regulate and prosecute.
Family violence encompasses child abuse, intimate partner violence, and elder abuse. Each of these forms of abuse can include psychological, physical, and sexual components (Fife, 2012). Family violence is not discriminate towards one type of individual; instead it crosses all socioeconomic, demographic, educational, and religious boundaries.

A four year old girl lays on the floor unconscious after her mother beat her because she put a dish away in the wrong spot. She wakes up and feels the burns of the cigarettes on her and the feeling of a broken rib in her body. This abuse has been going on since she was a baby, but this was one of the first times that she would actually be able to have memory of. If she does one thing wrong, something very bad happens everytime. Sometimes it’s a beating and sometimes she is put in a closet with a wire fence bound around her and it is locked in place with chains. She will never be able to forget these terrible memories.
