The next morning I arrive early to school. I pull out a notebook, lean against a wall and start to draw; people-watching feels less weird when I'm drawing them. I'm doing better at avoiding the Jinn gazes. I cannot let them know I can see them, and I was not being careful yesterday. Classes haven't even started yet, but I've already learned a lot. The Jinn apparently like to tag along with certain people. They constantly mutter commentary, as if dictating their thoughts. Most of the time they're able to direct their actions just with a few simple words. But most of them aren't overly bossy, as much as just being there, leaving a faint fingerprint on everything. I realize I can't try to avoid them as they come toward me. If I keep my gaze focused straight ahead, they usually dart around me at the last second. "They don't take breaks." I say quietly, glancing around at the real offenders. The ones that only I can see. "You're really pensive." Kenna says, tilting her head. "What are you thinking?" "You've been watching me?" I ask, smiling. She blushes and tucks a piece of hair behind her ear. "Well, I was worried. I mean, you were really freaked out yesterday, and..." She trails off. "Did you really punch the hall monitor?" She asks abruptly. The way she says it, is like she totally doesn't believe it, but just has to make sure. "How did you hear about that?" I ask surprised. "What? It's true?" She says, somewhere between a laugh and a squeak. "It wasn't my fault. He snuck up on me and scared the living daylights out of me." "Oh my gosh Liam! That's terrible!" She begins laughing. "You're laughing? Really? How could you Kenna? I mean- honestly- the poor
