The next morning I arrive early to school. I pull out a notebook, lean against a wall and start to draw; people-watching feels less weird when I'm drawing them. I'm doing better at avoiding the Jinn gazes. I cannot let them know I can see them, and I was not being careful yesterday. Classes haven't even started yet, but I've already learned a lot. The Jinn apparently like to tag along with certain people. They constantly mutter commentary, as if dictating their thoughts. Most of the time they're able to direct their actions just with a few simple words. But most of them aren't overly bossy, as much as just being there, leaving a faint fingerprint on everything. I've heard the name Tetra come up again, but all I can figure is that he's the …show more content…
I realize I can't try to avoid them as they come toward me. If I keep my gaze focused straight ahead, they usually dart around me at the last second. Since they are see-through and can pass through walls like it's nothing, I wonder why they make the effort to avoid people? "Watch it!" someone shouts right before I stumble over a girl sitting on the floor. "Sorry-sorry." I mumble, backing away apologetically. This is ridiculous trying to keep everything straight; who do I walk around and who do I pretend like they don't even exist? This is going to take some work. I turn a corner and walk straight through a Jinni girl. It's the first time I've ever touched a Jinni, and I suddenly experience a hot flash. My skin prickles in an instant sweat. I can hear her sputtering from behind me. Apparently it was worse for her, or she has a pretty low tolerance. Either way, it wasn't very pleasant for either of us. That must be why they avoid touching us. I try to straighten up and continue walking like nothing is wrong. Once I get far enough away, I dare to glance back and see who I just ran …show more content…
I hadn't noticed her so close to me. She stoops down and picks up my books from the lawn. "I don't blame them. I've been wanting to rip this thing apart myself." I say, holding up the shredded backpack, before dropping it into the nearest garbage can. "You'd think they'd give you a break; considering, everything that's happened the last couple of days." "They don't take breaks." I say quietly, glancing around at the real offenders. The ones that only I can see. "You're really pensive." Kenna says, tilting her head. "What are you thinking?" "You've been watching me?" I ask, smiling. She blushes and tucks a piece of hair behind her ear. "Well, I was worried. I mean, you were really freaked out yesterday, and..." She trails off. "Did you really punch the hall monitor?" She asks abruptly. The way she says it, is like she totally doesn't believe it, but just has to make sure. "How did you hear about that?" I ask surprised. "What? It's true?" She says, somewhere between a laugh and a squeak. "It wasn't my fault. He snuck up on me and scared the living daylights out of me." "Oh my gosh Liam! That's terrible!" She begins laughing. "You're laughing? Really? How could you Kenna? I mean- honestly- the poor
“Why are you here?” Violet asks. Then I see her eyes land on my outfit. Her amber eyes widened. “Oh. That makes sense. Did you really get confused for me?”
"I-I'm not afraid! Actually, I'm going to go see what it was." She turned and marched to the door, looked back with a snooty look, and walked into the room.
“What are you doing?” She screamed at the top of her lungs. Acknowledging her comment, I look her directly in the
" I laugh and then rub her shoulder softly. "I love you." She whispers and dips her head down to meet my
The Creature That Opened My Eyes Sympathy, anger, hate, and empathy, these are just a few of the emotions that came over me while getting to know and trying to understand the creature created by victor frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. For the first time I became completely enthralled in a novel and learned to appreciate literature not only for the great stories they tell but also for the affect it could have on someones life as cliché as that might sound, if that weren’t enough it also gave me a greater appreciation and understanding of the idiom “never judge a book by its cover.” As a pimply faced, insecure, loner, and at most times self absorbed sophomore in high school I was never one to put anytime or focus when it came time
"What! Ok, this is weird, I'm gonna go now." She says, turning around and only taking two steps before my creation stops her in her tracks, she screams and runs towards me. I grab her by the arm right before she goes past me. She stops and looks at me, my hair stained red with the blood of her friends, my gray sweatshirt in the same condition.
“Sorry, it was wrong of me to do that to you.” Malvinas murmured after a long silence.
Last night I heard you crying and I went to your room. You asked me to stay with you and don't ever leave you." He explained with a hurt expression. "I--I--okay. Fine."
"What were you saying?" She says truthfully. She did not hear to a word her friend had said. She was too focused on reading a scene from her book. Anna sighs.
“So why would you think I was?” “I..I don’t... I just... I... I’m sorry...
The person didn’t respond, walking towards us faster with the light still blinding us. We finally saw a lady. She had several people behind her holding up pitchforks and knives. “Spiders! I told you to go away and not harm my family!”
"I'm not feeling well today. Maybe you should just go alone." She kept a placid expression on her face, knowing full well she was lying, and it might show.
“Yuki, are you sure you’re everything it okay? You’re getting her late, ever since last week.” Rin says to me, snapping me out of my
Oh hey Sar." Evie greets her entwining our fingers together. "When were you planning to tell me that you have a totally hot boyfriend?" Sarah asks with a fake obnoxious teen girl voice, raising her arms in he air for emphasis. That made me blush along Genevieve.
"You're right, brother. I messed up," he admitted. His words weren't an apology but a fact. He'd been a fool to believe there would be something going on between the doppelgangers.
