There once was a bottle named Honey who lived in Bottle Town. He had a huge family consisting of ten siblings. Everyone in his family only cared for money but luckily he was the only one who decided to move away with nothing on his hands. His father and mother never looked up for their children so all of Honey’s brothers and sisters took care of themselves. The day Honey decided to leave he explained, “I’m sorry for leaving but I cannot live here anymore. I am planning on coming back but I need some time alone somewhere where no one knows me!” He cried from guiltiness.
Time passed and Honey had a moderate house, job and great love for his family. After time was consumed Honey motioned that the time had come for him to go back. Days later Honey received a call from his brother saying that he had decided to leave Bottle Town and for a period of time he was going to live with him. He explained to Honey that he had been threatened by some person who wanted the money he did not have available. His brother was extremely scared and didn’t know what else to do. A day after, Sammy, Honey’s brother, arrived at the door crying. They hugged and asked each other about their health. After a brief conversation Sammy said that he had not talked to anyone about the threat and that he wasn’t expecting anyone to find out since he knew that no one was going to believe him. Sammy said, “Honey, I am so sorry to have arrived

here to you and invading your space, but it was a harsh decision since my life was in danger. I’m sorry.”
Honey looked away trying to look brave but his eyes were filled with tears. “Sammy, you did reasonably right to come here. You were in danger! You should have come here since the very beginning. You did right in leaving Bottle Town and going somewhere else where no one knows you and no one can judge you.”
Sammy started crying and ran with despair. He was frightened; he didn’t know if someone had seen him flee the town during the night. He was paranoid and only thought he was being spied on by everyone as a fugitive. Honey felt horrible but he stayed by his brother’s side contemplating him. After some time Honey left the room declaring that he had to make a couple of calls.
But life is not a fairytale. Standing there lonely, having no job is our Sammy. This is when Sam realizes his path, the true way to become mature. The moment when “Lengel sighs and begins to look very patient:” Sammy, you don’t want to do this to your mom and dad” (Updike) hold him back a little bit, we can feel the regret in his heart. But he cannot go back anymore, decision has been made. He gives up his last chance; from now on, he’s on his own. Sammy finally understands that it is responsible behavior but not playing “adult-like” game that will make him a true
Now that Sammy has chosen to become a juvenile delinquent, he realizes "how hard the world was going to be" for him in the future. He has left a life of safety and direction for one of the complete opposite, and he must be willing to accept the responsibilities of his actions, no matter the consequences.

He leaves, with a clean consciousness, but the burden of not knowing what the future has in store. This story represents a coming-of-age for Sammy. Though it takes place over the period of a few minutes, it represents a much larger process of maturation. From the time the girls enter the grocery store, to the moment they leave, you can see changes in Sammy. At first, he sees only the physicality of the girls: how they look and what they wear, seem to be his only observations.

When the man first approached the dinner the waitress though he was like anybody else suffering from the great depression just trying to get things for free from people. At the beginning the man just walked to the dinner with a humble self being, asking to buy a loaf of bread. Immediately the waitress Mae being a stereotype and thinking he was trying to trick her said that the bread was for making sandwiches only. In response the man says that he needs the bread to feed his children because it’s a long road ahead of them to California. The waitress then tells him that if they sell bread their going run out to make sandwiches. The man then tells her that he’s hungry but needs to make a dime do all of his family. This gets Mae to change her reaction and change her mind because she’s starting to feel more and more sympathy fo...
...hose this story for the shear fact that I saw a lot of the same emotions and happenings in my life, but also a lot of unfortunate mistakes on the characters part which made me scratch my head and wonder. "How can you be so stupid and in denial of how one event leads to another, and to see how careless your actions are?" The story closes with Sammy coming to the realization of how his life will change, "My stomach fell as I felt how hard the world was going to be to me here-after." To one reading the story that was Sammy coming to terms with his rash actions awhile fully understanding the consequences.

We are taken through a journey as we learn of an Old man who sits at a cafe alone at night. The Old man is deaf, and had recently tried to commit suicide although he is a pleasant customer; the two waiters must watch him to ensure that he doesn't get too drunk, because he will leave without paying. As the two waiters in the cafe play close attention to the Old man the Younger waiter is clearly upset because the Old man will most likely be staying all night, and he is anxious to go home and see his wife. The Younger waiter wonders why it is that the Old man tried to kill himself and says to the deaf Old man that he should have killed himself last week, but the Old man simply asks for more brandy. After going back to the table where the two waiters had been sitting together, he asks the Older waiter why the Old man tried to kill himself. However, the Older waiter was not certain and replied by stating that it was because of despair and that he tried to hang himself and was found and cut down by his niece.
