Beep! Beep! Beep! My alarm went. Oh no! Time to get up already. It was 4:00 in the morning the day the 5th and 6th grade was sailing to Catalina island. I shuffled to the breakfast table, barely able to keep my eyes open, and slowly chewed bite after bite. In a few minutes I got up threw on my jacket, grabbed my duffle bag and headed to school. Then I got to school a little early and waited with my friends for everyone to get there. Everyone showed up and we started driving to the boat. After a long drive we finally got there. By that time, I was practically bursting with excitement. Then I jumped out and stretched my legs. I went and sat down by the wall with everyone. We sat there for a long time before we got to board the boat. Now inside the boat, we dropped off our bags in a little circle. Then we went over to some little couches by the wall and sat there talking. A little while later we went to the bow of the boat. While we were there we kept tripping, and falling over each other. Then we went top deck, finding Jike throwing up in his hand. Poor Jike! A short while later the people on the boat got out manta rays for us to pet. They were very silky, but we had to watch out for their spikey tails. About four hours later we arrived at Catalina. Wow! Time flew, I thought. “Were …show more content…
As I arrived there with Ellie we went inside a kid’s room to hide from the other group that was outside the door. The kid threatened us with a broom and told us to get out of his cabin. Luckily Hanna came and told Mrs. Ambrose who explained to the kid that he had gotten mixed up and that his cabin was on the other side. Moments later, still a little shaken we were in the cafeteria eating dinner. The next thing I knew Mrs. Hattie was choking on a garbanzo bean. Thankfully Mr. Kunch knows CPR and saved her. Afterward I climbed into the top bunk in the tiny cabin. I curled up in a ball and fell into a deep
“Hey Izel turn right right here so we can go to Mauna Kea,” I said
“ Ya I guess you are right”. Jack said. He sadly wrapped himself in a bear hug with his grandpa .
Located in the popular Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in California. Every year, mother nature’s breathtaking beauty attracts millions of people from around the world. People hike for three long and fatiguing hours in anticipation of witnessing forceful water rushing down the steep mountain from 2,425 feet above. Last summer, my family and I backpacked through the Yosemite Falls Trail and I came to learn what a truly exhausting experience it is.
The Creature That Opened My Eyes Sympathy, anger, hate, and empathy, these are just a few of the emotions that came over me while getting to know and trying to understand the creature created by victor frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. For the first time I became completely enthralled in a novel and learned to appreciate literature not only for the great stories they tell but also for the affect it could have on someones life as cliché as that might sound, if that weren’t enough it also gave me a greater appreciation and understanding of the idiom “never judge a book by its cover.” As a pimply faced, insecure, loner, and at most times self absorbed sophomore in high school I was never one to put anytime or focus when it came time
We walked down into the bustling docks, stinking of long dead fish and seaweed. We walked past the decreped old fishing boats and their owners, all with rotting wooden lobster pots and old rope nets. The huge ship was moared in the harbour, its ancient gangplank rested lightly on the hole filled pier. Mr Cheese, our navigator, stood at the top polishing his peg leg, while Meet-Hook stood behind working on yet another wax painting. Otis and Carla ran up the gangplank and began to load the crates of sugar and cotten from the plantations into the hold.
The trees are big, leaves flowing in the wind, soft sand on your feet and the best of all the shining blue water of Maui,Hawaii full of underwater plants and mysterious creatures. Although, Hawaii can be scary deep down, deep in the wild that is unknown and undiscovered.
The morning could not come early enough for young Charles, who awoke before anyone else in the small cabin had roused from sleep. At first light, he noticed that the sky was dark and dreary when he returned from the outhouse. Bluish-black, weighty clouds hung low on the horizon and thunder rumbled in the distance. In his mind, Charles saw him and his mother walking through a storm- it was thundering and lightning; rain fell so heavily, they could barely see five feet in front of them. Crestfallen, Charles surely thought it was going to be a stormy, rain-swept day as he waited on the front porch for his mother to wake and the sun to continue rising. When it did, the dark clouds dissipated and the sky turned brilliant blue. A very mild breeze blew; with it, it carried a bouquet of honeysuckle, Ligustrum, and crepe jasmine… It was going to be a beautiful day on the mountain; Charles smiled.
“Why are you obsessing over it so much?! He’s dead to us and to this city! Going beyond the city limits is certain death. God knows what’s out there, just waiting to kill you.”
It was time to go on the bus. The big bus would take us to the ATV cars. It seemed to be a windy, breezy day. I could feel the wind splat on my face as my hair got crazy. Within the forty-group, it included my cousins and most of my family friends who we hung out with. This experience was never going to happen again, so I tried to make the most of it. The weather was exquisite, the clear blue sky, the breezy wind, and the blazing, warm weather. As all the kids chatted and enjoyed the ride, we ate small snacks, such as goldfish and cookies. It was the best thing since sliced bread that we ate because I would have got really hungry. The cookies tasted like a little round piece of heaven, as the goldfish was like a rainbow of flavors on your tongue that combined deliciously. I jumped up and down with adrenaline, as we reached closer to our destination. The ride was about twenty-five minutes. Everyone was
We rounded the corner from the deep blue ocean of the South Pacific through the narrow entrance into the atoll surrounding a beautiful French Polynesian island. I had gotten used to reciting my duties in my head—making sure the switches were turned on, monitoring the navigation system, and preparing the ropes for entry—but would sneak quick glances at the view as much as I could. I had never seen anything like it, but navigating through the shallow water to find a safe anchorage for the night was no easy task and I needed to stay focused. After the anchor was lowered into the pristine blue water, as a member of the crew, it was my duty to dive off the boat and check to make sure the anchor had been set.
It felt like hours that she was crying, but it was only minutes. The planchette hadn’t moved one little bit since she started this experiment. Sleet and rain still pelted the windows but it was definitely slackening. The chill in the room was diminishing and she could feel warmth returning to her skin. None of the incantations Viviana had given her worked.
Sora leaned back on the side of the Mysterious Tower, an enigmatic building reaching so high, it scraped the bottom of clouds. A thought swirled in his head as his eyes rested on the cream orange sky. 'I wonder if those are okay, Aqua and Terra.' He suddenly sat up. "Terra and Aqua...why did I think of them just now?"
“Look! think I see the cabin!” Ben Halperin looked up from his Warriors book to his sister Lily's’ call. He could see the cabin he and his family would be staying at for the next week, between two mountains on a ridge in the distance. “Mom, are we going out for dinner tonight?” Ben asked his mom “Sure honey, whatever you want.”
(Talking To Myself) “What should I write about?” “ I should write about my trip to Hawaii, Nah!! that ‘s too boring” “Ooh-- I should write about Mike, that might help me get my grades up and I should probably change his name to John or something like that” “So let’s get started”
This is it. The moment that decides my fate. Stones stretch before my feet, disappearing in the distance under the reflection of the sky. Water ripples as I take a breath and slide my foo into the lake’s edge. Perfectly polished rocks of all different sizes and colors lay before me, each a symbol of the choice I will make.
