This strategy ensures that the goals set are in fact, achievable, and that tasks can be completed as a result. Setting unrealistic goals can lead to failure to complete tasks and as a result, a reduction in morale, productivity and time management. To ensure goals are realistic, ensure they are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-Bound). SMART goals are clear and well defined goals. They are goals that are obtainable, action-orientated, and rewarding in addition to being results-orientated, trackable and time bound. In the workplace, writing a list of all tasks to be completed can allow you to visually determine which task requires most attention. Once tasks have been identified in order of importance, allocating a time frame in which to work exclusively on a task, will help in maintaining good time management and performance. Determining times of less distraction is important to consider and to allow for contingencies when it comes to prioritising. Re-prioritising may be required at times. Scheduling time for rejuvination and relaxation is imperitive to good mental and physical health. Fatigue, moodiness and frequent illness can be a result of poor stress management which is why looking after your health and well being is important in the workplace in terms of time and performance. Strategies of stress management include decreasing or discontinuing caffeine, regularly exercise, do activities that enable you to relax and recharge, have quality sleep and take time out where necessary. Having realistic expectations and focusing on a positive attitude are also ways to manage stress in addition to cultivating a great support system around you. Looking at my own approach to time management I have noticed that I am well organised and good at prioritising tasks and jobs. When I log onto my computer to start my shift I am sent down numerous jobs, each job is different and has different deadlines for attendance and completion. I plan my day based around the date and time deadlines of the jobs and also the locations of the jobs. Goal setting is key in motivation; goals need to be clear, sharp, and realistic. To make these feel more achievable it is better to break these down into smaller medium-term goals and medium-term goals into short-term goals so that you have a clear connection between what one does every day and their long-term goals.
Addressing job stress is not only the responsibility of the organization. Individuals must also share the responsibility for dealing with stress that is affecting them. They must be willing to take care of themselves through leading healthy lifestyles including eating a balanced diet, exercising, and taking advantage of stress reductions techniques and therapies which could include yoga, meditation or aromatherapy.
Do not procrastinate. Choose a task and start working on it. Delaying a task will only make it that much hard to get started. Commit yourself to working on the task for a specific amount of time each day until it is completed.
Prioritize- by prioritizing your work tasks correctly you can ensure the most important jobs are being done followed by the others in ascending order. Urgency doesn't mean importance so you can assess whether something can wait whilst you finish working on something that is more important. This can also go beyond simply working out which is most important but also what can be done when. Delegation can also be seen as an aspect of prioritization in that if you can have someone else do certain tasks whilst you address more important ones. Set performance goals- setting performance goals allows you to track progress you are making on a task/project.
Once you have your plan, you start working on it to achieve these goals. Start with today, what can you do, then next week, next month, six months, one year, five years and start moving towards them. If your goal is to big you will become discouraged and feel like you are not making any progress keep them

Stress has become part of everyday life especially within the western world and particularly in the work place. Stress from work is as a result of workers reacting negatively and harmfully to the demands, pressures, targets, expectations and demands placed on them at work. Every worker more especially professionals essentially need some measure of stress in their lives to meet the challenges of life each day, but if it is steady or acute, it becomes dangerous to health. According to the latest estimates from the Labour Force Survey, the total number of cases of stress in 2011/12 was 428 000 (40%) out of a total of 1 073 000 for all work-related illnesses 2 (http://www.hse.gov.uk). Stress, specifically work related stress, can be a significant cause of illness and comes with high levels of sickness absence, low productivity, staff turnover, increased errors, lack of concentration and other issues. Stress must be controlled, understood, managed and reasonably minimised. There are different strategies and therapies available help people relax, cope and manage stress.
Goal setting is one of the most important tasks that anyone will complete because it helps measure your progress for your life. There three types of goals, short, intermediate and long term. Short term want to be obtained anywhere from 1 day to 3 months, intermediate goals reach from 3 to 6 months and long term goals are set for 6 months and beyond long term is anything that wants to be accomplished.
These goals need to be “SMART”. SMART goals is a term George Doran used in an article he posted called “There’s a S.M.A.R.T. Way to Write Management’s Goals and Objectives. This acronym stands for Specific, Measurable, Aggressive, Realistic, Time-Bound (Doran, 35-36). If a manager gives an employee a task, but it does not meet the “SMART” requirements, there is a strong chance the employee will not be able to reach that goal in an efficient way. The manager needs to make sure the goal is specific. If the goal is not clearly stated, or if the goal is misunderstood by the employee, then it may not be accomplished. The goal must also be measurable. There needs to be a way for the employee to show progress with the task at hand, it is tough to complete a task if there isn’t a tangible way to know if the goal is being completed. The goal needs to be attainable for the individual. The employee should have the right resources and knowledge to get the task done. This correlates with the realistic aspect of SMART goals. If the task given is not realistic, the employee may become frustrated when they cannot possibly reach the goal. Lastly, the manager should assign the employee a time-frame to complete the task, this will motivate the employee to complete the task at the highest level of efficiency
In setting a goal, you set up a grand goal and then you break it down into smaller goals. This helps you to further monitor your progress on a smaller scale and helps you stay motivated and focused because each time you achieve one of the smaller goals, it keeps you inspired to achieve the grand goal. Set goals that are definite with a well-known target to achieve, always giving yourself a specific time-stamped to achieve your goals. However, ensure that your goals and time lines set are realistic otherwise you will end frustrated chasing castles in the
