Creating My Own Music Video For our coursework we decided to make a music video, based on our original idea of a "Jackass" style programme. Jackass is a programme of various dangerous and stupid stunts, which are all a bit different. We decided against this idea as it restricted our power to change it into an original concept. We decided to make a music video using a punk song, as these have a very broad band of what can be included. We started by making a song in the style of a well known band, Blink 182, but we changed it to incorporate our life at college. We are loosely basing it on a theme of our college life but at the different extremes. We are using what Levi Strauss called Binary Opposites, these are extreme opposites, for example a bad guy being ugly and a good guy being extremely attractive. We are using the Binary opposites of maturity and immaturity, which is a basic college idea, the mature students that do their work and the immature students that joke about and don't take things seriously. We thought of things that would be included in a punk music video, we had the idea of the band rehearsing in a music room and being very professional about it and then came up with the opposite which is practicing in the refectory and playing random objects rather than proper instruments. Another idea we had is spending time leisurely we had the idea of a group of people sitting around playing cards with the comparison of them all running around like mad brandishing water-guns and having a play fight. The next one is also a leisurely activity, playing foosball at the table in the refectory comparing it to doing reckless skating and crashing into each other. We then thought back to the programme Jackass and one of their famous sketches is the presenters being pushed around in a shopping trolley. We thought of using this but needed a binary opposite to go in it so
...sses the direction you are looking for…and Ron Haney and Bart Schoudel (Alicia Keys, Val Emmich) who when we get into a room to write or work on a project…there’s always some kind of magic happening. Ugh, also my singing partner and world’s greatest bass player, Rob Tanico (HWY9, Samhill, Mr. Reality)
While speaking to the young adults, Linkin Park’s music video utilizes rhetoric by showing credibility, intense emotional symmetry, and logistical facts to influence escaping the oppressive expectations of society.
I picked the song “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People. This song is about a school shooting, some people associate this song with the Columbine shooting incident that happened in April 20, 1999. While all the students were in the auditorium, Tyler went around and chained up all the doors that led back out to the hallway besides the one he used to get inside the adoration. Tyler is making comments stating he is thirsty, he then says, “All I ever asked for was a chance. A chance like you gave him or her” (Nijkamp 96). As shots were fired, students began to panic and run, in the song Pumped Up Kicks, the lyrics stated: “All the other kids with the pumped up kicks/ you better run/ better run, outrun my gun/ all the other kids with the pumped up kicks/ you better run, better run, faster than my bullet.” (Pumped up Kicks 11-14) With the students and teachers locked up in the auditorium, Tyler was at an advantage. Everyone was an easy target, especially the teachers up on stage and the students who were close enough in perfect firing range. This song also fits in with this part because everyone in the auditorium has no clue what is going on or why Tyler is committing this act of violence towards
Music is a big part of our lives, it’s in everything whether it be dance, film, ads and much more. But music isn’t just sound, most famous artists produce films for their music to show the artists interpretation of the lyrics and/or music and this is called a music video. These music videos can range from animation to dance to short films and can have a very big budget.
The poet Victor Hugo once stated that “music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot be silent.” This quote seems to represent punk music in a way that isn’t immediately apparent. Punk is considered to be an “underground” genre and style that is popular with teens and young adults that feel oppressed. The expression that "cannot be put into words" and "cannot be silent" describes the ideals of punk perfectly.
In 1981 MTV "Music Television" was introduced on cable television and revolutionized rock marketing. Just as FM radio had superseded the hit-oriented AM format, music videos, produced as mini-movie advertisements for songs, became essential to a performer's popularity. Early in the decade, the British group the Police was one of the first to combine a progressive sound with polished videos. The expense of producing videos and MTV's virtual monopoly made it difficult for experimental music to compete with the dance-pop sung by American artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston, and Madonna, and the British groups Duran Duran and Depeche Mode. Nevertheless, performers such as the Irish group U2 and the American group R.E.M. emerged from their underground roots to enjoy enormous success. Now a few of the new genres of the 80's.
Punk rock often attains to individuals who are against the order and corruption of society and especially the music industry. As ticket prices for arena shows skyrocketed, the popularity of small underground venues with low entry prices increased. These venues are very willing to let local punk rock bands play if they can draw in a large crowd. This intimate experience sparks the thrill of playing on stage. As more of these club venues open, more up and coming musicians get a taste of the spotlight drug. When the audience of a punk rock show pick up on the performer’s adrenaline rush, they also receive a taste of it.
In conclusion, since the punks were breaking the rules of society, they were able to provide “a liminal space in which observers and ritual participants may fruitfully contemplate the vagaries of life” (Van Ham 320). They were able to provide a space where people were able to express themselves and not care what society thought of them because of the sacred power that was over them when they entered their concert, their under-ground dance club, or their ritual meeting. The people felt safe from the sense of control and authority their liminal space provided them. They did not have to fear anything knowing that what they were doing was a whole different experience then what any person would feel following the social norm, which they often find monotones. The liminal space provided them the excitement they have been waiting for.
The late works inspire countless people who seek the limits of musical instruments, improve the techniques of recording and explore new voices. The music that these efforts make is naturally different from the straightforward and concise rock, which is called avant-garde rock. Avant-garde rock emphasis on skills and harmony between members of the tacit agreement. Some people are based on their own musical background to establish personal style, out of the orchestra system. Such as Eric Clayton. But their very personal style of music can no longer be categorized as avant-garde rock category. However, one of the most noteworthy things in the 1970s was the rise of the punk movement. The rise of punk originated from the reactionary movement of rock. When the rock music was loud and vivid, a kind of original and direct music form was gradually formed. Performers presented their musical essence in the simplest, unmodified and most faithful way, the punk rock was really become punk
Music videos began to rise in the 1980 's and ever since then have had a long lasting effect on both the music and television industries. One of music videos most groundbreaking successes was that of MTV, which had a monolithic appearance in the cable TV industry and in American culture. However, MTV as a channel is now that of a dying one. The music video industry continues to thrive due to the developments, expansions, and improvements in technology over the years. In this Post-Network Era, different methods of distribution, for example, YouTube, has allowed there to be a much growth in regards to music videos. Music videos are no longer made by just big television network corporations. They are also made by regular people that can get their

The genre of pop rock has taken the music industry by storm, giving record companies enormous amounts of power and endless financial success along with a way to reproduce it. Owing its popularity to the “light” nature and simplistic, yet catchy melodies, pop music is one of the broadest genres. There’s no way of clearly defining parameters as to what distinguishes a pop music song from other genres. This is largely due to the genre's’ reliance on popularity. Pop music has taken many forms over the decades, keeping characteristics through each generation it passes through.
Video editing is the process of combining video footage from two or more recordings with audio from a recording system, and other images and audio files.
