The most predominate theme that occurred throughout Crash is that “human aren’t all bad” (Farris 357). The movie effectively depicted the theme by showing every characters’ situation from their perspective. Officer Ryan is a good example. Ryan was originally portrayed as a bad guy for molesting Christine and being racist when he pulled over the Thayer’s car. Ryan wishes to see the suffering of others during this specific scene, because he was suffering and agitated from not being able to get proper medical treatment for his father. In other words, Ryan did not act fully out of malicious intentions, but rather he wants to release his stress and anger upon someone else. Later in the movie, it is shown that Ryan was not a real racist since he
Anthony is portrayed as a comical stereotypical black man in the movie. In the beginning, Anthony talked to Peter about how standard black man usually act, and he acted upon these actions right after he said them. In the movie, Anthony might have carjacked the Cabot’s car, and he might have run over a person with the car and almost killing the person, but that does not mean he is truly bad. Right after he hit the Asian man, his first thought was to run and forget about what happened. Instead of running, however, Peter managed to persuade Anthony to save the Asian man without much effort. Later in the movie, it shows that Anthony is not the stereotypical bad black man as they portrayed throughout the film. When Anthony tried to carjack Cameron, he quickly learned that his actions are impacting and disgraceful for his own kind. Anthony did ended up redeeming himself and his own kind by saving a truck full of humans that were being trafficked instead of turning them in for a large amount of money. In a way, Crash foreshadowed that Anthony was not a person who was willing to do evil things without feeling the consequences of his actions since, throughout the movie, he did not shoot his gun once despite all the crazy situations that he came
Farhad seems to blame everybody else beside himself throughout the movie. Farhad is portrayed as a character that does not trust anyone beside his family. An example of Farhad distrust is when he was unwilling to listen to locksmith the instructions for the door repair. As a result, his shop was ruined and he placed all blamed on the locksmith. This, of course, all changed toward the end of the film when he fires a gun at a child by accident. This could have truly been a scene where Farhad turned evil, but his daughter saved him by buying blank bullets instead of real bullets. Whether or not that was truly intentional, the blank bullets saved Farhad’s humanity since he realized what he has actually committed at the scene. Shortly afterward, Farhad was seen remorse and grateful for what has actually occurred when he tried to shoot the locksmith. This shows that Farhad is actually a good person deep inside, but he seems to have a problem trusting others since he lost almost everything from his own
