...my best self, both in and out of the classroom. Equipped with Bachelor of Science in Nursing from LSUHSC, I will dedicate my life and career to fulfilling my role as a leader in health care delivery and strive to continually learn and grow in the field of nursing. I will use my core professional values to represent compassion, respect, integrity and excellence at all times because I understand that a holistic treatment is imperative in effectively healing all individuals. I will take the knowledge I gain at LSUHSC School of Nursing, as well as my own personal experiences, and apply it each and every day to all patients in my care. The field of nursing is my calling and as both a student and graduate of LSUHSC School of Nursing, I will give myself wholeheartedly to the study and practice of nursing while embodying the mission and vision of LSUHSC School of Nursing.
As a medical / surgical RN, I provided care for the elderly, the infirm, the mentally challenged, the young, and the psychologically disturbed. The wide variety of patients exposed me to the effects of life style choices, health care choices, and the resulting impacts to the patient as well as to the family of the patient. This experience has fully matured my view of the awesome responsibility that we, as health care professionals, have been charged with, and it has furthered my desire to obtain the skills necessary to provide more advanced care for my patients. In addition to exposure, maturity and experience, my career as a medical / surgical RN has also sharpened my critical thinking abilities and provided insight on observing signs and symptoms that a patient may be unware of. Furthermore, as a charge nurse I learned the importance of collaborating with other health care professionals in order to provide the highest level of care available. In summary, my career as an RN has provided valuable experience, maturity, exposure to impact and outcome, enhanced my critical thinking abilities, and improved my collaboration

My mom always used to say,” Look at the person as a whole to understand the condition.” Even though it made little sense to me as a child, I learned the concept when I was doing my Internal medicine rotation. The passion of knowing that I could improve a person’s quality of life drew me into pursuing medicine. The multitude of different organ systems that one covers while practicing medicine fascinated me to delve into a field that encompasses them all - Internal Medicine. In addition, I enjoyed the challenges that Internal Medicine would provide me with its diversity. Altogether, Internal Medicine was the amalgam of everything I learned in my medical practice and decided to pursue my residency.
I truly love what I do because it provides me the chance to care for my residents in their most vulnerable and personal moments, whether it be their first steps after surgery or their last breaths in this world. This experience has also allowed me to grow in my knowledge and familiarity of the medical culture and environment. For instance, I have seen the importance and benefit of having several professionals, such as doctors, PAs, therapists, and others, working together on one patient to provide the best quality of care. Additionally, I have been volunteering writing resumes and giving practice interviews for disadvantaged individuals, as well as tutoring homeless and foster children. Working with these individuals is beyond doubt an amazing privilege as I am able to aid those who think that they have no place to turn. Whether it is bringing school supplies to a teenager who has been living on the streets or helping a former inmate acquire his first job after his release, I cherish helping those who feel marginalized by society find their way to a better way of

Due to working with people around in the university Colorado hospital, I believe I am equipped, ready, and determined to dedicate my life to this high level of responsibility. The leadership opportunities allowed me to develop and practice certain characteristics required for nursing. In the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit it has trained me to overcome emotional discouragement, be patient, be attentive to others’ needs before my own, be available for others, build and maintain relationships, organize events, and manage my time under a busy schedule. Moreover, knowing the competitiveness and rigor of nursing school, it has motivated me to maintain disciplined study habits to precede my goal to become a nurse. While working in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit for two years, my experience at this hospital became the most rewarding and enjoyable. The level of complexity and the demand of taking care of the patients in the hospital contributed to my strong passion and urgency to continue to grow my knowledge and help patients. I am fortunate enough to say that all my hardships, triumphs, and various experiences have contributed to my desire and determination to meet the demands of the nursing
