Did you know that a typical teen sends more than 200 texts a week and spends 45 hours a week in front of a screen? Having a phone and being on social media can be a fun and exciting. If someone posts things that are out of context about a person, it could become a problem. Even though someone can have problems with social media, there are still ways that can help them get back on track. In the article, “Could You Become a Mean Meme?”, the author stated pros and cons of social media. Posting online could become a problem for some people. In section 1 paragraph 2, Ashley had become a mean meme because of a picture that was posted online about her. Social media can keep someone up-to-date with family, friends, and many other things, but it also
Social networking sites leave opportunities for vulnerability, however, I don’t believe many youths are an easy target. Using ethos, pathos and logos individuals can create their own reality to relate to the internet world who they think are and how they wish to be seen. In mediated publics such as Facebook and Instagram, the user has complete control of his or her profile and is the only one who can allow content about his/herself to be shared. It is my personal belief that as technology has evolved many people have taken to fabricating some truths here and there and omitting details to give an ideal representation of who they are without incriminating themselves or leaving themselves vulnerable for mistreatment. The fantasy of what is or could be is more desirable than reality. In the past few years, privacy settings have been adapted to cover the growing technological advances to keep users safe from online predators.
Man, I just got 50 new followers! In todays’ society, social media is used so much in many aspects of life with advantages. On the other hand, social media apps such as, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and snapchat also have many disadvantages. The article,” Could you become a Mean Meme” by Kristian Lewis shows the advantages, disadvantages, and ways to stay safe on social media sites.
In the articles "Could You Become a Mean Meme?" and "Are You Being Watched?", by Kristen Lewis explain that there are both advantages and disadvantages to social media. The article "Could You Become a Mean Meme", says this about the media, "Ashley had become a meme--a photo with a caption that takes the image out of context, turning it into a joke that spreads like wildfire across the internet" (Lewis 12). The text proves to us with a real life example, that things we see on the internet are changed in a negative way, and can be completely different than what they were originally meant to be or show. The photos we see that we find funny, were most likely changed to make the account funnier for the content they had. The article "Are You Being
Social media has changed the way people communicate with each other and in turn, has affected our ability to empathize in both negative and positive ways. One of the most harmful consequences is the rise of cyber-bullying. Another negative issue has been the trend of trolling in comments sections of websites, chat rooms, and other online venues of communication. In spite of this, there have been constructive consequences due to social media such as the ability for family and friends to keep in touch on a regular basis. Because of social media, many people are finding support and resources to help them when they fall on hard times or experience tragedies like death and illness. Overall, social media is an exciting new world that changes as it grows and it will be up to society to utilize it for good.
Bullying and social media is leading also a enormous problem on Facebook and all the different applications out there which have to do with social media. Social media death rates have increased the last few years on teenagers using social media on their cellphones and the school’s code of conduct haven’t been doing anything about these serious problems from teenagers taking their lives away or being harassed through social media by the victim. Understanding the values about kids getting harassed or harmed in person or online can cause a huge majority issue for the victims being bullied or leading the victim to commit suicide over a mistake they created by sending nudes to the wrong person with a fake profile. Teenagers who cause a problem by picking on a kid on Facebook, instagram, twitter, Snapchat, etc… don’t realize that their creating a big part and a bigger issue on harming that person by not realizing their really harning that one person 's feelings or heart at the same time . Don’t be a victim to bully others for the looks or how they dress, not everyone is perfect or have everything as others. For instance, “I’m going to kick your butt” is an example of a comment that can still get a bullied in trouble. How the bullied is using those hateful words, can determine them in many different ways to hurt the victim. Also many teenagers don’t understand still how deleting a picture, doesn’t really delete from social media and can still be accessed from anyone. When amanda todd sended her pornography picture at a young age to the man to the shadows. She didn’t realize her picture was going to be on social media forever. Once pictures or any posts deletes can be accessed from anyone online. Also amanda might not haven’t had her information private so one could of gotten her information by that person she wasn’t friends
Social networking sites have changed almost everything and every way teenagers and even adults communicate, think and interact with other people.
Teens that really like to use social media to communicate generally don’t like to communicate in person that much. Some teens might even spend time on their favorite social networking websites with their friends, instead of spending actual time with their friends. Most modern teenagers will text a lot more than calling or talking in person. Then again, other people might use social networking to distract themselves from problems at hand, or from stress and anxiety. This can help and hinder people. Social media sites can help shy people start to talk with other people, but some timid people will never get over their ...
Social media can be used for the wrong reasons in many situations. There are many people who have been victims in cyber-bulling, cyber-stalking, and online frauds.
Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
Firstly, in a world where young adults have grown up with social media as a significant part of their lives, it is no surprise that they tend to overshare private details of their own lives, as well as the lives of their children. The issue considered here is not one of the individuals
With social media becoming such a hit in the past years, everyone has some way to tell everyone about their lives, well the positive parts and better parts of their lives anyway. The majority of people have at least one social media account, wether its facebook, instagram, tumblr, or twitter. With these accounts, everyone can voice their opinion, share the story of their lives, show pictures of where they have been or what they have seen, and read and see about everyone else's lives. Along with the rise of these social media accounts, there has been numerous ways to message people that come along with these accounts.
In source 1, paragraph 3, it states, “Doctors are hearing more and more about the damage being caused by social media, said Pate.” It may be true that damage has been caused by social media, but not everyone gets affected by it. Most people just like being on social media to follow their friends and families and their favorite celebrities. In source 1, paragraph 9 its states, “They may start comparing their lives to those of people on social media.” Some people may start comparing their lives to other “successful” people and they start to feel insecure about their lives, but most people disagree with this because since people don’t really worry about other people’s lives.

Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.
There are about one and a half billion users of social media worldwide. It can be used to meet new people, find old friends, chat the day away, join interest groups, or even to share pictures. Social networks were mostly created so people could meet and find new friends. What most users of social media don't know, are the dangers of using social media. One example is when you meet a person online, because they are not always who they say they are. If someone is not who you may think they are, who could they be? They can be a stalker or a person that wants to steal your identity; which could be done easily thanks to new developments of new technology. Also thanks to new technology it is now easier for people using your information to track you. Posting personal information can risk your family and friends lives. Social media can be used as a weapon against you. It can even lead to a kidnapping, or even someone's death. Many people use social media to help to waste time, but could also become an unhealthy addiction. Also social media can damage your future. When you are a teen you tend to post pretty much anything you want. This is dangerous because you can post too much personal information. What most teens don't realize is that what they do on social media now can affect them for the rest of their life. It can even come back to haunt you in the future. Social media is dangerous because it makes it easier to be stalked, identity theft to happen, kidnappings and murders, and also can ruin your future.
