Purpose of this study
The purpose of this study is to look deeper at three variables that have a relationship with employee service performance at the Carson City Costco warehouse. The study will allow management to implement methods to promote better employee service performance. Costco is an incredible place to shop and work at. The original concept of Costco was created in 1976 under the name of “Price Club” (Santoso, 2013). Price Club merged with Costco in 1993 and changed the name to “PriceCostco” until 1997 when it became the current name of “Costco Wholesale”(Santoso, 2013). Costco is a penny business, which means that for every item they sell, Costco only makes a penny or two. The idea behind the business model is to sell as much as

As a whole, building a Costco in the Longview/Kelso area would be exponential in improving this area's economic state. Being the most productive and profitable warehouse club chain in America, Costco building in Longview/Kelso would bring more business to this area and have a good effect on the economic state of our cities (Longo). Almost anywhere there is a Costco Warehouse, there is life and sustainability. Portland, Vancouver, and Camas thrive and they all have something in common; they have a Costco. Citizens love having a Costco nearby and Longview/Kelso would gain much from having one. One thing Longview/Kelso would gain from having a Costco, would be that Costco brings business into towns. Next to an average Costco, a customer could
Customer loyalty is another competitive advantage. Trader Joe’s doesn’t provide membership card to the customer, however customer still would like to choose Trader Joe’s just because of this
Costco Wholesale Corporation was an uncommon type of retailers called wholesale clubs. These clubs differentiated themselves from other retailer by requiring annual membership purchase. Especially in case of Costco, their target market is wealthier clientele of small business owners and middle class shoppers. They are now known as a low cost or discount retailer where they sell products in bulk with limited brands and their own brand. The company is competing with stores like Wal-Mart, SAM’s, BJ’s, and Sears. The case begins with an individual shareholder, Margarita Torres, who first purchased shares in 1997 and who is trying to evaluate the operational performance of the business in order to make a decision rather or not purchase more shares

In this climate of deteriorating government transparency, whistleblowers expose corruption to the public which may otherwise never come to light. In recent history, whistleblowers have been vital in revealing government corruption. In one of the first large scale leaks, “the whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg leaked US government files known as the Pentagon Papers, whi...
As for the second issue, it seems that Costco’s efforts to become an international company are moving slowly. They have not reached a point where their US and Canadian warehouses provide a backbone for their finances. Costco’s third issue is their expenses, which include merchandising costs and pre-opening expenses, have been increasing steadily and they need to balance this out to keep a positive net income. Analysis: Key Issue #1: Costco has many competitors, with the primary two being Sam’s Club, a wholesale business managed by Walmart, and BJ’s wholesale club. Sam’s Club offers the same services as Costco.
Organizations that are more established and prosperous will have a more favorable way of looking at acts of whistleblowing and will have more resources at its disposal to devote to investigate the claims of the whistleblowers. On the other hand those firms which are less prosperous may see acts of whistleblowing as a threat to their existence and, have a hostile climate in general towards whistleblowing. The acts of whistleblowing may be perceived differently by different people in the organization. The superiors and the supervisors of the whistleblower may see such an act as questioning their ability, integrity and conduct. The fellow employees and colleagues may perceive the whistleblower as being disloyal to the company and the owners and the top management may see it as an effort on the part of the whistleblower to destroy the organizational image and threaten its stability. It is thus difficult to predict the outcomes across organizations in case of whistleblowing. A number of factors determine the outcome but these factors and the outcome itself vary from organization to organization and from individual to individual (Paul and Townsend,
Costco is mindful of its responsibilities as an environmental steward to manage their global operations in an energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly and sustainable manner. They established ten years ago a special department for Corporate Sustainability and Energy Department. It allowed them to develop actively, solutions for many aspects of their business related to sustainability such as seeking opportunities to reduce their carbon footprint, enhancing the warehouse energy management systems, refining their packaging design initiatives and further developing their recycling and waste stream management programs.
The whistle blower needs compelling evidence of wrongdoing. Its reckless to accuse a company of wrongdoing when there’s a good possibility that the company is innocent. Additionally, accusations against a company are likely to harm the whistle blower rather than the company when the public doesn’t have good reason to agree that the company did something wrong. An employee could be dismissed or sued for defamation.
Wrongdoings happen all around the world. Whether on a small or large scale, immoral practices such as abuse of power, cheating, money laundering, etc. are common in almost all of the countries. Whenever these cases happen, many people are bribed into concealing the secret and do so as they are told. This act causes that particular practice to grow and do even more damage to society while still being unknown to the innocent public. Although, there is almost always a person involved who is against the practice and wants to reveal what’s happening to world. Unfortunately, those who speak out, also known as whistleblowers, end up facing harsh consequences. What did these people do wrong? The point being, Whistleblowers should be protected because they uncover secrets that affect the public, expose unethical practices and help make the future better.
Personally, there is not many situations where I would blow the whistle because of the low guarantee of my employment. Whistle blowing is not usually done correctly, but when an employee is brave enough to speak out against unethical practices of the business in which they work a lot. They are referred to as superheroes to the other employees and can save a company from losing everything. Also, they prevent harm for the business’s customers and employees.
There are multiple positive and negatives aspects of whistleblowing, some of them being more obvious than others. Positives include possibly stopping the unethical/illegal behavior that the whistleblower has been observing, encouraging other people who have seen unethical/illegal behavior to speak up, and in some cases a financial reward. Negatives include being labeled as a troublemaker or an untrustworthy person, the company being put into a negative spotlight, possible company collapse if the issue is severe enough, and possible retaliation against the whistleblower.
Understood correctly whistle-blowing is defined as an informant who exposes wrongdoing within an organization. (1) Whistle-blowing is not about informing in the negative but raises concern about misconduct within an organization. More so, it can also be
Once a whistle-blower has disclosed to an external party, the public and media scrutiny, as well as possible resulting charges may result in long-term harm to the reputation of an organisation (Figg 2000). A tremendous amount of time may be spent fighting whistle-blower divulges, which could result in a possible loss of confidence toward employees remaining within the firm and the emergence of any mutual suspicion among employees can badly affect their performance, which may also made the firm suffer a loss of profit along with a decline in the market effectuation. Weinstein (1979 cited Keenan 1995, p.4) notes that more often than not, managers have taken the stance that whistle-blowers pose a risk to the organisation's unification, authority structure, and public
