Fashion is driven by transformation. Being a designer it means you continually need to persuade the public that there’s new ideas, however some of these designs might seem shocking to the public but in fact these designs are everything a stylish wardrobe needs. On of the design that has been around for about 7000 years and now is one of the things that every human needs is underwear/ lingerie. Its all started with the ancient Egyptians, it was worn by cavemen, and of course the Roman cultures. The first design of the underwear was the loincloth. Loincloth was used to be tied around the hips and brought forward between the wearer’s legs. The purpose of it back in the days was to keep the clothes clean from touching the skin. In the 14th century the reason for designing it was mainly for aesthetic rather than for particular reasons. Most of the garment are designed to fit the users body shape, however the corset was designed to create a certain type of a body shape. Throughout the century, corset designs were made from different materials, for example: from wood, metal, animal bones and rods, and so many other different designs including clips, straps and even …show more content…
Before most of the body had been covered, but nude limbs now acted almost like a fabric, even more so once it became fashionable to increase skin with a suntan thus bringing the ability to change even the type of flesh as climatic conditions. As the top outer garments were by then little more than a single layer dress or suit, the underwear needed to feel smoother for comfort.
From Knickers to panties, the name of the knickers has changed in the 20s and it became known as the panties and later on in the 30s they were known as panty briefs. The design wise has improved and it became smoother in the line and it was an essential.
Later in the 1940s, the fabric that was used in deigning the pants has changed from silk to majority were made with cotton and that was popular in the 1940s and 1950s. Many of the pants were made of cotton which they could be boiled, or some of them were made of silk and these were be worn in only special occasions. ...hese materials were used because they could be easily found at a low price compared to Hemp fiber and silk. Hemp fiber and silk were used at first but then the Chinese realized there are greater uses for this material. Therefore they started to use the worn fishnet, bark and cloth.
To start the dressing process, Victorian women had so many layers of clothing it all had to be placed upon them one at a time. The first layers consisted of undergarments such as items women of today would call underwear and socks. However, the Victorian women wore drawers as modern women wear underwear. Stockings; usually knit, cotton or silk, covered the lower leg with a garter to keep them from falling down the leg or revealing any flesh of the lower leg (Mitchell 17). Upon the upper part of the body a Chemise was worn to cover the skin below the corset...
Having invested 27 million dollars and eleven years of research, Du Pont de Nemours Inc. roused world-wide interest when the company displayed the first ever nylon stockings in the New York World Fair in 1938. Nylon apparel, including women's lingerie and foundation garments, soon appeared on the American market in wide varieties. Unfortunately, the quantities were limited. Women paid deathly high pre-war prices to obtain a pair of these famous nylons; they quickly became a symbol of status and wealth (Ewing, 111). Its heyday, however, was brief, for in February 1942, America's nylon literally went to war with the soldiers, and nylon stockings temporarily became extinct. Post-war attitudes toward nylons and other underwear drastically differed from those of the pre-war. This 1952 Du Pont Nylon ad coincides with this change. The advertisement indicates not only the remaining post-war patriotic sentiments, but also the progress women made since the 1930's in obtaining more freedom, independence, and simplified lifestyle.
...nspired by medieval Italy. It then became a popular trend for brides to copy. The dress was also loose on waist and hip, and have comfortable short sleeves. It did not have any undergarments for support.
In the fifteenth century women began wearing an undergarment of thickened linen, tightened by front or back ties which was known as corset to give the women a firmed shape. It was made of two layers of linen tightly held together with stiffed glue.
Fashion has been developing for as long as the Earth had been around, but the style people track today redirects generally to what was brought up during the roaring twenties, the era of a luxurious life. Women’s sartorial will experience many more future modifications which are predicted to be less modest and conservative. Men, on the other hand, will most likely not endure many changes. As fashion flourishes, society’s image on women, as well as men, will renovate into a more exposed mentality with a greater assortment of acceptance.
Most clothing was tailored by family members themselves. Source 2 mentions that the creation of fabric was “intricate and time-consuming to make.” However, because of the difficulty it arose, fabric became a meaningful commodity. The design process itself, however, was much more practical. Clothing has since the beginning of time served as a distinction between cultures, and many devised their own ways to create it.
Although some people take it upon themselves to go above and beyond and make their clothing revealing, some girls take it upon themselves to make sure that they are covered. Therefore clothes have come along way from the time we started revolutionising and became more “ stylish “ to people these days but if people came from the past they would try to find the tailors, instead of going to the mall and seeing me work at aeropostale they would want their clothes custom made.
Royal women often wore stockings that covered the lower edges of their legs, they were called nether hoses. Headdresses that looked like veils covered the ears and the front part of the head, and no hair was visible. A form of their sleeves were having them start big and tighten as they move closer to the cuff, they formed a

In the late 18th century the Industrial Revolution occurred causing a huge shift in the ways in which clothing was produced and subsequently altering the ways in which clothing was perceived. For decades preceding industrialisation men and women of high so...
Everyone in the age would always wear extremely modest clothing. The common garment for a man was the robe gathered at the waist, completed by hose and soft sandals. The same was for the woman, except their dress extended to the feet. The most common materials used to make clothing were linen and woolens, though...
“For as long as men and women have been wearing clothing, there has been a hierarchy based on garments. The clearest example arose when the sexes were segregated into skirts and pants: women would only wear dresses (a symbol of submission) and men would only wear trousers (proof of domination). Women’s clothing was created to impede and hamper movement (through tight or many layered skirts), while men enjoyed the ease and comfort of pant legs.” (Meza, Echazarreta) Women’s fashion throughout the ages can be used to trace the history of equality between men and women. As women achieved greater independence, they claimed the right to choose what they wore, and that included women being able to wear pants. There are three things that were instrumental in making it socially acceptable for women to wear pants, they include: the invention of the bicycle, WWII, and influential women.
Fashion was culturally formed, and there is a close relationship between art and fashion. The first designer who had his label sewn into a garment he created was Charles Frederick Worth (1825-1895). In the 1840s, adult women adopted a variation on girls' pantalettes as an undergarment. (Toccata: March 2010 toccatamundi.blogspot.com
Clothing has been around for thousands of years; almost as long as the modern human has. At first, it served the practical purpose of protection from the elements; but, as life for early humans stopped being a constant struggle to survive, they started noticing how they looked and the concept of fashion began to take shape. These first few garments were typically dyed draped cloth that was pinned at the shoulder and/or waist. This was seen in many ancient civilizations around the world, Greek and Roman the most notable. Over time, clothing began to get more and more complex and formed to the body’s shape, eventually leading up to the tailored style we now have today. However, the sophisticated world of Haute Couture; or high fashion, can distinctly trace its roots to Paris during the mid-19th century. Clothing from there was thought to be superior to those from anywhere else, and women began to come from all over Europe just to buy dresses. This was probably due in part to one notable dressm...
