ChildFund India believes that cross-learning among early childhood development (ECD) professionals, and strengthening ECD professionals is one of the key milestones for the success of any ECD program. This paper discusses ChildFund’s virtual community of practice on ECD that brings collective knowledge and encourages coordinated efforts to enhance implementation of the ECD programme. It illustrates characteristics of COP-ECD as an alternate learning model for capacity building, knowledge management, and organisational learning. Further it discusses possible benefits of COP-ECD and recommendations to enhance functioning of COP-ECD.

In this light, the Centre of Learning and Excellence for Childhood Development (CLECD) unit of ChildFund India has initiated the Community of Practice (COP) among grass-root ECD practitioners from 49 local partners spread over 14 states of the country. The COP operates through e-group where the grass-root level ECD practitioners (primarily Programme Coordinators) share their field practices and challenges. The primary objective of the COP-ECD is to gain knowledge of the field practice, facilitate culture of sharing & learning and promote coordinated actions. Total 3 COP-ECD sessions were conducted and received 93% participation. The CLECD appreciated efforts of community members with certificate of participation and three active community members were awarded with star community member award, and one outstanding member was awarded community ambassador
