Think about a world where utopia exists, even though we are all unique. There are distinct differences between men and women, and everyone is entitled to their opinions. You should have a say in what you think is right or wrong. In 1970, Ira Levin published This Perfect Day, which shows us how it would be if all our differences were taken away and we were made the same. Men don’t grow facial hair, and women don’t have breasts because they are given treatments that dull their minds and make them all think the way they want them to think. She shows us how the world would be if it were controlled by people who want a perfect society in which they control everything. In This Perfect Day, we see how the world would be if it were run by certain people who controlled everything we do. It begins in the year 141 of the Unification when everything is now being controlled by supercomputers. Everyone is given monthly treatments to keep them in check by Uni. These treatments do everything and even kill people when they reach the age of sixty-two by giving them too much poison in their treatments. All the members are okay with this because they just think it’s the natural way of life, but really Uni does this because they don’t want the members to live until sixty-three because they think they won’t produce anything good anymore. Christ, Marx, Wood, and Wei are the four people who supposedly made this society, so everyone also says this when they want to thank something for doing something good. They thank Uni for everything and never give credit to each other. Everyone refers to themselves as brother or sister. All the boys have the same names, which are Bob, Jesus, Karl, or Li. The girls are named Anna, Mary, Peace, or Yin, and so on. It is essential to be careful that in years to come, we don’t have a society like this where computers have control over our minds. It is not okay for a society to be like the one in this book. It is not morally right, and it isn’t healthy. A person doesn’t want to be controlled in every way. You can’t expect to run a society like this one for very long and it not fall apart. We are human beings, not some animal that you can treat like a robot. In my opinion, this book is very good at showing how utopias work. This book showed us how hard it is to make the perfect society and how hard it is to break a society like this one. Chip was the main character, and Levin did a good job showing us how he really felt from being under the spell of the Uni-Comp and how difficult it was for him to tear Uni down. I was very interested throughout the book, and I would recommend it to friends.

...nce our perceptions on reality and the concept of a utopian society. The connection between our own society and elements of the novel enable readers to recognize that although a literal utopian society is not possible, the closest we can come to perfection is to find a balance between what is and what we can imagine.
Most men and women today believe that we do not need feminism, that the world is fine. Sorrowfully they are far from being accurate. We don’t need feminism because it is about genders, we need it because it is about our society’s humanity. Women all around the world are denied basic human rights simply by the fact they are women which is absurd. For instance,
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, it takes an in depth look at individuality and the thought process with and without outside control. It makes you think about how indirectly the government controls small details around you. What would happen if the government wanted to take control of you completely? How easy would it be?
In conclusion, men and women still aren’t treated as equals. They are still often considered objects to look at, when men and women do similar things, they are viewed differently, and women are thought to be less capable then men in the workplace, just because they are women. We, men and women alike, need to stop treating each other as completely different species. If North America wants to become leaders to a discrimination-free world, they must first realize that women are equal human beings with equal abilities, but aren’t being treated the same way as men. This needs to change because our world would be a better place without sexual discrimination!
Men were taught to be superior to women since the dawn of time, whereas females were looked down upon. Ruled by patriarchy, it was hard for most of these women to do more than just be a stay at home wife. In some of the stories we have read, the women were portrayed as submissive, obedient, with no voice. Women have struggled to break out of this mold and find a voice for themselves. However, some managed to break out of these expectations and standards. Women and men have had to fulfill different set standards before anyone had stepped foot outside the womb. For both genders those standards came with different expectations.
Although we may see that females have the same rights as males in most circumstances, there is still a gender norm which controls how each gender should act. Women have fought for their rights and have been successful but the gender norms are still holding females back from being able to freely enjoy what males enjoy. Our society has been governed by these gender norms that help control how each of us as males and females should live. These gender norms help guide us through our life as being a male and female. When we were born, we are able to see our gender as displayed by someone else and we learn on how we should also act as well. These gender norms help guide how we live our lives and what we do with ourselves and helps make our decisions when we are unsure. In educating ourselves, gender norms are visibly throughout the education system as males and females are taught what is acceptable by each gender and how we should act. If we act outside of these gender norms, we are considered deviant and different. In school we are taught as males and females in what courses we should be taking and how to act as a male and
Men and boys are subjected to massive amounts of prejudice in everything from education provision; medical cancer research (breast versus testicular for example); housing provision; Divorce; the right to bring up their children alone; hugely insulting articles; newspaper stories and books; job security issues as a result of so-called “positive” discrimination; discriminatory advertising on the television; hate speech; political discrimination; legal rights and censorship of the male point of view in the media. If men complain about this they are ridiculed and called whiners sometimes by other so-called men in the media but, most often, by radical feminist media spokesmen. This prejudice has led to an explosion of single mothers and the most confused and damaged generation of children our country has ever known. Will someone please tell me the benefits of this utopian radical feminist, left wing view of modern society?
Everyone has to negotiate with patriarchy. Patriarchy, a facet of society promoting “being male dominated, male identified, and male centered,” uses the male-centered actions and exclusion of women to “subsume the female under the male,” meaning that anyone trying to exist in society as gendered beings, for better or worse, fall
There is a serious problem in our society where masculine qualities are valued more than feminine qualities. Hegemonic masculinity shows that from a young age boys are taught that doing anything feminine is wrong which sets them up to be a man who disvalues femininity. The wage gap shows that women have a severe disadvantage in the job market. Marital power shows that just because a woman makes more than a man it really doesn’t matter because the man still controls everything.
Most men tend to answer that being a good man is to have honor, integrity, stability and being the provider, and being a real man is being tough, strong, get rich etc. All these principles created a psychology built around four main rules of the real men which are: no sissy stuff, be a big wheel, be a sturdy oak, and give “em Hell”. The problem related to this way of thinking is that those notions are taught by others groups of men and this an obstacle to the empowerment of women. The evolution of a gender cannot be done without the support of the
In conclusion, even though our society would like to believe that women have always had equal liberties (with men) in everything they do, we can see this is not the case. Throughout human history, woman has believed she is inferior to man, however, now with our civilization progressing in the women’s right movement everyday, women can finally come to terms with the fact that they are indeed equal to men.
It's not something we should be striving for. It's a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it to stand on this earth as men and women, and the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance, and that imbalance is sucking something out of the soul of every man and woman who's confronted with it. We need equality. Kinda now.”(00:06:54-00:07:31). Unfortunately, inequality between the sexes began hundreds of years ago and has grown tremendously through each generation. It seems almost unfathomable that even today, the fight for gender equality, one of the most vital building blocks of feminism, is still alive and
Women are supposed to be stay-at-home mothers while the men go and earn a living if these roles are switched they are discriminated against. All men are pigs, and they don’t care about women’s feelings. Women don’t make as much as men when working for the same company and the same job. Men cannot slap a woman without it being considered abuse, but a woman can hit a man without any consequences. The list goes on and on. Men and women really aren’t that much different from each other because we all have the same goals in life to be successful, to be loved, to be acknowledged only to name a few. We are not different races or species; we are all human beings with the same basic
Equality is a concept mankind never is able to grasp correctly. Of course humans will always search for different solutions to create fairness, but factors such as human greed, ignorance of mass populations, and even biological aspects stagnates the process of equality. The oldest and most relevant discussion on equality lies with the difference of sex; man versus woman. Initially, men, because of their physical superiority, were given the prospects many women never even dreamt to have. Conversely, as time has progressed, women have fought this unfair treatment with demands of suffrage and similar rights to those of their male equivalents. Greatly enough, this generation has done an exceptional job in the challenge of overcoming sexism and inequality. However, will this search for equality ever end? When can we say we have created an equal race of men and women? The fact of the matter is that it is truly impossible to have equality between the sexes because of predisposed circumstances that are not easily controllable in the slightest bit.
