As a perspective teacher I have a long ways to go in both knowledge and experience in creating lessons and curriculum. As I continue to add the tools necessary it’s important for me to realize some of the most important resources available to me are my fellow teachers. Their prior experience and years of continuing education truly is invaluable. It is my hope that my youth and fresh perspectives can aide these teachers when we collaborate. The encouragement of teacher collaboration is important in creating higher levels of instruction. This is very exciting for me personally moving forward. Norman Webb’s Depth of Knowledge calls for teachers to raise the bar by collaborating. It also requires us to challenge our students to do know more …show more content…
than remembering important dates and reciting only key details. By working together teachers can create a more “rigorous” curriculum. By doing this we will empowering students to use evidence as justification for their responses. Students will be able strategically think so that they can connect ideas to formulate hypothesis, investigate and apply learned concepts. The use of Webb’s model can help create students who are capable of higher levels of thinking and as a result of this they will be more equipped to solve the complexities that await them both academically and professionally. If teachers can maximize the use of technology in the classroom accompanied by the use Webb’s Depth of Knowledge Model then students will be armed with both the power of higher levels of cognitive ability and the tools to maximize their potential.
Students will be able to work together by using technology to brainstorm, collect information, communicate findings and create a product that’s more fully developed and well rounded. The use of SAMR will not only help students collaborate more efficiently it will also aid them in creating products that were once not possible. Students can use and create new technology that not only show’s their level of understanding in a new way they can use that technology to be truly imaginative and inventive. In the not so distant past teachers and students would have gone without the use of technology in their classroom. Today it is imperative to both teacher and student that technology be used as a means to create engaging curriculum. Students will no longer only use a simple word program to type a paper. In an imaginative classroom they will modifying and redefining the uses of technology. The use of technology will be used as tool for the most expressive and creative generation the world has ever
seen. I believe that the combination of technology and Webb’s model makes becoming a teacher very exciting. The tools that technology gives students along with a creative and rigorous curriculum will produce the most capable generation of students that we have ever seen. Teaching these students comes with a great responsibility. This is why the State of Washington has set forth a high level of Essential Academic Learning Requirement’s (EALR’s). The learning standards state that “High school graduates can expect a brand of globalized opportunity-unbound by borders, enriched by the fusion of industry and culture-available to those who know how to investigate, solve problems, collaborate, create, and innovate” These standards are categorized around two EALR’s: EALR 1 Integration Students use technology within all content areas to collaborate, communicate, generate innovative ideas, investigate and solve problems. EALR 2- Digital Citizenship Students demonstrate a clear understanding of technology systems and operations and practice safe, legal and ethical behavior. It seems that if we as educators are to meet these standards then we will have no choice but to incorporate models of learning like SAMR and Webb. Failing to do so would result in students not reaching their full potential.
Teacher knowledge has always been the basis to an effective learning experience. Without a knowledgeable teacher, students are not able to receive a quality educational experience. This pillar encompasses the influence teachers have on student learning and achievement, possession of research based knowledge, and effective teaching practices. I thrive to be educated and knowledgeable on the information presented to my students. By having a variety of teaching techniques that work and I use often in my classroom, I am able to mold my instruction around student needs and provide efficient and
Through the support of the professional development program, the effectiveness of the teachers enhances the quality of instruction and increases the student achievement and learning. The delivery of professional development program leads to alterations in professional learning, leading to changes in professional practice, which ultimately impact student achievement.
Continuing professional development (CPD) means that professionals participate in learning activities to further improve the quality of their learning and develop their abilities and to update their learning continuously. It enables them to set goals and work to achieve them, so going above and beyond any initial training. Image a school with laptops available to each student to complete their class notes, teachers who are able to help their students through the screens of their computer, children who are excited to learn about numbers with the help of cute, animated characters. With the endless advancement of today’s technology, schools across the world have begun integrating various technology into their curriculum. These devices have the potential to greatly impact students in their learning. When a school opts to use technology in a school setting, the most important factors they should take into consideration are the benefits of using technological devices, the effectiveness of technology used
Society, schools, and students are becoming increasingly diverse every day. We have put people into space and on the moon because of major discoveries in science and technology. We have come from making computers that were so large only one could be put in a single room, to making them small enough to hold in our lap. Being a teacher is just as hard as being a scientist. A teacher in today’s classroom must be able to prepare our students for the ever-changing world and teach them how to survive in it. They must be able to teach students a basic curriculum, hot to use and expand that curriculum, and show them how it will be relevant in their every day life. Every day brings a new change and a successful teacher must be ready to accept these changes and bring them into the classroom.
It is very hard not to realize that technology has overpowered education in many ways. “Technology integration is similar to a tidal wave, growing silently in strength, then falling with an unstoppable roar upon those who paid no attention or showed little interest” (Guhlin, 40). Nowadays, computers are almost considered a necessity in the classroom, and are the main component of technology integration. Computers are being used in more numerous ways, besides only being used for basic word processing. With a simple computer, copious availabilities of technologies can be used in the classroom. “The one thing that is so great about the computer is that it does give a lot of instruction--and you don't need to have hearing to take advantage of it” (Anderson, 12). It’s amazing how one simple screen can provide everlasting opportunity for learning.
The issues discussed in this essay are relevant for all life-long students and educators who seek to embrace technology and an increase in communication between people of similar interests and desires to move forward with their personal goals. So many nations and people have been kept uninformed and uneducated for far too long and the edu-tech visionaries recognize the wasted opportunities presented via humankind's greatest invention. This population, students and educators envision the collaborative power and seek facilitation "through increased efficiency and effectiveness" (Courville, 2011, p. 3 ). They are a worthy audience for this topic because they embrace all the hope which arises from the proper and expedient use of the tools in existence today.
I feel that my eclectically blended views on teaching will make me a rare teacher in today’s world. I’m not afraid to make friends with my students and work with them person to person. Children need the time and extra concern from someone, and who better than their parent away from home, the teacher. I want to give my students chances that I didn’t have in school, the chance to get on track early in life. True, I had a truly inspirational teacher that cared and was concerned, but no one ever thought I could do it. I want my students to get this support, this drive, and this motivation early in life. I want my students to make all they can out of what they are given in life. As I stated previously, even if I reach just one student, one solitary student, then I have made my difference. I have changed the world.
In less than a decade, computer use progressed from programming classes for a few of the better students, to literacy classes for all students, to the integration of computers and technology into the curriculum. Now, there is a goal for educators to use technology as a tool in efforts to teach more effectively by using a variety of strategies to meet different needs in a diverse classroom. This will take training and commitment to keep up in an area that changes quickly, but the benefits to teachers and students are greater that the effort it will take to stay informed; computers increase productivity of students and make learning a fun experience. They help students become better problem-solvers instead of just rote learners.

My cooperating teacher has been employed in the field of education for 19 plus years. She has been in her current position as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at the Lighthouse Learning Center for 12 years. Observing a teacher who has so many years of experience in the classroom is very beneficial. She shared with me this week her teaching philosophy that has evolved from her many years in the classroom. The components of her philosophy include a focus on people, strategies, and tools.
The education world has been greatly influenced by rapidly changing technology and the increasing availability of information. Schools have advanced by leaps and bounds when it comes to incorporating technology into the learning environment, however, many more advances need to be made. In all areas of the country, educators are trying to help students keep up with technology, but there are more changes that are essential for preparing the next generation for the future.
Computer technology is one the most innovative advancements in modern-day education. Technology has made its way into the world of teaching practice and principle by expanding the way we approach instruction in the classroom. We are no longer confined to pencil and paper, but have the ability to project and present knowledge in an enhanced way to capture the minds of a generation of students whose society is built around ever expanding world of computer technology.
As an educator, there is always room for reflection and growth. Being in this class has provided an opportunity for both. From my knowledge gained in this class I believe that I have become smarter and have learned how to implement different tool into my teaching as well as general life as a teacher. Of the topics discussed in this class, commitment to students, avoiding burnout and reflective practices had the biggest impact on my professional growth.
students prefer technology because they believe that it makes learning more interesting and fun. They especially like laptops and tablets. Subjects that students deem challenging or boring can become more interesting with virtual lessons, through a video, or when using a tablet. Technology occupies an important place within students’ lives. When they are not in school, just about everything that they do is connected in some way to technology. By integrating technology into the classroom, teachers are changing the way they used to teach (lectures six hours a day) and providing students with the tools that will take them into the 21st century. One of the characteristics of the modern classroom is collaboration and technology helps to empower it. With classroom technology students can collaborate with other students and their teachers in and outside of the classroom quickly and easily.
