Green tea is made from the plant Camellia Sinensis’s leaves without fermentation (Suzuki, Miyoshi & Isemura, 2012) and is regarded as a popular and healthy drink in Asian countries because of its health-promoting potentials such as protecting against cancer and cardiovascular disease (Harvard Health Publications, 2012; Iwasaki et al., 2014). Lots of the positive effects are due to the antioxidative activity of (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which is a major component of green tea (Suzuki et al., 2012). And it draws researchers’ interests and attentions to further investigate. According to Suzuki et al., one example of the health advantages is that catechins in green tea bring an anti-obesity effect by stimulating lipid metabolism in liver (2012).
However, green tea may bring us undesirable outcomes due to some constituents. Caffeine is one of those substances that is diuretic and reduces the fatigue sensation but the consequences of overconsumption are well proved that it will decrease sleeping duration and worsen sleeping quality by inducing sleeplessness (Suzuki et al., 2012). A study found out that tea intake of university students was significantly linked to sleeping quality (Cheng et al., 2012). However, the types of tea were not investigated. The effect of green tea consumption on sleep quality is still not well documented.
Sleep is very important to our body for relaxation, preparing ourselves for the next day. Unfortunately, poor sleeping quality is prevalent in modern cities such as Hong Kong. Scrutiny of caffeine and its effects has increased dramatically in the last 20 years, due in part to an increase in consumption of caffeine. In fact, coffee consumption among young adults rose to 3.2 cups per day in 2008 from 2.4 cups per day in 2005 (Rokerya 1). This study performed in Hong Kong was interesting and helped support the idea that college students are not getting enough sleep and that sleep deprivation is a real problem amongst young adults during their years of studies. Self reported testimonials were collected from university business students.
Sleep deprivation is a commonplace occurrence in modern culture. Every day there seems to be twice as much work and half as much time to complete it in. This results in either extended periods of wakefulness or a decrease in sleep over an extended period of time. While some people may like to believe that they can train their bodies to not require as much sleep as they once did this belief is false (1). Sleep is needed to regenerate certain parts of the body, especially the brain, so that it may continue to function optimally. After periods of extended wakefulness or reduced sleep neurons may begin to malfunction, visibly effecting a person's behavior. Some organs, such as muscles, are able to regenerate even when a person is not sleeping so long as they are resting. This could involve lying awake but relaxed within a quite environment. Even though cognitive functions might not seem necessary in this scenario the brain, especially the cerebral cortex, is not able to rest but rather remains semi-alert in a state of "quiet readiness" (2). Certain stages of sleep are needed for the regeneration of neurons within the cerebral cortex while other stages of sleep seem to be used for forming new memories and generating new synaptic connections. The effects of sleep deprivation on behavior have been tested with relation to the presence of activity in different sections of the cerebral cortex.
Sleeping is something that is an essential part of human nature and is a must in order for one to be a functional human being. Sleep is an idea that is accompanied by many wives’ tales, including the ideas that one needs seven to eight hours of sleep each night and alcohol helps one fall asleep and sleep more soundly. One myth about sleep is that during sleeping, one is in a state of nothingness. In truth, however, it has been discovered that during sleep the brain is active, variations in heartbeat and breathing occur, and the eyes and ears are active throughout the time of sleep. These activities during a person’s sleep are important because they help that person be more aware, awake, and alert during consciousness. If all of these important activities occur during sleep, why is it that people are so willing to short themselves of this vital activity? Although much about sleep still remains a mystery, research and experiments continue to show how important sleep is to each and every person. Throughout this paper, I will discuss sleep and the effects that it has on performance and health, especially in college students. A college student’s sleeping pattern is a reliable indicator to their level of performance in the classroom and other school-affiliated activities, as a lack of sleep leads to decreased performance. Sleep is directly related the level of performance and health in an individual; the more rested a person is, the better that person will perform and feel (Dryer, 2006).

This chemical acts as a Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulant which suppresses drowsiness and promotes alertness. It is a naturally occurring substance commonly found in tea leaves, coffee beans, cocoa beans, cola nuts and other plants species [7]. Today, caffeine plays an essential role of being necessary ingredient in beverages like coffee, soft drinks, tea, energy drinks and also in foods like chocolate. The level of caffeine composition in foods and drinks primarily depends on the plant variety of which it derives from, the serving size, brand and the brewing method.
The purpose of testing and finding the amount of caffeine in tea is to help people better their choice of tea. Caffeine causes high risk in blood pressure so testing the amount of caffeine in tea can help reduce the amount of caffeine that is being intaked. When drinking caffeine become a daily beverage the human body begins to rely on caffeine to stay away and working so testing the caffeine can help tea drinkers choose the right tea, which is the one with the lowest caffeine. Many people enjoy tea but testing this experiment will help realize what substances are contained in tea. More than 80% percent of society drinks beverages with caffeine, but this experiment will help America make a better choice in what they drink and enjoy beverages that doesn’t have as much caffeine (Demand Media,2010).
Sleep has always been a popular subject among humans. There have been many studies that examine sleep and its correlation with a wide variety of variables, such as depression, energy levels, and grades. Students, as a group, are widely studied. As the world’s future leaders and thinkers, there is great importance placed on their achievements. In this study the effect of student sleep habits on perceived academic performance is investigated. Many things may affect students’ academic success among these variables are sleep habits.
Sleep, along with academics, is part of two essential components in that needed in life. Sleep is characterized as “a condition of body and mind such as that which typically recurs for several hours every night, in which the nervous system is relatively inactive, the eyes are closed, and postural muscles realized, and consciousness practically suspended” (Dictionary). The eminence of sleep has a colossal influence on daily life, since disordered sleep can affect your concentration, work, and ability to interact with others. During an individual's sleep, both mental and physical refurbishment takes place. This allows you to feel refreshed and very much alert in the morning. Sleep can fluctuate from one individual to another, which results in different sleep patterns. The ideal number of hours a person should get of sleep a night is 7 to 9 hours. Too much or too little of sleep can also impact someone the following day. It can leave a person tired and irritable the next morning. Due to growth hormones being released during sleep cycles, infants, children, and young adults are in need of extra sleep than adults require (Kahn, 2014). The quantity of time consumed in the deeper stages of sleep often reduces with age, and an elderly person is more likely to wake up habitually in the duration of the night. The importance of sleep is highly undervalued. There are numerous college students across the nation who loses hours and hours of sleep on studying. Sleep deprivation can hinder a person’s capability to lose weight. Sleeping during the day can lower a person’s liveliness levels and essentially would begin to gradually affect them academically.
