What is philosophy? Although many people have a basic understanding of the word, many people do not grasp what it really means or how it is significant to daily life.Philosophy is the science of logic and reason, but what exactly does that entail? Unless one has studied philosophy, it can be a difficult concept for people to grasp right away. To truly understand philosophy one must understand how philosophy works, the objective of philosophy, and the thought processes of philosophers. If one understands how philosophical thought is done, then it is easy to understand certain aspects of what philosophy is. Philosophy is used to derive answers to life's biggest questions. Questions about life and the universe, which the general populace often gives a passing thought about, are the subjects discussed in philosophy. The main fields of philosophy explain three things, morality, existence, and knowledge. Also known as ethics, metaphysics and epistemology respectively, these fields are used to analyze what is right, what exists, and what we know. Philosophers study philosophy using a certain process or equation called a conditional proposition. The conditional proposition is, simply put an "If Then Argument". If I have A I have B. there must be a logical process behind the statement. For example the statement "If I have 6 apples than I have 3 apples". From a numerical standpoint, since 6 is greater than 3, the statement is correct. The conditional proposition can be simplified into "If A then B" or "A therefore B". Aside from being a thing you can major in in college many people don't know the answer to this question. Philosophy comes from the two Greek root words Philos and Sophia, meaning love and wisdom. Simply put, philosophy is the love of wisdom. However, that does not tell us what philosophy is for. To understand what philosophy is for, one must understand what philosophers are experts in: wisdom. And to do this, one must understand how unwise humanity often is. There are five areas where our "unwisdom" often keeps us from understanding the purpose of philosophy. The first of humanities issues with understanding the purpose of philosophy is that we don't ask the big questions. Questions like "Does God exist?" or "Is this right?" When people do think of them it is a passing thought that rarely takes much time at all. People often believe these questions to be irrelevant. Philosophers ask these questions all the time. They break down difficult questions into smaller pieces to come up with conceivable and logical
