The information through any media holds importance as it affects the today’s society and individuals in different ways. It shapes the view and the thinking of people. We can say that the concentration of media in Canada is doing harm than good in the society, as it is tapering the view of the people on different issues. Media concentration is also resulting in more unemployment and job loss. For the past few years, the media concentration has been a growing concern globally especially it has become a serious concern for Canadians. Thinking of concentration of media ownership, it is the process in which fewer individuals or organizations control the majority of shares of mass media. This process of concentration of media ownership is also called media consolidation. The information we see and hear is shown on the TV, which has different sources and channels like CBC, CNN or BBC. These sources make people believe that the information they are displaying is correct, and it can never be wrong, but the fact is that media shapes the attitude and opinion of the people (Morreale, 2011). People think that these sources of information keep them up to date on the current issue, but the fact is that they show us the content through which they can achieve higher ratings, which pleases sponsors of the advertisements and as a result media companies earn revenue by selling ads (Edge,2013), This shows that media companies focus at what sells rather than what is important ignoring the real news(Morreale,2011). Although foreign companies would have the direct investment in the media and opening new media outlets as a source of information, that it will be no difference than it is now, as they would be having the majority of market shares so they would work in the same way as local companies do for profit motives. Secondly, the news on media can be politically biased. Foreign media means American dominance, it will be a threat to Canadian culture and the local industry (Skinner, 2005). However, on other hand people would argue that giving relaxation to foreign companies to work can increase the opportunities and there would be new content due to more sources of information as well as this will also encourage the competition among the media companies (blidook, 2009). However, I would argue that in the long term the solution for concentrated media ownership in Canada would be to allow foreign companies in Canada to open their media outlets as this will not only benefit government with more taxes but also it provide people with new content as well as people would be to develop views on different issue etc. At the same time government should make some regulation to protect the local industry as well, so that people can enjoy their cultural product as
