Before, when doctor’s offices and hospitals were using paper things would get lost or stolen. Over time offices and hospitals started transferring their paper documents on to a computer to narrow down too much paper work. Although there were some complications in regards to putting everything on the computer. Some paper work was either not put on the computer or lost in the confusion. Now days the only time when hospital uses paper is when the computers are down. In this paper, I will show you the world of healthcare all the way from history to future telesurgery. The uses of computers in healthcare include education, diagnostic testing, and medical research.
The history of healthcare has changed in the last fifty years. In the 1950’s hospitals and doctors started to put accounting functions on the computer to regulate bills. Ten years later health care institutes started to put their patient information on the computers. At the end of the 1960’s healthcare computer now include who the patient is and what is their diagnosis along with the care plan. As the years go by the healthcare system adds communications that allows other hospitals to review the patients’ records. In 2013 doctors and nurses can use a portable computer device that allow you to input data for the patient and does not require cords.
Input is something that allows data to be put in to the computer to view or send by email. The medical field uses different kind of input devices to ensure the best patient care. This means that information is inputted in to the computer by an input device. An x-ray sends individual particles through the body to be able to take a picture. This picture is then recorded on a computer or film to view. The x-ray uses a computer program t...

Computers have totally proliferated the world of medicine. They are used to monitor vital signs, to operate artificial hearts and to compile and store medical histories. Though not directly related to our well being, the last use is of utmost importance. Today, the use of medical databases and computer...
In the modern era, the use of computer technology is very important. Back in the day people only used handwriting on the pieces of paper to save all documents, either in general documents or medical records. Now this medical field is using a computer to kept all medical records or other personnel info. Patient's records may be maintained on databases, so that quick searches can be made. But, even if the computer is very important, the facility must remain always in control all the information they store in a computer. This is because to avoid individuals who do not have a right to the patient's information.
Paper based health record was considered as gold standard during the early period because it was the main source of patient’s health information, was easy to use and it requires just minimal skill. The patient health records were kept by their providers attached to the bed for the easy access of the documents for patient care. The paper records can be lost during storage affecting patient care, duplication of tests making it more expensive care, doubtful as any person can make an entry without signing the paper and most often it is hard to read. So with the growth of advancement in medicine and technology, paper based health record cannot handle which led to the implementation of electronic health record (EHR), which is in digital format, accessible at any time, convenient, accurate and complete information, reliable, improves productivity as well as reduce health care cost of the patient. It also provides better clinical decision making thus providing better outcomes in patient health, which is the goal of the

In the past several years the healthcare system has experienced new changes in its structure and technology. The macro trends in healthcare are healthcare reform and the regulations of technology in healthcare that the government has put in place. Healthcare systems in the past have had some real complications both in the provided care and computer technology
ABSTRACT Technology affects society in every aspect in today’s world. There is not one single industry that has not been affected by technology, but no other industry is more affected than the field of medicine and healthcare. Modern technology has changed the structure and organization of the medical field. With rising health care cost the amount of uninsured people keeps rising higher and higher. With new technology the prices will only continue to rise. There are currently approximately 46 million people without health care coverage and that number continues to climb with rising health care cost. Employers are either no longer able to pay for employee insurance because of the 54 percent cost increase, or they are having to change policies
Over the last several years, electronic medical records are becoming more prominent in health care facilities, replacing traditional written records. As many electronics are becoming more prevalent with the invention of numerous smartphones and tablet devices, it seems that making medical records available electronically would be appropriate for the evolving times. Even though they have been in use to some extent for many years, the “Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health section of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has brought paperless documentation into the spotlight” (Eisenberg, 2010, p. 8). The systems of electronic medical records mainly consist of clinical note taking, prescription and medication documentation,
Our clinical knowledge is expanding. The researcher has first proposed the concept of electronic health record (EHR) to gather and analyze every clinical outcome. By late 1990s computer-based patient record (CPR) replaced with the term EHR (Wager et al., 2009). The process of implementing EHR occurs over a number of years. An electronic record of health-related information on individual conforms interoperability standards can create, manage and consult with the authorized health professionals (Wager et al., 2009). This information technology system electronically gather and store patient data, and supply that information as needed to the healthcare professionals, as well as a caregiver can also access, edit or input new information; this system function as a decision support tools to the health professionals. Every healthcare organization is increasingly aware of the importance of adopting EHR to improve the patient satisfaction, safety, and lowering the medical costs.
The advantages of using technology in healthcare are far too many to enumerate. As we become more and more dependent on intelligent machines in the medical field, computation technology, specifically, will have a vital role to play in the coming years. They simplify the design process of medical equipment (like prosthetics, stents, pacemakers, etc.), help simulate the effects of a particular device or drug on the human body, consolidate & manage patient records in a central database, etc. Computers are also living up to the challenge of fulfilling out ever-increasing demands of precision and efficiency.
Computers are also used to analyze images taken before surgery. Dr. Ninian Peckitt uses software to analyze a CAT scan images in order to understand his patient’s skull. The program in the computer actually directions for making full size replicas of patients heads.
Medical tools in the modern day are almost all made with small, programmed computers inside. “Medical imaging is a vast field that deals with the techniques to create images of the human body. Many of the modern methods of scanning and imaging are largely based on computer technology” ("Importance of Computers in Medicine."). We have been able to apply many of the advanced medical imaging techniques, over the years, thanks to developments in computer science. Magnetic quality imaging uses computer software. To obtain high-resolution images, doctors ...
From state and federal levels, the healthcare industry has come a very long way, experiencing changes along the way. The development of advanced technology that has enhanced the quality of healthcare delivery systems will help all patients to be able to benefit. Doctors are able to access patient records at a faster rate and respond to their patients in a much more timely fashion. E-mail, electronic transfer of records and telemedicine will give all patients and physicians the tools needed to be more efficient, deliver quality care and deliver quality telecommunication at a faster pace than before.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been shown to be increasingly important in the education or training and professional practice of healthcare. This paper discusses the impacts of using ICT in Healthcare and its administration. Health Information technology has availed better access to information, improved communication amongst physicians, clinicians, pharmacists and other healthcare workers facilitating continuing professional development for healthcare professionals, patients and the community as a whole. This paper takes a look at the roles, benefits of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in healthcare services and goes on to outline the ICT proceeds/equipment used in the health sector such as the
For my I-Search topic I chose to research health related issues due to increased computer usage both in the work and home settings. Computer technology is becoming commonplace in the work field. As a teacher, I use the computer to present topics to my students, enter grades, send email to co-workers and parents, and to post homework assignments on the Internet. Ten years ago, teachers and other professionals used computers on a limited basis. I became interested in the side effects caused by prolonged usage of computers since several family members complain of wrist soreness as well as eyestrain due to the effects of monitor radiation.
An important field computers impacted on is the medical field. Hospitals are run by computers. Most computers in the hospital are used to keep information of patients and their medical records. "Computers are being used increasingly by doctors to scan databases containing accounts of past cases to see which treatments work best" (Bettelheim, par.
