There are multiple different ways people can be intelligent, but here are three. One way people can be intelligent is by having a logical-mathematical mind. Another way people can be intelligent is by having a intrapersonal mind. And a third way people can be intelligent is by having a naturalist mind. By people having different minds, it adds to how everyone is unique. In the story "Blue numbers and Red words", Danniel Tammet seems to have more of a logical-mathematical mind. It seems so because of how he is able to take any quantity of number and solve them in any type of equation. Having a logical-mathematical mind doesn't always consist of quantifying things, and/or making hypotheses and proving them. According to page 402, it states,"...this talent is so common to several other savants (sometimes referred to as "lightning calculators")". I'm kind …show more content…
This is because he is highly aware that before he had his surgery, he stated that he was mindless and dumb. Interpersonal minds have a large understanding of themselves and what they want. According to the story on page 370, it states,"I'd hidden the picture of the old Charlie Gordon from myself because now I was intelligent it was something that had to be pushed out of my mind." I'm basically the exact opposite of this, meaning I never know what I want most of the time. According to the "Human brain", the author has somewhat of a naturalist mind. This is because they know a lot about the brain and have a large understanding of how it works. A naturalist basically has a large understanding of living things and reading nature. Based on page 345, it states," A constant stream of messages travels through the nerons in the spinal cord, at speeds of more than 150 mph." I seem to have somewhat of a naturalist mind because I have a large understanding of aquatic
People can achieve intelligent by learning or by following their passion in whatever they love. If someone loves fixing cars there is a chance he will become a mechanic, so he will be intelligent in that careers. That is how someone becomes intelligent because they learned everything they can about their profession in book or by what they learn on the streets. To become a intelligent person is important in society because that sets a standard for us and we try to learn everything we can to be the best in our jobs and careers, so we can be the best in our field.
Before the operation, he exhibited some clear strengths such as determination, a positive attitude, friendly with people and some weaknesses such as education and inability to understand the adult world. After the operation, he begun to change in numerous ways. Charlie started out as being not really intelligent. Being around with “smart” people made him want to change and became “intelligent” just like his “friends.” I think its all crazy. If you can get smart when your sleeping why do people go to school. That thing I don't think will work. I use to watch the late show and the late late show on TV all the time and it never made me smart (Keyes 118). This part of the book led Charlie’s flashbacks takes place of how he was raised or nurtured through his childhood, Of how he wanted to try to become smart. However Dr. Strauss believes that his sleep would help Charlie be able to learn. However in his nature, his disability cannot help him at all, doesn’t matter how much he tries to watch TV and tries to go to sleep, I wouldn’t allow him to learn anything at all. The nurture of this is having the doctor recommend Charlie to do this. His disability also not just affects him but his family as well. His disability kind of makes his sister miserable as well, jealous over how the parents focus on Charlie due to his disability, despite the successes the sister achieves in school. Thus Charlie’s nature towards others has a negative effect which is towards his sister. Charlie was raised by his parents but through a condition that would then follow him probably for the rest of his life as well as being mainly raised through this experiment, which possibly wouldn’t help him at all in the near
With his simple minded approach to life, he was able to live happily without problems or difficulties that we face in relationships today. Although he was never smart, Charlie was a good person before the surgery.
Before the operation Charlie was unaware of the way he was being treated or of how others viewed his disability throughout his whole life, but by the end of his progress reports he understands the way life is. The gift of intelligence was given to him, however this gift he was given was drawn away from him just as quickly. Many bad things occur to Charlie after the operation, but the war between his emotions and his mind stood above the rest of
He desperately wants to become smart so he can communicate and live just like everyone else does. Charlie wants this operation so he can be smart and prove to everyone he isn't like he used to be. " Gimpy hollers at me all the time when I do something wrong, but he really likes me because he's my friend. Boy, if I get smart, won't he be surprised." (p 5)
One interesting fact about Charlie Gordon is that he is determined and when he puts his mind to be smart he would do anything. In result of his determination, he gets an operation which makes it easier to learn and soak up all of the information around him up like a sponge. “Anyway, now I’m getting smarter every day” (Daniel Keyes, 67) this proves that he was getting smarter and that the operation was successful. The operation was a complete success and he ended up being as smart if not smarter than the doctors. Charlie learned several different languages and loads of intelligence on things such as writing and science. In my opinion Charlie gained a lot from the surgery but ended up losing all of it, but even after losing his intelligence he gained so much.
“As a human being, one has been endowed with just enough intelligence to be able to see clearly how utterly inadequate that intelligence is when confronted with that exists” (Albert Einstein) Everyone is intelligent in many ways. People can also learn in many, many ways. An example is how musicians are smart in music and write the music in many ways. There are many ways unexpected people are intelligent and here are three ways that people can be intelligent.
Before Charlie’s surgery, his coworkers took advantage of his low intelligence, which he realized on page ____, where it says “Everybody was laughing. Frank said, ‘I ain’t laughed so much since we sent him off for the newspaper that night at Muggsy’s and ditched him.’ … I didn’t know what to do or where to turn… I wanted to hide myself… Now I know what it means when they say ‘to pull a Charlie Gordon.’” He unfortunately did not realize that his “friends” were making fun of him due to the fact that they had taken advantage of his low intelligence and set up a weak cover for each prank or crack, making them seem like they were laughing with him in his perspective. He had judged them for what they seemed on the outside, which reiterates the theme. After his post-surgery regression, though, they stood up for him after thinking about their actions. This is shown on page ____, where it says “
This quote demonstrates how he lost a ton of old knowledge and is unable to write a full proper sentence. He had the surgery to become smarter instead it made his less smart and knowledgeable. Charlie made so much progress and he worked for dozens of hours working on becoming a better reader/writer and that all went down the
One of the many reasons Dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur should not have chosen Charlie Gordon is because he was still an outcast, even though the Doctors gave him the reality that he would not be. “They’ve Driven me out of the factory. Now I’m more alone than ever before. . . .” (Keyes, 199). When he got smarter they disliked him even more,
He was happy, optimistic, and very nice to others. He was thrilled to have the operation to make him smarter, so, in a progress report, he wrote, “Their (they’re) going to use me! I’m so excited I can hardly write.” This demonstrates how ecstatic Charlie was for his surgery, and how he was like this in many other aspects of his life. The surgery, however, had resulted in many changes in his life, including his emotional state. He often felt upset and became easily agitated. After the surgery, he says, “I can feel the darkness closing in. It’s hard to throw off thoughts of suicide.” (Keyes 302) The way he feels about his life and himself had changed drastically
He wanted to end up being used for the operation that could have advanced his intellectual progression through a further, more rapid process; in the end, the doctors did use him to test the operation, which has never been experimented on another human being before. Drs. Nemur and Strauss had the opportunity to change the world for Charlie Gordon; the end result was Charlie’s saddening intellectual regression and possible, potential demise. Charlie was obviously 100 percent human, but equivalent to lesser than human. He was treated as a disruption and obstacle in the way at work and was treated similarly to how lab mice were at the laboratory and the hospital room where the surgery was done. If the surgery had been permanently successful, society would benefit from Charlie’s improved, risen intelligence. Charlie Gordon was one of the millions of mentally impaired people living, and for once, felt success in his life. Both intellectually and socially; unfortunately, as a result, his confidence and intellectual success
Intelligence by definition is “the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills” (Oxford Dictionary, 2014). However, many psychologists argue that there is no standard definition of ‘intelligence’, and there have been many different theories over time as psychologists try to find better ways to define this concept (Boundless 2013). While some believe in a single, general intelligence, others believe that intelligence involves multiple abilities and skills. Another largely debated concept is whether intelligence is genetically determined and fixed, or whether is it open to change, through learning and environmental influence. This is commonly known as the nature vs. nurture debate.
I believe that being intelligent is becoming very clever at a task. Depending on the society you grew up in or involve in currently can have an influence on how you view being intelligent is. Where I come from
Individual differences play an important role and research demonstrates that individuals have many different types of intelligence which cannot be captured by traditional psychometric tests. Other factors which can influence the measurement of intelligence is a person’s genes and their environment.
