America's National Anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner”, and “America the Beautiful” are two songs that talk about America and what it means to its citizens but, each song has a different message, one is very heroic and shows how powerful America is and the other shows America’s true beauty and its nature. The “National Anthem” is considered to be very militaristic because it talks about the war that America thought it’ll lose but, they find the flag still waving in the sky. In contrast, “America the beautiful” shows us a picture of America’s beautiful landscape and its peaceful nature. Many people argue that “The Star Spangled Banner” should replaced with “America the beautiful”. Some people want to hear about America's “spacious skies” and others want to hear about the “bombs bursting in the air”. …show more content…
The National Anthem is “The Star Spangled Banner” which has a rich history inspired by the perseverance of the American spirit and the American flag.
The US victory at the Battle of Baltimore, during the War of 1812, was a victory that America is very proud of and especially proud of its soldiers that fought for their beloved land. The National Anthem portrays America being in war and fights because it mentions bombs, the blood shed of soldiers, and America’s victory. The National Anthem says, “...And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there...” In this line it say that even during the war while the bombs were bursting in the air the enormous American flag was still seen. The “Star Spangled Banner” portrays how proud Americans are after seeing the flag flying over Fort McHenry in Baltimore after a night if intense siege and bombardment by the British during the War of 1812. Seeing the flag was significant, for it meant that the fort survived the night without surrendering or being overrun. America still remembers and celebrates that
victory. The song, “America the Beautiful”, talks about America’s beauty by describing its beautiful and peaceful nature. The song quotes, “O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties, Above the fruited plain…” The song shows us what America is and not what it did. It gives us hope and a sense of freedom. When one thinks about nature, spacious skies, and green plains and valleys, what will come to mind is this peaceful country that’s free. The song says, “A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness.” It’s saying that America is its nature and its nature provides its people with a sense of freedom and relaxation. America's beautiful nature and it scenery will never change. Its natural beauty, such as its Grand Canyon, it's beautiful prairie, its mountains, and its rivers and lakes, are what makes America America. A song about America’s nature and a song about America in battle are two very different song that portray America in different ways. When people hear a country's National Anthem they don’t want to hear about its wars and battles. People would like to hear about what that country is and what makes it beautiful. Changing our National Anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner”, to “America the Beautiful” wouldn’t be a bad idea. “The Star Spangled Banner” talks about an important event in history that Americans will not forget, but it shouldn’t be a National Anthem. I think a National Anthem should be song that provides its citizens with an image of what their country is, they don’t want to hear only about what their country did in wars. Wars and battles are history and we want to be reminded that our country is beautiful for natural beauty.
“Land of the free and the home of the brave.” This line has represented the United States for decades. Many people hail “The Star Spangled Banner” as the greatest piece of American music. The audiences of America’s national anthem seem, instinctively, eager to express their respect by embracing the notion to remove their hats and stand up. What exceptional difference allows it to prevail over the masterpieces of prominent composers like Mozart and Beethoven? The answer is fairly simple. “The Star Spangled Banner” symbolizes America’s perseverance, its set of moral laws and ethics, and its history that constitutes what America truly means.
In "I, Too," Langston Hughes is obviously in conversation with the earlier poem, Walt Whitman 's "I Hear America Singing." Both poems explore the idea of American identity -- who and what is an American? What characterizes the people of this nation? The two poets, however, reach somewhat different conclusions in response to these questions.

What is the American flag and what does it represent? For many Americans the flag represents freedom, pride, and justice. Our flag stands for freedom because of the many lives that had to be lost throughout history for us to be the nation we are today. The American flag stands for pride because of the many American soldiers men and women who lost their lives for us. Lastly, our flag stands for justice because in the United States no matter what crime we do we have the right to a fair trial.
There have been the fights for our freedom and fights against each other. Through all of the battles, the American flag stood strong and proud. There have been many sacrificed deaths for our freedom. The flag stands for every person that ever gave up their life for the good of our country. The people that were at the front line standing proud for our nation are the real heros. That is what the flag really stands for. The everyday citizens that continue to fight while we continue our normal lives. Many people may not think of the American flag as much but it stands for so much more than just what our eyes can
