Having the confidence and bravery to stand up for what is right and just. All of these are examples of what grit truly is. Many americans have gone through bad situations thus challenging whether or not they have grit, and Britney Spears and Marilyn Monroe both came from broken families and both have had struggles with mental illness; however, they both have overcome their struggles and became the most iconic transcending women in Hollywood due to their grit.

Britney Spears is an American singer,dancer and actress she is most famous for her tracks “Baby One More Time” and “Oops I Did It Again”. She is also famous for starring in the movie “Crossroads” which was a box-office success with over $61.1 million worldwide in three months. Britney Spears also had a troubled child like Marilyn Monroe, Spears's father Jamie Spears was very violent at home. Spear’s uncle often recalled times when her father was violent. “ Her uncle Willie Spears - who is Jamie's brother - revealed in Steve Dennis' new book 'Britney: Inside the Dream': "I was at the house and Jamie walked in drunk and called Lynne a bad name. She was in the kitchen drinking water and he grabbed the glass, walked into the lounge and just hurled it. It was rough, but the sad thing is that it became normal life." Children of alcoholics are said to have low self esteem. Instead of giving in to that low self esteem and doubt that life isn’t going to get any better, Britney Spear’s worked and pushed herself toward her goal of being a singer so that she could become famous and get out of that way of life and prosper.
