After being let down by yet another person, Jermaine decides to focus on himself and become one within himself. He has come to terms that the only way to stay rid of disappointment is to stop relying on others. Every amazing action in life has needed confidence in order to kick start it, you physically can’t get what you want in life if you never have the confidence to go out and get it. In KOD, J. Cole makes the statement, “If practice makes perfect, I’m practices baby, My life is too crazy no actor can play me” (J. Cole). He is confident in who he is as a person and he is very aware in his place in the world, which is obviously high up. If he had earned his fame and fortune through another person, he would not be bragging about being the best that there is essentially, but since he has earned it from relying on himself and putting forth to work all on his own, he feels like he has received the right to show off. J. Cole isn’t even close to being the only confident person on the worth, even men like Emerson show confidence in themselves and their work. He states in Self-Reliance, “What I must do is all that concerns me, not what the people think” (Emerson). He shows confidence in saying that because he doesn’t care about people’s opinions on him or any other subject, if they go against his thinkings. In order to separate yourself from others so far to the point that you are labeled a non-conformist, you must be confident in who you are as a person in order to go against society, and Emerson definitely shows it. Confidence allows for new experiences and makes branching out and succeeding in life a lot simpler than if you don’t have it.
