The movie Moana is very different from Disney’s other princess movies, and to me has a deeper meaning than what most people see. Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) is the daughter of Chief Tui (Temuera Morrison) who lives on the Hawaiian island of Montunui. On the island of Montunui the islanders have strict guidelines to not travel the ocean past the reef. Because of these rules the fishermen know they can not go beyond the reef, but when all of the fish begin to disappear from the inside of the reef the villagers become scared and confused. The only way to save the island and the crops is for Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) to fulfill her purpose by finding Maui and restoring the heart of Te Fiti. The movie Moana shows us that our true purpose goes deeper …show more content…
On her deathbed, Gramma Tala (Rachel House) gives Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) the heart of Te Fiti and tells her to find Maui (Dwayne Johnson) and say, "I am Moana of Motunui. You will board my boat and restore the heart to Te Fiti." She then sails across the ocean to find Maui (Dwayne Johnson) just as her Gramma Tala (Rachel House) had said. When she gets to Maui (Dwayne Johnson), he tries to take the boat and leave her, but the ocean does not allow him to do that. Every time he tried to throw Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) off the boat the ocean placed her right back on. After about the third time, Maui (Dwayne Johnson) takes the heart from her and throws it as for as he could. Only to find that it would be thrown right back at his face by the ocean. Maui (Dwayne Johnson) then says that's it and tries to jump off, but again the ocean places him right back on the boat. Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) then said that, “the ocean chose her for a reason” and that she is going to make sure she returns the heart by whatever means necessary. This scene, in my opinion, has a meaning beneath what most people think. When Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) was thrown off the boat she begins to swim and as she is doing that, the ocean places her on the boat. Maui (Dwayne Johnson) then says that he did not see that coming. In this scene as in many other parts of the movie I see the ocean playing the role of God. No matter where we are placed in …show more content…
As they try to get passed, they are not successful, and Maui’s (Dwayne Johnson) hook is nearly destroyed. After that, they get angry with each other and begin to argue. Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) says to Maui (Dwayne Johnson) “we are only here because you stole the heart in the first place”, and he responded with “No, we are here because the ocean told you you were special and you believed it.” She tells Maui that the ocean chose her and he then told her that the ocean chose wrong. Maui (Dwayne Johnson) then chooses to leaves and Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) begins to doubt herself to extreme measures. Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) gave the heart back to the ocean and told it to choose someone else. As Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) goes through tough times she begins to doubt her calling and purpose. After she gave the heart back her grandmother appeared in ghost form to talk to her. Telling her that no matter what she decided to do she would be with her. In this scene we see where Maui (Dwayne Johnson) who can be seen as an unbeliever begins to tear down the faith that Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) has. Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) was so torn apart that for a brief moment she thought was not good enough for her calling and told the ocean to find someone new. Just like in life, sometimes we think we may be wrong place because we begin to struggle, but we have to
Moana shows non-conformity in the start of the film when her father is telling her that she will become the chief of the island of Motunui. However, Moana ignores him and goes out sailing past the reef against her father's orders. Moana realized that there's more to her life than staying on the island and that she had sailing in her blood and wasn’t about to let her father stand in her way. She wasn't about to let her life be controlled by
Maui, the deuteragonist, is a heroic demigod, who has supernatural abilities with the help of his magical fish hook performed multiple feats of greatness in his childhood. He believes that he is great at everything and often feels as though humans are beneath him and that he is a god amongst men. Maui displays symptoms of the disorder through his treatment of Moana during their journey together, his abandonment issues, and his fear of social situations.

Paika has now been accepted as the next “Whale Rider”. She has proven that she has what it takes to complete the ritual. She now has the support of her whole family, including her grandpa. At the end of the movie she does the ritual in front of the entire community, while the men of the village push a boat into the ocean. She completes the ritual when they get to the boat and are on the ocean.
The film revolves around the character Moana who at a young age discovers a love and special connection with the ocean. However, Moana’s father, Chief Tui, forbids Moana from going out on the ocean because he believes it to be too dangerous. Instead Chief Tui attempts at preparing Moana to be the next island leader. Moana grows concerned as their island, Motunui, is dying, she believes it has to do with the heart of Te Fiti.

Eddie tried convincing his captain to let him paddle on his surfboard (which was brought with him on the voyage) 12 miles to Lanai in an attempt to save his crew members. Hours later, the Hokule’a and the rest of the crew was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard, but Aikau was still missing at sea. With Eddie missing at sea, it leads to a search that became the largest air-sea search in Hawaiian history. Despite great search efforts, Eddie was never seen again. It was a tremendous loss for the surf community, but it was an even bigger loss for Hawaiʻi and the United States.

After many interviews with Bethany’s family and reviewing her autobiography, the film began to come together for Sean. The setting is Kauai, Hawaii, where the film replays what happened to Hamilton that day. It was early one Halloween morning when Bethany went for a morning surf. As she glided against the water, a tiger shark appeared and attacked her, tearing her arm out of its socket. That day she unfortunately lost over half the blood in her body, but she did not allow this misfortune to stop her. Indeed her steps towards recovery were phenomenal. One may suggest that Bethany truly has salt water flowing through her veins. How else can one explain the passion that ignites her to surf? Even the detachment of her arm could not separate her from the waves. Throughout the film, she demonstrated how we should never give up on our dreams.
