Awesome’s idea to create life led to the creation of Hades and the Lake of Fire, the Son’s promises, and Awesome’s writing two books, all before He laid the foundations of the world. The first book, The Book of Life, contains the name of every single sentient being to whom Awesome gave the gift of life, along with their deeds. Considering what we know factually about world population estimates since recorded history, that’s at least a hundred billion names assuming that one hundred billion persons have received life either by being created or born. The second book Awesome wrote, The Lamb’s Book of Life, contains only the names of those that accept The Word’s life, death, and separation from Awesome as a substitute for their own. The Word
Foreboding and dreadful describe the tone of “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”. Edwards makes the tone very clear by saying “The God that holds you over the pit of Hell, much as one holds a spider or some loathsome insect over the fire” (154). He tries to convey the wrath of god that will come upon them if they do not devoted themselves to Christ by saying “Thus all you that never passed under a great change of heart, by the mighty power of the Spirit of God upon souls, all you that were never born again, and made new creatures, and raised from being dead in sin, to a state of new, and before altogether unexperienced light and life, are in the hands of an angry God.” (154).
One does need a full knowledge of the slave trade and slavery to know that those coming from the continent of Africa and those born into slavery suffered various forms of psychological rewiring, some positive but most negatively. Yet, it is scarcely asked what the mental state of the White population was. There is this generalized notion of acceptance, however, there must have been ‘something' felt by this ethnicity, or at least by some. Creation texts and most early pieces of literature all share many of the same themes, mythology, and to an extent, the same characters. In the days that early texts like The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Bible, and Popol Vuh, epistemology was of high interest to many philosophers and writers. To answer the questions of “How did we get here,” “Why are we here,” “What do we do here,” and other ontological ponderings, texts like these were written to give some reason. One consistent theme from early literature and creation texts is that early people had the tragic flaw of a thirst for knowledge and a lack of willpower, which is shown in The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Bible, and Popol Vuh.
In the “Abenaki Creation Story and the Importance of Dreaming” myth it is described that the life of the natural world was created by a supreme image, the greatest spirit, that created the world by his sparkles of power and his imagination. During the story the Great Spirit was having a conflict deciding what living beings could he create because he wanted all to be perfect, he was a perfectionist, but while he was dreaming with strange things like animals and people, that was an unbelievable dream for him, he thought that it could not be possible because all seems imperfect and out of an order. But for his surprise when he awakened all his dream was true, and there was no other thing than accepting what happened and then he realized that it
Roman and Greek mythology are filled with multiple interpretations of how the creator, be it the gods or nature, contributed to the birth of the world. These stories draw the backgrounds of the gods and goddesses that govern much of classical mythology. Ovid’s Metamorphoses and Hesiod’s Theogony are two pieces of work that account for how our universe came to be. A comparison of Theogony with Metamorphoses reveals that Hesiod’s creation story portrays the deities as omnipresent, powerful role whose actions triggered the beginning of the universe whereas in Metamorphoses, the deities do not play a significant role; rather the humans are center of the creation. The similarities and differences are evident in the construction of the universe, ages of man, and the creation of men and women on earth.
Novels may contain more details or different information than a film contains. This could be because of the ratings a movie could receive depending on what they involve. Because of this, there could be deleted scenes or less detail about certain events. The Catching Fire film and novel have many important similarities and differences. By comparing and contrasting the Hunger Games novel and film, one can see that the film was effective in conveying some themes, and was not effective in conveying others.
After viewing the “Bible Stories for Kids! Story of Creation” episode, there were several key differences to be found between this children’s show and the actual Genesis story from the Bible. Despite these differences, the episode did display a few similarities from the original Genesis story as well. Based off of the articles by Trible and Hassan, one may critique the characterization of this episode’s versions of Adam and Eve. Trible and Hassan most definitely have views of Adam and Even that differ from those portrayed in this show. While this may just be a representation of Genesis meant for children, it is still important to point out the differences it has from the original creation story.
James Baldwin was an influential activist in the Civil Rights Movement and also became know as one of the most prominent African American intellectuals of twenty centuries. Between Martin Luther King Jr non-violent views on integration and Malcom X radical views, there in middle lies James Baldwin ideals a mix of the two. In his book The Fire Next Time, James Baldwin analyses the position of blacks in America a century after the Emancipation Proclamation which supposedly gave blacks their freedom. He uses the essay “My Dungeon Shook” as a plea to his nephew the importance of acceptance and integration. Around 700 BC, the poet Hesiod’s Theogony wrote the first cosmogony, or origin story, of Greek mythology. The poet tells the story of the universe’s journey from nothingness to being, and details a family tree of gods and goddesses who evolved from Chaos and descended from Earth, Sea, Sky and the Underworld.
John Cariani and Roald Dahl are two writers with great imagination. Cariani’s Her Heart is a play about a man who finds a girl in his yard waiting for the Northern Lights mourn the loss of her husband. He tries to convince her to stay and he falls in love with the widow. Dahl’s Lamb to the Slaughter is a story about a wife who waited for her husband to come home just to murder him with a frozen leg of a lamb. She covered up the crime by creating a believable alibi for herself. A close examination of Glory, the protagonist from Her Heart, and Mary Maloney, the protagonist from Lamb to the Slaughter reactions to their husbands deaths demonstrates the vast differences and similarities within the two characters.
Roald Dahl’s version of Lamb to the Slaughter, greatly presents and interprets the events that take place in the original story. This film perfectly displays the drastic change between a dedicated, loving housewife, to a mischievous murderer. At the beginning of the film, Susan George perfectly plays the role of the “perfect wife,” as she caresses her husband Patrick (played by Michael Byrne), and jumps up at any opportunity to comfort him. However, Mary’s behavior is chilling and real as the movie progresses; the movie ends with her laughing in a frightening manner upon realization that she has gotten away with her husband’s murder. In both stories, the two wives, Mary and Mrs. Foster share very similar characteristics. In the Beginning of “Lamb to the Slaughter” Mary, Patrick’s wife, gave off strange characteristics. “She loved to luxuriate in the presence of this man”. (87) It is very awkward that a wife would love to “luxuriate” being with her husband. She just quietly sat and watched her husband drink when he arrived home from work. How is this luxuriating?
