Giving and receiving are notable applications in our lives. Both can be a selfless or selfish act depending on the intentions of the individual. Everyone has been on each side of the coin, however, there is something bigger in giving. It is better to give than receive. Giving provides success, respect, and, hope to an individual.

There are numerous methods to have success and giving is one of them. The world can be unpropitious and that can bring the best or worse out of us. I have had moments where selfishness transpired. There have been times where I purposely gave with an intent to receive. These moments you could say were for personal gain, but I could easily say they were for survival, it's all about perspective. Sometimes people dream because it is something to look forward to and it can camouflage reality. Life can be difficult and painful at times and giving can provide someone the push to get through. It is important to give because hope can help those who need to overcome adversities in life. Giving is on a large spectrum. Giving can be appreciation, it can give a person the push to do more. Giving can be love and love can give someone hope that someone cares about them. In the "Art of Being a Neighbor" the author discusses the American Dream and how one can obtain it. When the dream did not look achievable she realized she did not have to do it on her own, the author says, "we can all get by together" (Birch Para. 11). It is so hopeful to know you do not have to figure this formula of life alone. That's the beauty of giving, we are all in this race and we are all hoping to finish but no one ever said we can't work together. That is why it is important to give because hope helps us move
