Have you ever wondered why you and your friends are many differences but you still get along so well? A common theme found in “Human Family” and in “Seedfolks” is everyone is different but there are more similarities than differences which draw us together. These similarities draw us together and make us friend. In Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman, people come from different places, talk different languages, have different cultures, and grow different plants. These people are so different but by the end of the story the characters learn about each other and discover how they are not so different from each other. As a result, they treat each other as family. In the poem “Human Family” by Maya Angelou, it shows us how we have different reactions, different personalities, and different skin tones but the similarities keep us together. In the book Seedfolks, everyone in the story comes from different backgrounds but somehow they feel as a part of the garden and feel like they are in a family. On page 61 to 62, it says that, “People watched him and seemed to be relieved when he left the garden. Then he began spending more time there. We found out that he had a stutter. Then he had two sisters, that he liked the cats that roamed through the garden, and that he worked very well with his hands. Soon all the mothers were trying to feed him.” In this section from the book, Royce is a large looking man who looks very dangerous and because of this everyone was scared of him.
