While examining and comparing the doctrines and beliefs of both Christianity and Islam, it is important to compare each other’s viewpoint on the gospel, sin, and salvation in order to clearly see the major differences between the two religions. For Christians, salvation is centered on Jesus and his mission, crucifixion, and resurrection. We are told in the Bible that in 2 Timothy 2:10, “Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.” In other words, the Bible teaches us that Christ is the Son of God and our sinless Redeemer who died and rose again for our sins so that we may have everlasting life with God in Heaven one day. Muslims are told that Allah does not love “those who do wrong, and that each person must earn his or her own salvation. One must love Allah in order for Allah to love that person” (Caner). In Christianity, we are told in the scriptures that God loved his people first and that being the loving God that He is, He sent his Son to die for our sins (which can be seen in Romans 5:8 and 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4). Due to the Islamic belief that one must earn their own salvation, this means that there is no security of salvation. Muslims must pray, fast, worship, give their money, and make a pilgrimage to Mecca. Although doing good works can give a Muslim hope to be righteous enough for Heaven, they are not guaranteed and therefore do not know until the Day of Judgment, while for Christians our judgment came on the cross when Jesus died so that we may have salvation through his selfless love for His people (He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God, John 1: 10-12”). It can be seen that there is a significant gap between the personal qualities of God in the two religions. In
