In this essay I will be talking about many different adaptations in the Mayan, Aztec and Inca civilization. The Mayan civilization was known for their writing system and for their sacred calendars. This civilization lasted for about 3,500 years. The next civilization was the and they were known for their religions because it was so strict. The Inca empire was known for being the largest empire. But, was sadly conquered by the spanish explorers. Now let's move onto the adaptations of these civilizations. The Mayan civilization had many adaptations and in this paragraph I will be telling you a few of their different adaptations. One of the adaptations they did was called the slash and burn. The first step to doing this was clearing out the land. They did this by cutting and burning plants and trees. This technique “helped them to grow more food without having to increase the amount of land they used” (pg.168). Then as the population increased “the Mayans had trouble raising enough food to feed everyone.” (pg.268.So the Mayans needed more land. First, is the chinampas they basically were floating gardens that were “often filled with people traveling to and from the capital” (pg.304). Next there was the causeways.The causeways “linked the island to the mainland.” (pg.275) The largest ones stretched about 5 miles long and were 25-30 feet wide. The next adaptian the Aztecs had was called a dike. This was very important because without this water would just flood from the sea.It “could be raised up to let boats through or to protect the city in enemy attack” (pg.275). This sentence shows that the dike is also important to the Aztecs not only because it prevents floods but it also protects them from enemy attacks. Now we will be moving onto the Inca
