April twentieth, 1999 was just another Tuesday for many people. But for the students attending Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado it was the day that two of their classmates opened fire on them. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, seniors at Columbine High School, murdered twelve students and one teacher and injured twenty-four others. After executing their plan, the two committed suicide. These two teenagers conducted, “the deadliest high school shooting in US history.” Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold began keeping a journal a year prior to the shootings. Harris and Klebold wrote more of how they would execute their plan instead of reasons why. His family moved to Littleton, Colorado in the summer of 1993. Harris reportedly wanted to join the United States Marine Corps but his application was rejected due to him being on fluvoxamine, an SSRI antidepressant. It has been said that the psychiatric medication may have worsened his aggression. In 2009, Professor Aubrey Immelman wrote that his behavior patterns were consistent with , “malignant narcissism… pathological narcissistic personality disorder with borderline and antisocial features, along with some paranoid traits, and unconstrained aggression.” Though her assessment of Harris could never be a direct psychiatric diagnosis without him being alive. Harris started keeping a journal a year before the massacre. In one of his last entries, Harris wrote, “I hate you people for leaving me out of so many fun things. And no don't… say, ‘Well that's your fault,’ because it isn't, you people had my phone number, and I asked and all, but no. No no no don't let the weird-looking Eric KID come along.” Harris had created a private website on America Online initially to host levels for the game Doom but the webpage turned into something more. The website became more of a blog about how Harris felt towards parents, school, and friends. They broke into a parked van and stole tools and computers. The boys were sentenced to community service and psychiatric treatment. Harris had to attend an anger-management course. The boys were released from the program early on account of good behavior.
