Judging people on their looks or surroundings could hurt someone more than you think it would.Victoria Bond and T. R. Simon’s novel, Zora And Me Can relate to Orlando Belo’s poem, Don’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover because they both have the same theme of Don’t Judge. Both of these authors really show why not to judge, however there are some major differences between this poem and novel. Bond and Simon show this theme as being the ones judging, while Orlando makes the reader be the one who has been judged. Also, Belo shows his point through lots of figurative language in his poem while the girls don’t use as much literary devices in their novel, but instead use strong words and language.
Judging people on their looks or surroundings is unfair to the victim, and both Belo and The Girls prove this point in their literature. For example, in Belo’s Poem, he shows reasons why not to judge and what will happen if you do judge, while he also says, “My appearance is a shield of defense”stanza:3, which shows that he is stronger now than before. The predators are found in Zora and Me, In which a group of 3 friends spread the word that the man living alone, quiet, and suspicious by a lake is a gator-man. One thing that these friends say is, “It was Mr. Pendir who killed him!” which shows them blaming him for no reason. This pushes the whole town to think he is a gator and he ends up hurt and lonely.
